The Untouchable of Magic High School – A New God Enters the Game

Chapter 70: Chapter 69: Nine Schools Competition, Day One (Part 4)

In the Independent Magic-Equipped Battalion's suite, Major Yamanaka questioned Tatsuya about his technical staff role, subtly probing matters involving both him and Yugen.

"So, technical staff, huh? Do your teammates know about 'Taurus Silver'?" Yamanaka asked.

"No, Major. That's confidential," Tatsuya replied.

"Still, two 'Taurus Silver' members in a high school event feels like cheating," Yamanaka teased.

It couldn't be revealed. Exposure would cause trouble, and with Third High's "Crimson Prince," "Cardinal George," and "Éclair Airi," Yugen and Tatsuya's edge seemed fair.

"They're legitimate high schoolers," Yamanaka continued. "Yugen aside, why not compete, Tatsuya? Your Flash Cast could shine. 'Material Burst' aside, you've got 'Mist Dispersion.'"

"Lieutenant Fujibayashi, Tatsuya's magic would be problematic if exposed," Yugen interjected. "No known 'Decomposition' users exist globally."

"Yugen, don't make me sound like hazardous material," Tatsuya said. "And Lieutenant, Flash Cast is a Yotsuba secret."

Yugen learned of Flash Cast through "Third Eye" design work, kept under military secrecy. Tatsuya, aware of his magic's danger, chided Kyoko lightly.

"Speaking of… Yugen, that magic you used last night had 'Decomposition' traits," Kazama noted.

"Yugen, such magic exists?" Kyoko asked, surprised.

"Ancient magic users might know it," Yugen said. "Tenjin Magic—an ancient, no, divine spirit magic."

Kazama, Yanagi, and Kyoko, versed in ancient magic, were stunned. Sanada and Yamanaka tilted their heads, while Tatsuya, less familiar, asked, "Major, you know it?"

"Yes," Kazama said. "The pinnacle of spirit magic, said to control natural phenomena. Yugen, you're serious?"

"I could make it drizzle outside now," Yugen offered.

"No, I'll pass," Kazama said. "You don't jest about this."

Kazama sensed Yugen's sincerity, chilled by a mythical magic in his subordinate. Sanada pressed, "Where'd you learn it?"

"New Shadow Style swordsmanship secrets," Yugen said. "Deciphering was tough."

Tenjin Magic, crafted by Abe no Seimei and Kamo Tadayuki, split into "Amaterasu" (surface) and "Tsukuyomi" (shadow). Both shared core principles but were hidden as ultimate secrets, passed orally. The surface lineage reached the Joushima; the shadow's heirs were vague, and Yugen, wary of non-canon ties, avoided digging.

"Why use it?" Kazama asked.

"It'll be unavoidable," Yugen said. "Gousan didn't scold me—he said 'use it.'"

"Gousan? Why?"

"No answer. I'll figure it out post-competition."

Yugen shelved Tenjin Magic thoughts for after the event, focusing on No-Head Dragon and the competition. Failing after bold claims would be humiliating, and Gousan's directive hinted at rallying allies familiar with ancient magic. Yugen sipped cooled tea, answering Kazama.

"Tatsuya's 'true' magic can't be used publicly," Kazama said. "We'll keep your Tenjin Magic under wraps."

"Appreciated," Yugen said.

"I doubt I'd compete, though," Tatsuya added.

"It's about readiness," Kazama said. "That's enough."

Tatsuya dodged scrutiny but sighed inwardly at the bombshell.

After the meeting, Yugen and Tatsuya reached the Speed Shooting venue, where Erika waved from packed stands. Miyuki and Shizuku had saved seats, earning thanks.

"Crazy crowd," Yugen said.

"Because of the president," Miyuki replied.

"Shizuku, not cheering for Igarashi-senpai?" Yugen asked.

"He wanted me to feel the event's vibe," Shizuku said. "Touya's cheering for him."

Ami wanted focus, not nerves, so declined extra support, though Touya went. Tatsuya checked on Honoka, showing care but cluelessness in romance. Yugen felt a dull pain—Miyuki was pinching his side, smiling.

"Miyuki-san, that hurts," Yugen said.

"Ask your heart why," she replied.

Her intuition was uncanny, almost ESP-like, fitting for magic. Yugen calmed her.

"Should've watched men's Battle Board fourth race," Yugen sighed.

"Who're you cheering?" Erika asked.

"Vice-President Hattori. No bad blood, but Mayumi might sulk."

"Her? Sulking?" Erika scoffed.

Few knew Mayumi's true self—only Yugen, Tatsuya, and Miyuki. Her polished Saegusa facade held firm. Yugen wouldn't say it to her face.

"Where's Mikihiko?" Yugen asked.

"Feeling ill, resting," Erika said, dismissive.

"Overwhelmed by the crowd's energy," Mizuki added. "Without glasses, I'd be down too."

The crowd's fervor could overwhelm sensitive types like Mikihiko or Yugen, who dulled his sensitivity deliberately.

Cheers erupted as Mayumi appeared. Displays flashed "Quiet, please," silencing the crowd.

Poor opponent, Yugen thought. The stands, a Mayumi fan club, created an away-game vibe. Her skill, beyond high school level, made it a formality. At the mixer, seniors grumbled about First High's dominance, but Master Clans had to flex at this globally watched event—Mayumi's "hassle."

Five signals lit up with sound, marking Speed Shooting's start. Mayumi and her opponent readied rifle-shaped CADs. Tatsuya noticed Mayumi's wasn't her qualifier model, nor Shizuku's custom or Silver Blossom series.

As signals peaked, red and white clays launched. Mayumi targeted red, her opponent white. Her speed, far beyond her demo, stunned Tatsuya.

"That CAD… Yugen, your work?" he asked.

"She insisted," Yugen said. "Impromptu, only she can use it."

Mayumi's rifle CAD, tailored for her Saegusa "Magic Bullet," was a single-magic model, maxing nine spell installs while meeting competition specs. Focused magic enabled pseudo-loop casting with clear termination but narrowed tactics. Only someone like Mayumi, consistent across rounds, or a versatile spell could wield it.

"That's competition-grade?" Erika asked. "Insane."

"Just a toy," Yugen said.

"A toy?" Shizuku gaped.

Yugen, who crafted military-grade rifle boosters and Silver Series like "Valkyrie" and "Odin," saw the CAD as a trifle, Tatsuya mused.

Mayumi's "Magic Bullet" obliterated red clays with precision, aiding her opponent but outpacing them with sheer speed. Switching to one-handed shooting, she shattered the 100th clay, ending the match.

Her dominance, beyond high school, carried through semifinals and finals, doubling scores. Mayumi clinched a third consecutive women's Speed Shooting title, including rookies.
