The Tycoon Inheritance

Chapter 93: 92.

'System.'

[How can I help you host?]

'……. Is there a mission for this life? Why is this life's trajectory one similar to a Son of Destiny?'

The system didn't answer right away.

After analyzing its host's emotions and state of mind, it calculated the right answer for him.

[To compensate the host for taking on the duty as a Transmigration in the Lower Worlds, this body was given to you. There are no life missions nor any specific growth needed. The trajectory of this destiny line has no major impact on this planet.]

Chen Kai had no response to the system's response.

After taking over the Li family mantle and once again at the helm of that little empire, Chen Kai was drowning in negative emotions, struggling to stay tuned to this new life and trying to remind himself not to fall in. When he made his thunderous moves, he saw the looks from those around him – he acted like a veteran and not like a normal person who was recently tainted.

He was in a constant bright mood when he first arrived there, but now it seems like that brightness is gradually dimming.

A tight frown played along his sharp brows.

"I… had a plan. A list of things to do with xiao Yan and with…. Su Lian. But…" He rubbed his brows tiredly and began inwardly cursing himself.

Didn't he say that this was his retirement? He didn't want to be too immersed in the roles of CEO/family head/leader but he failed.

Chen Kai slipped back into his emotionless state temporarily while he was overseas, if it wasn't for an impromptu call from Su Lian, he would have returned to that abyss.

Thanks to her, and continuing his cultivation, he became steadier with his emotions. But. He couldn't get over his doubt of the smooth sailing that can be incomprehensible to many.

He was living the life of Heaven's favored child.

'System, show me my current status.'

[Are there any parameters the host wishes to exclude?]

'No. Full report.'

[Processing.]

It took thirty seconds for transparent screens to project before Chen Kai.

Basic Profile. Body Diagnostic. Mental Diagnostic.

Chen Kai studied each report closely.

The basic profile consisted of his identification, cultivation level, skills, properties, and personal funds. – Nothing amiss.

Body Diagnostic showed all tests the system made within his body from brain scans to blood tests. – No problems detected. Minor fatigue.

Mental Diagnostic checks for any instability in emotional, psychological, and social well-being. – Slight depression.

Slight depression.

A wry smile played on his lips. He expected as much.

'System…'

[Yes, host.]

What was he going to say?

After calling out to the system, his mind went blank. What was I going to do? What was I going to ask of the system? Wasn't I going to ask for help for something I can do on my own? Chen Kai began to question himself.

He was too dependent on the system.

'System, when is your departure date?'

[…]

[ My departure has been set when the host's inheritance is complete. There is no time estimation. Progress: 67%]

'67%?'

[Items from the host's past lives that are not compatible have been auctioned at the Interdimensional Auction Hall. The monetary inheritance has been converted to Earth's current currency.]

'Ohhh…' With a thought, he pulled up his personal savings which have been managed by the system and Argon's finance function.

When the page popped up, Chen Kai didn't think much or put much thought into his past riches and the present conversion. He glanced at it carelessly.

"Hmm?" He refocused his sight on the page.

"How many zeroes are there? ….Damn!" Chen Kai squinted his eyes and counted the zeroes after the random numbers.

He knew he was rich but not this rich. After silencing the reward notifications, he lost track of all the cash the system gave him.

"RMB. Euro. USD. All over twenty billion and counting. Well damn. Is this what it means by 'A lifetime of wealth'? Hehehe~"

System:[ "…"]

Chen Kai raised his chin in arrogance and propped his hands on his waist. "Soon I'll be a trillionaire," he shouted with an arrogant tone.

If anyone can see his little play of an arrogant rich prince, they can see the playful gleam in his eyes.

The system has a grasp on its host's personality and turned a blind monitor on him. A random one-lined report was written in its file on Chen Kai.

 Visual reports of wealth can heighten the host's emotions to a stable and healthy level.

Unaware of the system's addition to his file, Chen Kai was going through his inventory. Each item he checked, there was always a nostalgic comment on them.

Maybe he was too distracted by his past life memories but Chen Kai's mood and overall mental state were gradually stabilizing. It wasn't a quick fix per se, but recalling things from his other lives helped in keeping his mind in a good state.

"XiaoYan would love this. Hmm, another large mana stone, a few more are here too. Maybe I should create a few arrays at all of the estates so I can cultivate continuously. Oh! This! ….. " His words end on a low hum, a thoughtful and wistful one.

"I wonder…."

He waved his hand and a taupe-colored ring box with intricate silver vine etchings appeared on his palm. In all the lives he lived, he must say he did have moments of happiness. Even though his emotions were sealed, he knew what it was because he always became calm and at ease at those moments.

One was of his previous life where he actually had a mother figure. She loved and protected him as best as she could from those vultures in their family. He appreciated her immensely.

He opened the box and the light from overhead got caught on the gem. The platinum band was still shining from the previous cleaning, the gem was similar to this Earth's Star Sapphire. Its vibrant blue was dazzling and eye catching; the square shaped gem was held in 2 intricate leaves formed from vines around the ring.

