Chapter 2: chapter 1: you are not hermione
"Where am I?" were the words of the unknown woman who looked around before her gaze met Severus' , remaining mesmerized for a few seconds by seeing what for her would be the most beautiful eyes. She shook her head and spoke again to the man in front of her with concern:
—Please tell me what year it is—
Severus hesitated to answer before seeing the girl's eyes, which were filled with great fear, causing him to sigh before answering:
—It's the year 1976, now tell me who...—
As Severus spoke, he was interrupted by a cry of joy from the girl, who jumped out of bed. When he was about to interrupt her, he heard something that shocked him:
—I DID IT, Professor Snape ! I was able to travel back in time to stop Volde …—
The girl stopped dead in her tracks as she realized where she was. She turned around in fear to see the young man along with concern, only to be further frightened by the look of shock on his face. She began searching for her wand with the intention of erasing his memory, but as she searched for it, a ton of questions popped into Severus ' mind :
—(Time travel? Stop Voldemort from winning? What's going on? Professor Snape ? Are you referring to me or the original Snape ?)—
Severus ' mind before he snapped out of his shock due to the magic his eyes detected. He fixed his gaze on the one he believed to be Hermione, only to see her with a wand in her hand, ready to cast a spell. Severus became serious and acted:
— Obli …—
The girl was about to cast a spell before being interrupted by two wolves who came out of nowhere at her sides, snatching her wand and surprising her with their speed. Before she could do anything, she felt something cold on the back of her neck, only to hear some words behind her:
—Listen to me carefully, you better not try anything or you'll know what it's like to receive a Cruciatus , do you understand?—
The young woman, somewhat fearful, could only answer "yes" before asking a question:
—W-who are you?—
—I'm the one asking the questions here. Now tell me, who are you?—
—I'm Hermione Granger —
Hearing his name confirmed one of her suspicions, but without giving Hermione time to ask a question, he spoke again:
—Listen to me, Hermione, I'll put down my wand and answer your questions if you answer mine. Just don't try anything weird and I won't hurt you. What do you say? Do we have a deal?—
Hearing this, Hermione breathed a sigh of relief before speaking:
—Okay, we have a deal—
After coming to an agreement, Severus lowered his wand and sat down on the chair in the room while urging Hermione to sit on the bed, causing her to sit down cautiously as she looked at the young man in front of her before speaking:
—I already told you who I am, now tell me who you are—
—I'm Severus Snape . Now tell me, why did you travel back in time?
These words surprised Hermione, who could not believe what she was hearing, since the young man in front of her bore no resemblance to her teacher:
—Impossible, you bear no resemblance to Professor Snape , not even your eyes resemble his. Tell me, who are you really?—
Hearing this, Severus smiled because an idea occurred to him, backed by his knowledge of the movies and series he watched and which he would now use to trick and get as much information as possible out of this girl and get a competent ally:
—That's because I'm the Severus. Snape from another universe different from yours. That's why I have almost no resemblance to the Snape you know—
—What do you mean you're a different Snape than the one I know and what do you mean by a different universe?—
—You see, Hermione, you didn't actually travel back in time, you just traveled to a universe similar to yours with a time difference. Do you understand? So, no matter how much you alter this world, nothing will change about the future you know—
Severus could see Hermione lower her head, but as he was about to say something, he saw a few drops fall to the floor before hearing her sob:
— Sniff … it can't be… sniff … they all died for nothing. I failed them… sniff … all of them… sniff …—
Severus could see that the words he had just spoken had broken Hermione, who seemed to be in great pain, and from the dark circles under her eyes, he assumed she hadn't slept in days. But instead of feeling guilty about his actions, he just went over and hugged her, feeling how she squeezed his shirt and broke down as she cried. He just smiled secretly, lost in his thoughts:
—(Perfect, my plan is going better than planned. Oh, poor Hermione, so alone and helpless, all her hopes destroyed. At times like this, what she needs most is someone she can trust and who better than me for that job. Ha, ha, ha!)—
As he thought, he could feel the grip on his shirt loosen, only to look down and see a fast asleep Hermione in his arms. He then laid her down on her bed, tucked her in, and left the room with a smile on his face heading to his parents' old room to sleep and plan how to make Hermione trust him deeply.
[The next day]
Severus ' room , Hermione could be seen waking up, looking around with a look that she had lost all hope. Her eyes were red due to crying so much the night before, thinking about what to do now. In the end, everyone she knew died at the hands of Voldemort, Professor Snape sacrificed his life for nothing, and now she was trapped in a completely different universe with nowhere to go. But as she was lamenting, she felt the door to the room being opened. She turned her gaze to the door to see the one who claims to be this universe's Snape , with a plate and a cup of what she believes to be coffee.
