The Vice Captain of the WhiteBeard Pirates

Chapter 15: The Kingdom Under The Sea

The ship plunged into the deep blue, I know that the Resin should be sturdy enough to withstand the pressure of the deep blue sea. However, that didn't ease my worries about the resin bubble bursting, so I was on high alert and rather irritable towards the crewmates around me. It got to the point where Pop's reassured me that the bubble wouldn't burst, but I took no chances. The more we sank deeper the more sea life we began to see. From the smaller fish to the sea to even a gigantic sea king that happened to be swimming near by. I could sense whitebeard using his Conqurer's haki to steer off any sea kings in the nearby facility. It took a while before we reached Fishman Island.

Seeing Fishman Island for the first time was breath taking. The appearance of the kingdom could be compared to with a shiny pearl in the middle of the sea. The rest of the crew was filled with awe just as I was. To my side I saw many gaping mouths around me, looking at the kingdom we were slowly approaching. Pops managed to snap us out of it by ordering us to prepare to dock, he looked as if he was used to the appearance of fishman island. When we finally managed to dock the ship, we were met with the kingdom's guards who although received us with respect; didn't seem to like our presence here. Also, before I forget, looking at the fishmen and merpeople was like a dream: it just didn't feel real. The way they moved and communicated and even appeared felt like someone would slap me back to reality and tell me that the was CGI or something. However, that wasn't a thought I was ready to say outloud before getting slandered as a racist or what-not.

We followed the kingdom's guards to what I assumed was the Royal Palace. I mean, duh, it was the Royal Palace. It was the largest building on the whole damn island. We entered the Palace and followed the guards through a long hallway that took us right to the throne room. In the throne room a gigantic merman sat there. He had a bushy ginger beard that covered his mouth and had a trident in his grasp. The king of Fishman Island looked at the crew for a moment, before landing his eyes at me and lastly Whitebeard. Pops decided to initiate conversation with Neptune, "It's been a while, King Neptune. How've you been?" Neptune made a smiling expression at him, I couldn't tell because his mouth was covered by his beard. King Neptuned replied in like fashion "I've been doing well Whitebeard, How about yourself? You have gathered yourself quite the crew members." He said the last part looking at me directly. 'Why does this guy keep looking at me?' I wouldn't know till later on that I was giving off quite the perculiar aura.

To King Neptune's remark, Pops gave of a hearty laugh that the King joined him in. Whitebeard finally stopped laughing after a few moments and said to the king in a rather serious tone, "I'm only trying to bring under my wing as many as I can before the inevitable happens. It would be best if you close down your borders in the near future! Change is happening, and it will shake the world!!" Pops' declaration made the everyone in the throne room grow quiet. While others were confused as to what he meant, my mind was racing at the implication of his words. 'It's finally happening! The incident that would spell the end of the Rocks Pirates!! The God Valley Incident!!!' Had Whitebeard already been in contact with Roger in order for this to happen? Was he actually planning on joining him to take down Xebec, his own Captain?? Jesus, the possibilities that were running through my head were just suffocating.

To this comment, King Neptune looked at Whitebeard with a solemn gaze. As if he already knew what he was talking about, "Very well, I will take your advice into consideration, in the near future that is." There was a tense silence that followed that statement, only to be followed by hearty laughter from the both of them. After a brief conversation of his plans in Fishman Island and some other trivial matters. We finally left the Royal Palace, and I could finally ask him the question that was prodding my mind like spear.

"Are you finally...going to betray....him?" I had to make sure that we were alone in order to ask. I didn't want a loudmouth exposing a secret that could possibly set the world on fire if it knew. Whitebeard looked at my lazy expression and took a deep sigh before responding, "The battle is going to happen a month from now, I will not betray my captain.....however, I won't help him either. I want you to take the crew members somewhere safe." He looked at me with eyes of great expectation, Pops last request had me puzzled for a bit so I had to ask. "Why....do you trust me.....so much?" I looked at Whitebeard curiously. I had only been sailing with him for a few months now, I spent most of my time either napping or daydreaming around the ship because there were always crewmates who knew how to keep the ship operable. So, logically speaking, I should not be someone that would be considered 'trustworthy' in his eyes.

To that question, Whitebeard gave off a hearty laugh, "You are my son! How can I not trust you?!" Once again, I looked at him, absolutely speechless. I never pinned Whitebeard as someone that could be naive,'Is he messing with me?' I thought about it for a moment, weighing out the pros and cons of staying away from The God Valley Incident, till the cons outweighed the pros. My initial goal was to observe in real time how the story line went down. I would be a fool to miss out on one of the most contriversal battles in One Piece history. So, looking Whitebeard right in the eye. I said, "I refuse."