It was his mother's engagement ring.

Isn't it time to work on his next retirement goal?

Chen Kai smiled at the thought of that goal. Su Lian has been part of his and the previous host's plans.

The previous host loved her silently for 4 years, only wavering upon dwelling on their difference in lifestyle. He wanted the best for her and had that moment of insecurity; that's when the plain relationship with Zhang Rui came into play. It was more like Zhang Rui wanted something out of that ill-fated relationship while he only cared about pushing Su Lian out of his heart, may be pushing her to someone better than him.

"That didn't work out huh? That bitch was ready to kill you over a few pages of work and cheated the entire time. Hahhhh~ Lucky thing that your fate line was chosen for my retirement." Muttering to himself, Chen Kai resumed the sorting of his treasures after placing the ring in his inner realm.

Just like all the heroes in cultivation novels, he too created an inner realm to keep his prized possession close to him even after death. Currently it holds his favored swords and pills he made along with sentimental objects of his past lives, now it has been updated.

The ring was placed in a room on the top floor of the pagoda.

Sitting on the floor in the middle of his Master bedroom, Chen Kai was in a meditative state, moving things from the system's inventory to his inner realm mechanically.

"This can be used here." His hand stopped on a SSS class water monster core; it was cleansed of its miasma and can be used freely. If set to be auctioned off, it would earn him more money than he will ever need.

"Hmmm." There were many more monster cores ranging from A class to EX class, all of which have different usages. The energy in each core is comparable to this planet's nuclear power stations. There isn't much usages for them at the moment, Chen Kai can only use them as array cores or substitute spirit stones for his and Chen Yan's cultivation.

"Lian will need a few also…. If she agrees though…" His mind moved from the monster cores to the cultivation technique he had for Su Lian.

He was meant ask her but the whole inheritance thing popped up. To be honest, Chen Kai was a bit insecure about their relationship. He left China abruptly and didn't have much time to have her visit for long periods. Each visit had to be meticulously planned out of fear of bringing her into the crossfires of the scruples he found himself in.

Su Lian knows of that part of his life but only basic things. Chen Kai didn't dare bring her in fully. Things were still unstable.

This is one of the reasons why she wasn't notified of his arrival back in the country.

He hopes her acceptance of him and decision to stay haven't weakened. After his revelation of his identity, their relationship was beginning to mend; he can't help but feel uneasy about their time apart from each other.

Coming out of his meditative state and dismissing the system, he abruptly came out of his thoughts of Su Lian with a frown marring his face.

"Are they so hasty?" He sensed a few strange auras that hadn't been cloaked with his spiritual sense. Their covert behavior and entrance on the estate placed them as enemies.

Rising to his feet, he made his way to his door and stepped into the hall. He can hear the sound of hurried yet steady steps coming up the stairs.

"Ming! Who is it?" he shouted to the person who had yet to step onto the master floor.

Tong Ming on the other hand was once again shocked by his young master's perception.

"We have yet to identify the intruders. A flash bomb was set off in the east quadrant to distract us but they failed. The scout team has been sent out." Tong Ming didn't delay in his report, nor did he ask the young master how he knew of the intruder breach.

"Which of the five have been restless for the past few days? I know one of their eyeliners shared my arrival date," Chen Kai asked this question because he was used to this probing tactic.

The other families were feeling threatened.

A new leader brings change.

If Chen Kai is in a shitty mood and decided to lash out, any one of them can be hit in the crossfire. To get to know this new master, they have to check things for themselves, but this person did it the wrong way.

They don't know how ruthless this young master was.

Young Master Chen simply wants a few days of quiet before he deals with them but they were too anxious.

Tong Ming silently lit a candle for them.

"The Xi and Sun families."

A disdainful click of the tongue was the reply to that statement.

"Verify the person behind these intruders and send them back with a courtesy card." Chen Kai changed his mind from going down to get himself involved with that little issue. He knew his people had it handled, if not, he could easily take action. His uncle is probably the same and still in his bed.

"Yes, young master." Tong Ming turned on his heel and left the master floor after being dismissed.

With his young master secured in the main house with guards at every exit and entrance ,even a few hidden spots, Tong Ming took the ATV and drove to the security villa.

Two men, dressed in combat attire stood at the main door awaiting his return.

"Assistant Tong." They greeted solemnly.

"Found them?"

"Team 5 caught two leaving the east quadrant and Team 3 found an additional four trying to enter the northside. The first two have just been brought in."

"Tsk! Annoying. We just came back." Tong Ming moved at a brisk pace not waiting for the two to follow. The villa was active, the sound of orders and replies were heard, news came in over special cellphones and monitors on each floor kept flashing with images of the entire estate.

Tong Ming made his way to the elevator and pressed the down button. The two came in after him and politely pressed G3 on the console.

The ride down was silent.

The two guards had no wayward or speculative thoughts. They both wanted to relax since they arrived in Beijing and was equally annoyed by the current situation. Their job as private guards for Young Master Chen became tougher since he took over and the people who want his head are many. The training has become harsher to keep up with the constant threats, it was worse than their military days.

