Chapter 15: The Superior Female Lead Pampers Her Husband Without Limit 15
Xana looked at her daughter-in-law with growing satisfaction.
It was just like the old saying: the more a mother-in-law looks at her daughter-in-law, the more she likes her.
Since Jewel could treat her husband as her equal, that meant Xavi truly mattered to her. That way, Xavi could live well in the Jewel household.
"That's good," Xana said, her face full of joy. She wasn't the type to fuss over little things when her son came back home. On top of that, her son and daughter-in-law clearly loved each other, and that alone made her happy.
"Mother, I'll go call them."
Xavia cheerfully ran toward the kitchen.
She liked her new sister-in-law more and more. Earlier, she had taken the chance to tell her mother about how Jewel had confessed her feelings for Xavi. Once Xana heard that, she was truly happy and immediately accepted Jewel as part of the family.
Jewel had also helped the Xavia family financially. That money she gave came just in time, lifting a huge burden and giving them some breathing room. Xavia was genuinely grateful.
Once Jewel and little Xavi returned, she planned to tell her mother everything.
At the dining table in the main room, Jewel started looking toward the door as soon as Xavia left, waiting eagerly for her husband to come in.
At home, Xavi always sat at the same table as his wife when they ate.
But now that they were back at his family's house, it felt strange going back to the old ways—eating by the stove, bending over as he served himself. He wasn't used to it anymore.
Still, he didn't dare complain. This wasn't their home, and he didn't want his family to know how much freedom he had in Jewel's house. He also feared his father might scold him for being disrespectful and not following tradition.
Xavi couldn't help but feel amazed at how well Jewel treated him. In just a few days, she had already spoiled him.
As he was thinking about this, he heard his sister's voice from the kitchen.
"Father, Xavi, come inside. Let's all eat together."
Zhang looked shocked.
"What did you say?"
He had spent his entire life bending over in the kitchen at the Xavia household, and never once had he sat at the main table.
Even though things had slowly changed over the years, and his wife had softened her attitude toward him, he never dared overstep his place.
After all, the distance from the stove in the kitchen to the chair in the main room felt as far as the ends of the earth. Many husbands worked their whole lives in their wives' homes without ever crossing that line. No man would ever dream of sitting at the main table.
"It was Jewel's idea," Xavia said brightly. "Father, looks like little Xavi is doing pretty well in the Jewel family, huh?"
She turned to wink at her brother. "Tell me, isn't Jewel just as sweet to you at home?"
Xavi blushed as he listened to his sister's teasing. He looked down, a little embarrassed, but couldn't hide his smile.
"Don't say things like that…"
But deep down, his heart was warm and full. He hadn't expected Jewel to be so well-liked by his family after such a short visit. It even seemed like his sister had accepted her.
And now, Jewel had helped him win a seat at the main table—just like when they were at home.
Home… where Jewel was… that was really his home now.
Xavia saw her brother looking all shy and happy, and she couldn't help teasing him more.
She grinned and whispered, "Just now, I pretended to scare her a bit and told her not to bully you. She said she really likes you—like, really really likes you!"
"I'm not talking to you!"
Xavi's face turned even redder. He quickly turned away and went inside to find his wife.
Jewel smiled as soon as she saw him. She stood up and pulled out the chair beside her like a true gentleman.
Xavi happily sat down. With Jewel by his side, he felt safe and at peace. Everything felt right.
Zhang also sat next to Xavia, feeling a little nervous. After all, it was the first time in his life sitting at the main table.
Once everyone was seated, Xana spoke up, "Jewel and Xavi came home today, so it's a rare chance for the whole family to be together. Let's enjoy this reunion meal." She then turned to Jewel and added kindly, "Eat as much as you like. Treat this as your own home."
"Thank you, Mother-in-law," Jewel replied politely.
Everyone began to eat.
Jewel first picked up a piece of fried egg and placed it in Xavi's bowl. "Xavi, try this."
In a farmer's home, making sure the guest had enough to eat was already a big deal. The best dish on the table today was the fried egg. Jewel made a mental note to buy more meat in the future to help Xavi eat better. He was too thin—she felt like the wind could blow him away. She needed to work hard to make more money and take care of her husband, make sure he was full, healthy, and strong.
Xavi was quietly sipping his thick rice porridge when a pair of chopsticks suddenly dropped a golden, fragrant piece of fried egg into his bowl. He looked up and saw Jewel casually pulling her hand back, as if it were nothing special.
She hadn't even tried to hide how much she spoiled him, even in front of his whole family.
In this world, women who doted on their husbands too openly were often looked down upon as being petty or lacking manners. Even if they truly loved their husbands, most kept it private—only showing it behind closed doors.
Whether a husband was truly loved or not was something only the couple knew. But Jewel didn't care about what people thought—she did what she wanted. How many women could really do that?
"Thank you, my wife," Xavi said.
He couldn't remember how many times he had felt grateful for marrying her. He must've done something really good in his past life to meet someone like her.
Even Zhang was amazed. In all his life, he had never seen a woman like this.
He could tell just by looking at his son's glowing, happy face—Jewel truly loved him.
The two newlyweds were clearly still in the sweet, loving phase. It was heartwarming to watch.
Xana and Xavia, having just chatted with Jewel earlier and now seeing how happy Xavi was, felt completely at ease with her.
Everything at the dinner table felt warm and peaceful. Jewel had finally completed her formal visit home after marriage.

Meanwhile, back at the He household—
As soon as He entered the house, he noticed the rich aroma of food filling the air, just like it used to before his wife fell ill.
There was thick rice porridge, delicious fried eggs, and stir-fried eggplants…
He rushed to the kitchen, eager to eat, only to find it empty—no sign of Zhang or Xavi eating or cooking as usual. Only a big pot of hot porridge and some side dishes were left steaming on the stove.
