Chapter 19: The Superior Female Lead Pampers Her Husband Without Limit 19
It hurt!
His clothes rubbed against the wound!
Xavi's hand trembled slightly from the pain.
Jewel was sure she didn't use that much force!
"Your arm's injured too?"
She felt so stupid—she should've acted first back then, shown those three what she was capable of!
If she ever saw them again, she wouldn't hold back. She'd beat them up all over again!
"Let me see."
Jewel didn't dare touch her little husband too roughly anymore…
"Wife…"
Xavi looked embarrassed. Was she really going to make him undress in broad daylight?
"Hurry up."
Her tone left no room for argument.
Xavi slowly loosened his belt. Jewel helped him pull down his inner sleeve, being careful not to move his arm too much.
As the clothes came off, Jewel's heart ached. His elbow was bruised with a patch of blue and purple, and there were scrapes with dried blood where it had hit small stones.
How could he not say anything? Did he not feel pain?
He was hurt like this and still stayed quiet!
If she hadn't noticed it herself, would he have just waited for it to heal on its own?
This silly boy… didn't even cry when he was hurt?
Jewel felt both anxious and distressed. She really wanted to scold him for being so careless!
But she also knew he was scared of making her upset, so she couldn't just lash out.
If she scolded him the way she used to train her staff back in the modern world, what if she scared him? What if he thought she was mean or didn't care about him? It might hurt his feelings and make him even more afraid to talk to her or get close to her in the future.
No, she couldn't let that happen. She had to make him feel safe—she couldn't scare him.
Jewel took a deep breath to calm herself down.
Xavi felt the moment his clothes were pulled aside, Jewel's mood changed. But she didn't say anything, just stood there quietly, holding it in. He stayed still too, afraid to move.
The small boy stood in front of her with no clothes on his upper body, looking up at her timidly…
Fine, Jewel admitted—her heart completely softened.
He was her husband, her precious husband!
She couldn't bear to scold him, let alone see him unhappy. There was a phrase—"take it slowly." She'd pamper him first. Maybe things would get easier later on.
Knowing he was shy, she went to the cabinet and pulled out a clean robe, gently draping it over him, leaving only his injured arm exposed.
Jewel helped tidy his clothes, then carefully picked him up in her arms and sat by the table.
"Wife…"
Xavi curled up in her arms and called out softly.
"Be good. I'll put medicine on you."
Jewel pressed his head gently against her neck and lovingly kissed his smooth forehead. "Don't worry, it won't hurt."
Seeing him obediently get ready, she took out the ointment from her sleeve and placed it on the table. She dipped a cloth in the basin, wrung it out, and carefully wiped around his wound.
As she applied the ointment, she gently blew on the area to ease the sting.
Xavi felt the cool medicine on his elbow. After a while, it stopped hurting.
Once the wound was treated, Jewel touched his lower back and asked, "Does it hurt here?"
Xavi couldn't hide the soreness in his back and nodded.
Jewel laid him down on the bed, covering him with a blanket while keeping his injured arm out.
"I'll go get a doctor to check on you. I'll be right back, okay?"
"Okay…" Xavi nodded obediently.
Soon, Jewel returned with Doctor Liu from the village.
"Don't worry," Doctor Liu said, "your husband's fine. Just rub this ointment on his back and he'll recover."
Doctor Liu had treated all kinds of illnesses—colds, fevers, even men in childbirth—but this was the first time someone called her for a simple fall. She couldn't help but admire how much Jewel cared for her husband.
Relieved by the diagnosis, Jewel paid the fee and sent Doctor Liu off.
"Xavi, lie down and rest, alright? Don't do any more chores at home."
She helped apply the new medicine to his lower back and massaged it gently.
"But… Wife, we can't let Mama do everything alone…"
Xavi hesitated. Honestly, he felt fine. Jewel was just spoiling him too much. Other men worked in the fields even in their eighth or ninth month of pregnancy. He'd just tripped and fallen, that's all.
"I'll talk to Papa. You just focus on resting."
She stroked his soft hair.
After applying the medicine, she lay down beside him and shared her plans. "Tomorrow I'll head into town to take care of a few things—start preparing for our future business. You just stay here and rest, alright?"
"But… I want to go with you…" Xavi's eyes sparkled.
"Xavi, your body's not up for that much walking. I don't want to tire you out."
She leaned in and kissed his cheek. "Be good. I'll be back by afternoon and bring you something yummy. Sound good?"
Blushing, Xavi nodded.
Actually, he noticed that earlier, when Jewel saw his injuries, she was a little mad. He knew she always cared deeply for him, so maybe she was angry he didn't tell her.
Even though she was upset, she never scolded him—not even once. And just now, she'd kissed him so many times…
He really didn't want her to be upset. From now on, he had to be more careful. If he got hurt again, she might really give him a lecture next time.
"Xavi, take a nap. You've had a long day."
Jewel gently patted him and coaxed him to sleep.
Once he was sound asleep, Jewel quietly got out of bed.
Since her father hadn't come back yet, she decided to cook dinner and show off her cooking skills.
In her past life, she'd struggled when she was young, which made her independent and self-reliant.
By the time she was twelve or thirteen, she could handle every tool in the kitchen and cook excellent meals. Later on, when life got better, she kept cooking as a hobby and even got the highest-level chef's certificate.
She truly loved cooking and hoped to turn her passion into a business.
Maybe she could open a restaurant here…
In the kitchen, Jewel moved swiftly, using the tools with ease. The more she cooked, the happier she felt.
She skillfully sliced the potatoes into thin strips, then heated the oil and stir-fried them quickly…
Dinner was ready in no time. When her father returned just before the meal, he saw the table full of delicious-looking dishes, all made by his daughter.