Who would be so bold to interrupt their young master?

By Chen Kai's absence, it was clear that he didn't take the attack seriously. They only have to carry out whatever orders he possibly sent through Assistant Tong.

From the right hand man's annoyed look, it was probably a minor order.

Reaching floor three, the doors opened to a wide, sterile hall. The walkway was long and came to a cross path at the end; there were only two rooms on this stretch the entry office and the observation room.

Tong Ming passed through the entry office to register his access card before leaving through the other side of the office to enter the holding area. Checking the time, it was nearing 2AM; a typical time to ambush one's enemy.

Holding Room B. Tong Ming entered the white sterile room with a stoic expression. He paid no attention to the two men who were chained to the floor in nothing but their underwear. The airflow was a bit chilly and the two captives were shivering after minutes under the constant air blast. When they saw the new arrivals, their arrogance appeared for some reason.

Tong Ming sat on the sole cushioned chair and crossed his legs leisurely while listening to the silly curses. The veiled threats about their boss executing revenge for them and their blatant mockery of their young master Chen filled the room. It was clear that they were trying to get a rise out of them, but to Tong Ming and the guards, they were nothing but clowns.

Ten minutes passed with their idiotic rants when the door was opened once again.

The latter two turned pale at the sight of their stripped and battered comrades being shuffled into the holding room to take the remaining spots besides them.

The silver chains rattled and clanked amidst the struggle; the loud click boomed in their ears when the 5 inch cuffs closed on their wrists and ankles.

"How dare you treat us like this, you mongrels! It would be wise if you released us now. Your bastard young master is nothing but a little chicken placing himself before our master….."

"You can start." Tong Ming order cut off the useless threat from the man.

All six were bound by their hands on legs in a kneeling position; they couldn't move freely and was subject to the cold tile and chilly silver chains. They were forced to keep their backs straight by the short chain lengths; this made it easier for the guards to take snap shots of their faces and their fingerprints.

One scoffed, "Do you really think facial recognition can help you? So fucking naïve!"

"The Li family is really going to the trash. Who would be stupid enough to search the web for our identity? You should have a vague impression on who we are. Your new master is incompetent now, you should find a better master."

"You look capable, why don't you serve our young master who is a better candidate for the new head of their generation. Your young master is now learning the ropes, how long would it take him to integrate into this side of society."

"Things aren't what they seem on the surface. Can they lead you all to a life of luxury with those stagnant companies they have? They may be popular and bring in lots of profits but that's on the old man's head. When your untrained stray puppy takes over won't it all disappear? We can help you. Trust us!"

Tong Ming listened to all their persuasive words but there wasn't a hint of being moved by their words. One of the men who can be said to be pretty observant noticed a peculiarity.

Wasn't it said that veteran employees tend to despise a new boss?

Isn't human mentality based on greed and power? Why weren't they affected by their words?

What's with those looks of mockery?

Wasn't it true that the found young master was picked up and adopted by the old man? Did they get it wrong?

"Assistant Tong." A guard handed over his tablet and stood behind his superior. He couldn't help but send a look of schadenfreude to these overly arrogant dogs.

A dog mimics its master.

When Tong Ming read the results of their search thanks to the A.I their young master created for the organization, he couldn't stop the laugh that was stuck in his throat.

It wasn't the Sun or Xi families but a vassal family who wants to show their tail.

"The Long family is impressive. If we were back in the ancient times, your boss would probably be a lowly Baron house with no high achievements but still arrogant. A small ant dares to set his dogs on a dragon. Pathetic."

All six were dumbfounded. Weren't their identities destroyed when they were recruited as private guards for the Long family. The Xi family covered them, how were they found?

"My young master sends his regards."

Those words struck a cold spike in their hearts. That message sounds eerie and paired with Tong Ming's indifferent expression it was even more ominous.

"Cut off their trigger fingers. The young master wants to test that new drug also," he continued.

That's when the six realized the miscellaneous equipment and military knives on the guards.

Their pride disappeared and only fear remained.

Cut off their fingers? This was their livelihood.

Test a new drug? What drug? Isn't human experimentation banned?

This isn't what the Xi family told them to be aware of.

Isn't the Li family a tiger that lost its fangs?

Bad communication.

"Hey.. hey. No. Please don't!" The cries of the most arrogant captive filled the room.

"Aiyo. Bear with me, I only have a knife at the moment, we don't have a saw. Bones are tough," the guard said in a comforting tone. His actions were far from comforting.

!!CRACK!!

The other five shuddered. Who knew the sound of breaking bones can be so loud?

The man continued to wail, struggling to free his hand from the guard's vise grip. The knife moved.

Red blood splashed onto the white tile.

Agony filled screams bounced on the wall.

Five paled in the fear after witnessing what was to come to them.

Their captors didn't flinch nor showed any signs of remorse, not even hesitation. To them this was minor compared to what happens overseas. The intruders can be considered squeamish in their eyes.

"Breaking the finger first is more effective, sir." The guard announced.

"Very efficient. Proceed."
