The Untouchable of Magic High School – A New God Enters the Game

Chapter 65: Chapter 64: Nine Schools Competition Eve Part 1

Few would deny that Mio Itsuwa, eldest daughter of Isami Itsuwa, head of the Itsuwa family—one of the Ten Master Clans—is a household name among mages. As one of only 13 globally recognized Strategic-Class Mages, the "Thirteen Apostles," she's Japan's sole officially acknowledged Strategic-Class Mage (though about 50 exist worldwide, including unofficial ones). Wielder of the Strategic-Class Magic Abyss, her immense talent comes at the cost of frail health, her appearance resembling an early teen. She uses a motorized wheelchair to conserve energy. Despite her role as a deterrent and her family's status, some view her not as human but as a "weapon."

This is the public's perception of Mio Itsuwa. But in reality…

"Yugen-kun, long time no see!" Mio chirped.

"Mio-san, please, some discretion, even if we're alone," Yugen replied.

After a meeting, Mio summoned Yugen to a VIP room separate from Maya's. Guided by a butler, he found Mio in her wheelchair. The moment they were alone, she leapt from it, landing gracefully and hugging him.

"It's fine sometimes, right? Can't show this to the staff," she said.

"I thought your doctors knew?" Yugen countered.

"If people knew, it'd trouble you… Why not just get engaged?" she teased.

"Don't get carried away," he chided.

Mio typically spoke politely but dropped formalities with Yugen to avoid fatigue. He gently carried her back to her wheelchair, princess-style. Blushing, she looked down.

"That's unfair, Yugen-kun. You even feed the fish you've caught," she pouted.

"I haven't caught anything," he retorted.

Yugen's treatment of Mio involved Reinforce, a Psion wavelength adjustment magic—technically an organic/spiritual interference spell, Floral Wind. It doubled as an experiment, incorporating negative ion emission and airflow manipulation to balance her physical, astral, and spiritual bodies. Reinforce was too potent, boosting mages' abilities, as seen with Gousan, Shunya, and Honami. During freshman recruitment week, Yugen used Floral Wind to counter Psion-induced nausea from pseudo-Cast Jamming, targeting the hunting club seniors.

He forgot Ami was in range, and per Touya, her skills soared afterward, likely due to her Psion reserves misaligning with her body, which Floral Wind corrected, enhancing her magic. Magic's terrifying potential, Yugen thought, creates convenient outcomes in a world where they shouldn't exist, though he denies being an outlier.

"My appearance, huh? It's improving lately," Mio mused.

"That's good," Yugen said.

"Don't be so formal! I should be the one showing respect!" she huffed.

To Mio, Yugen was her savior, curing what renowned healers couldn't. His feat shook the magical medical world, marking him as exceptional among the Ten Master Clans. Her father, Isami, pushed for their engagement. As the third son, Yugen couldn't lead the Mitsuya family, but as an unofficial Strategic-Class Mage, he was vital. A marriage between Strategic-Class Mages would ripple globally, so Yugen politely declined Isami's offer, though Mio welcomed it.

"I've said it before, but I did deceive you," Yugen admitted.

"Mages thrive on deception. The Ten Master Clans especially," Mio replied.

"Can't deny that," he agreed.

Yugen used Floral Wind under the guise of undisclosed healing magic. It restored Mio without harming her magic, but Isami, unsatisfied with vague explanations, pressed Yugen—not as clan head, but as a father. Such knowledge couldn't be shared, even with the magic-friendly Mitsuya family, and Isami's actions risked mage ethics. Mio, as the subject, learned the spell's outline from Yugen, convincing her father.

"Still, trying to engage me as an apology isn't much different from the Saegusa head," Yugen noted. "For mage families, producing superior heirs is logical."

"What? The Saegusa too? Mayumi's sisters?" Mio asked.

"Izumi-chan, yeah. But the Toyama incident and Valentine's Day canceled it. Mostly the former," Yugen explained.

Yugen knew vaguely of a fiancée but not details until the engagement was broken. He'd planned to proceed until last year, unaware of Miyuki's feelings (Shiho, his wife, called it "their issue").

"Father, ruining my chance with Yugen-oniisama… what's the compensation?" Izumi demanded, smiling with menace.

"Izumi, stop!" Mayumi pleaded.

"Calm down! Nagura-san's fainted standing up!?" Kasumi cried.

"(Did I raise her wrong?)" Kouichi wondered, sweating.

Kouichi questioned his parenting, not realizing Yugen's influence was the cause. Thus, the Rokutsuka head's brother's engagement to the Igarashi daughter went unopposed, known only to them and their butler.

"Izumi-chan said she doesn't want to see her father. I told her to calm down and asked Mayumi and Kasumi to help," Yugen said.

His White Day visit to the Saegusa, with cookies, was part of that. Katsuto took half to the Juumonji, earning praise from his family. Hopefully, no flags raised.

"Has Mayumi's skinship increased lately?" Mio asked.

"Can't deny it, but she's engaged to Hiroshi, right?" Yugen said.

"Just a candidate. They've dined and dated, but the 'engagement' is overhyped," Mio clarified.

Yugen blinked, surprised. He'd assumed Mayumi was engaged, like Izumi's case. Tatsuya didn't investigate, as it didn't harm Miyuki. Yugen chided himself for assuming.

"Mayumi complained you don't call her by name," Mio added.

"If I did at school, her unofficial fanclub would riot. We're both Ten Master Clan heirs, despite the age gap," Yugen said.

"Fair, but she won't give up," Mio warned.

Avoiding her fanclub's jealousy was Yugen's priority.

"With Izumi's issue lingering…" Yugen began.

"She saw an opportunity. Ten Master Clans rarely marry for love," Mio said.

"I'm not meddling in Saegusa drama," Yugen stated.

The broken engagement fueled Mayumi's bolder skinship, evident at parties versus school.

"Our grandpas are stirring Saegusa trouble, but I can't deny it," Yugen admitted.

"It's no loss for us. Actually, it's convenient," Mio said.

"Poor Hiroshi," Yugen remarked.

Mio's "convenience" meant Izumi's failed engagement opened a path for her. With Mio healthy, Hiroshi and Mayumi's progress was trivial to the Itsuwa family.

Gousan told Yugen that preserving Strategic-Class Mage bloodlines was vital, as his kids lacked the ability, but Yugen, his grandson, inherited it. Gousan urged multiple marriages, ignoring civil law, to expand the lineage, citing connections like Aoba Toudou to silence the government. Terrifying. Yugen figured Tatsuya was an exception, known to Gousan, who likely knew Miyuki too. Even as a reincarnated interloper, Yugen thought, "As expected of the protagonist."

In his past life, harems seemed enviable. Now, born into a mage family, he saw them as a distant fantasy, like expecting a girls' school to be paradise—reality was harsher. His lack of romantic feelings complicated things, a secret shared only with Gousan.

"As a guy, I feel pathetic. You're better at stealing hearts," Mio teased.

"I'm no thief. You're not helping?" Yugen asked.

"Nope. I've got my own agenda," Mio said, dismissing her brother.

Yugen clutched his head. They discussed school and the Nine School Competition, then he was freed. As he left, Mio wailed, "Don't leave me!" prompting a temple-grinding Thor Hammer from his mother's playbook. Mio muttered, "This is love's whip…"

This teenage Strategic-Class Mage is trouble. She needs fixing, fast.