—Good morning, Hermione. I know you must be going through a difficult time, so I brought you breakfast to help you get better—
As he spoke in a cheerful tone compared to the day before, but before Hermione could say anything, she saw the face that smiled sincerely at her and those blue eyes that did not look at her with pity, but with sweetness, making a small blush appear on her cheeks. But before she could say anything, Severus began to speak:
—I know you have a lot of questions, but you better eat first. From what I see, you don't have much strength left due to the journey between universes. Once you're done, come to the room down the stairs and I'll answer all your questions—
Without giving Hermione time to answer, he left the room. Paying no attention to the sad expression that appeared on the girl's face when he said the word "universe", he said it intentionally, closing the door as the smile he had maintained the entire time quickly disappeared after closing the door and was replaced by a serious expression as he headed to the living room to make his next move.
After a few minutes, Hermione could be seen walking down the stairs towards the living room as hundreds of questions ran through her mind and a spark of hope lit up in her heart. Maybe the Snape who is here is indeed a traveler from another universe and came to hers, and that is why he mistook her for a traveler from another universe and not a time traveler. There may be hope that if he traveled back in time he could save everyone he met. With this new motivation, Hermione hurriedly headed to the living room to see Severus sitting in an old armchair while reading the newspaper. Noticing Hermione's presence, he put the newspaper aside and gave her a smile to start talking:
—You've finished eating, tell me what you thought of your first meal in another universe—
As Severus spoke, he could see the spark of hope in Hermione's eyes, surprising him at how strong this girl is. But instead of worrying about his plan, it only made his smile bigger, as he knew that once he finishes with his plan, she will be completely shattered.
—Yes, I'm done eating and the food was good, prof … cough …I mean, Mr. Snape . You might as well answer my questions now—
As he spoke, Severus noticed the hope in the girl's words, making him almost feel guilty for what he was going to do.
—Of course, tell me any questions you have. I will try to answer them as best I can and you don't have to call me Mr. Snape , you can call me Severus . After all, we are the same age—
—Well, I'll tell you Severus then. Now could you tell me why you think I'm from another universe and how you know so much about this subject—
—Sure, but only if you guarantee me that what we say here doesn't leave this room, since what I'm about to say would put us in the eye of the entire magical world—
—Okay, I'll give you my word that I won't tell anyone what you tell me—
Severus ' answer , which he was just laughing to himself before speaking.
—The answer to your first question is simple. I don't think you're from another universe, I know you are because of my eyes. And I know so much about the subject because I'm also a traveler like you—
As Hermione listened to Severus speak, she couldn't help but frown at the answer to her first question as it made no sense to her. How can this guy know something so important just from her eyes? She might admit that they were incredibly beautiful, but that doesn't mean she can just say that.
—Listen, I can try to believe you that you are from another universe, but you saying that I am from another universe just because of your eyes doesn't make any sense. So please, tell me the truth—
As Hermione spoke, pent-up anger was evident, to which Severus paid no attention.
—That's the truth. And before you say anything, the reason I'm telling you this is because my eyes are special, as they allow me to see magic at an atomic level, so I can see the difference between the magic of this world and yours—
These words touched a nerve in Hermione, who was unable to maintain her composure.
—YOU LIE! Nothing you say can be true—
Hermione was upset, all the emotions she had repressed were coming to the surface, much to Severus 's delight .
—Listen, Hermione, I know this may sound crazy, but it's the truth …—
—Prove it! I want you to prove that you are telling the truth—
Severus could see that Hermione wouldn't believe him without proof, so he just sighed before standing up.
—Well, I'll show you some otherworldly magic so you'll believe me, what do you think?—
—Well then show me this otherworldly magic—
After hearing these words, Severus put his hands together in the sign of the wolves before the attentive gaze of Hermione, who watched him in surprise, as it seemed that she was going to see wandless magic. But before she could ask anything, she saw with astonishment how a darkness came out of nowhere, giving shape to two wolves that she instantly recognized, being the same ones that took her wand. To her greatest surprise, the wolves turned back into darkness and came together, forming what seemed to her to be a werewolf unlike any she had ever seen: stronger and more dangerous. When she was about to speak, the same wolf disappeared in the same way it appeared, leaving no trace that it was there.
—And tell me, what did you think of my innate technique?—
Hermione was brought out of her shock by Severus ' words , who was looking at her intently with the same smile on his face.
[Time later]
A few hours had passed, and Severus and Hermione had been talking. Severus explained his abilities, withholding some information, such as Mahoraga . But the more they talked, Severus realized that Hermione seemed to remember almost nothing of what happened while performing the ritual that she and Snape used to send her to this place.
—Let me see, do you remember anything but colored lights before waking up in my bed?—
—Yes, I try to remember but I can't—
After hearing Hermione's words again, Severus thought for a while before an idea came to him. He then looked into Hermione's eyes before speaking.
—I know why. Will you let me use legeremancia on you so I can see what you saw?—
After hearing these words, Hermione's expression became uncomfortable, which did not go unnoticed by Severus , who spoke again before Hermione could refuse.
—Maybe with that I can help you travel to your universe before you start your first year and you can save your world. If my other self could do the ritual, I should be able to too—
After a few seconds of hesitation, Hermione accepted with some hesitation, undid her occlumency and looked at Severus before nodding her head confirming that she was ready.
—Don't worry, I'll just take a quick look. I won't invade your privacy—
Severus looked into Hermione's eyes before using Legilimency , but upon trying to view Hermione's memories, both he and she fell unconscious barely a second later.
[Unknown location]
Severus could be seen looking around in a daze, looking around for Hermione, only to be shocked to see buildings in ruins and hundreds of corpses on the ground, mutilated. Paying more attention to his surroundings, he realized he could hear loud explosions and screams in the distance. But when he was about to summon Nue to investigate, he realized something.
—Why can't I summon my shikigamis ?—
After a while of trying, he realized that not only could he not summon his shikigamis , but he also couldn't use magic, not even a spell as basic as " lumos ". But before he could think anything, he heard the screams and explosions getting louder.
—I have to get out of here, I don't want to know what's causing all this chaos in my condition—
Severus began to run in the opposite direction of where he heard the screams, to his surprise he saw how the space around him changed, going from being in a city to what seemed like a prison. He went from hearing screams to hearing sobbing in the distance, and cautiously began to walk in the direction of the sobbing, seeing several cells full of corpses of all kinds: men, women, children, disfigured and mutilated. Seeing so many corpses, not only did it make him feel disgust, but it also caused him a feeling that he thought he would never experience again: fear.
—Where the hell am I?—
The further he walked, the more afraid he felt. Not only was he in an unknown place, he had also lost the ability to use magic and the use of the ten shadows. He was trapped with a monster that, by the looks of it, destroyed a city. Defenseless, with no chance to defend himself. While quietly cursing his luck, he arrived in front of a door that seemed to be the source of the sobs.
—Calm down, Severus , do not let fear dominate you. The only person with the answers to your questions is behind this door—
Severus raised his hand to open the door, only to notice that it was shaking. He clicked his tongue and pushed the door open. Looking inside, he was horrified.
—God, what kind of sick person did this?—
In front of him was the grim sight of a woman with no arms or legs, pinned to the wall with chains that brutally pierced what was left of her body, with hundreds of cuts all over. Looking at her face, he realized that the woman in front of him was Hermione. The person who did this to her not only didn't stop at cutting her up, mutilating her, and impaling her, but also gouged out both of her eyes. It was a miracle that the woman was still alive. The person left her in that state so that it would take as long as possible for her to die.
—Hermione, who did this to you?—
The woman, upon hearing the voice that called her, could only speak weakly to the person she supposed was in front of her.
-Who are you?-
Severus could only feel pity as he heard Hermione's weak, broken voice, but he knew he didn't have time for that. This woman didn't have much time left, and he needed answers before she died.
—It's me, Severus . Now tell me, what happened?—
—Professor, it was horrible. When that monster appeared, the whole world went into chaos. Thousands died because of me. If I hadn't found that book, none of this would have happened—
Severus grew more serious, the fear inside him only increasing, but before he could ask anything, he heard Hermione's voice again.
—I know you're not the Professor Snape I know, but listen to what I'm going to tell you: the fate of the world is in your hands—
These words left Severus stupefied .
—Listen, the Hermione you met is not me. She is just an existence created by him to guide him to more worlds that he can destroy. Even though she has my appearance and memories, she is nothing more than a beacon that will guide him to your world. Don't kill her, that will only make him arrive immediately to your world. You must find a way to kill him. You have three years…—
Hermione's voice was getting lower and lower, indicating that the last of her life was running out, worrying Severus even more , who was asking himself more and more questions.
—Wait, don't die yet. Tell me, who are you talking about? Where are we? What do you mean she's not you? Please answer me—
— Mahoraga is the key—
Granger 's last words before she died, taking Severus by surprise . According to him, no one should know that. But as he thought, the space around him changed, taking him by surprise, and he fell backwards to the ground in disbelief.
—Impossible, he shouldn't exist in this world—
In front of Severus was a mountain of corpses with a figure on top of them all while eating the head of what seemed to be a baby. But what scared him was not the grotesque scene of the baby; what made him tremble was that he recognized very well the person who was on top of those corpses, seeing the characteristics of that person:
"Four arms"
"Two faces"
"Two mouths"
—Su… Sukuna ?—
Saying that name, he clearly saw how the person in front of him turned to look at him with a big smile that showed his teeth full of blood and flesh, before everything went dark and he began to hear someone saying his name.
[Severus 's house ]
In the living room, a worried Hermione could be seen trying to wake Severus , who was sweating and shaking on the floor. She was startled when she saw him suddenly stand up and look around in visible fear, before seeing him stare at her as if he saw a ghost, which worried her.
—Thank God you woke up. I was worried about you. Tell me, what did you see? —
After "Hermione" asked, Severus not only didn't answer, but he took a few steps back to get away from this woman who seemed dangerous to him, before saying something in a halting manner that left the woman in front of him stupefied.
—You… you are not Hermione Granger —
