Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Dark Demon Scorns Traps
“Is there a floor plan of the library?”
Dark took out the Selection Card and injected mana into it.
The Selection Card sensed his thoughts and displayed the floor plan of the library on its surface.
Saint Maryann Academy’s library was only one story high, but every bookshelf was terrifyingly tall.
The academy used physical isolation methods, placing deeper and more profound books higher up.
Without the ability to fly, one could never reach those profound books.
But Dark’s familiar had wings—this was an advantage!
Although it was supposed to replace the “owl” as a familiar, most students’ familiars did not have wings and couldn’t fly, which was quite embarrassing.
Dark found the area marked with “familiar” on the library floor plan and immediately walked over.
The difference between a familiar and a general magic golem lay in their extended existence outside the magic card, requiring no additional mana from their owner.
Magic golems, however, were limited by time and would eventually disappear once their mana ran out.
Moreover, magic golems had an intelligence level of 2, lower than familiars, belonging to the inferior construct category.
Due to the library’s vast size, despite having the floor plan, Dark still spent nearly ten minutes finding the bookshelf labeled with “familiar.”
This entire shelf contained materials related to familiars!
“Does this mean I have to search for myself now?”
Dark couldn’t help but look up.
The height of the bookshelf seemed endless.
He even thought of describing it as reaching the clouds!
Just within this single bookshelf, there were countless books!
“How am I supposed to find them? Do I have to ask the librarian again?”
“TM, risking a +1 indicator just for homework?”
Dark decided he wouldn’t accept this loss!
So he calmed down and prepared to search from bottom to top slowly.
Imp Beasts belonged to the demon race, so he just needed to find books about the demon race.
But soon he discovered that the books on this shelf were all like “Special Magic Golems and Familiars,” “Familiars and Elementals: The Untold Story,” “Basic Guide to Familiar Creation,” “101 Key Points for Creating a Familiar!”
“Could it be that I’m in the wrong place?”
Dark realized his thinking might be misguided.
Information about Imp Beasts should not be sought in the “familiar” section but directly in the magic card or magic golem sections!
And preferably, in a comprehensive guide like “Elemental Compendium”!
After realizing this, Dark acted decisively, opening the Selection Card to search for the magic golem专区!
There were dozens of rows of bookshelves labeled with “magic golems”!
“Alright, now it’s not just the ceiling that can’t be seen, but also the front has no end…”
Dark sighed and began his long search.
…
It took him a full half hour to find a hidden copy of “Into the Abyss” among thousands of books.
His almost hopeless heart suddenly became active, and he quickly pulled out the two-inch-thick book, flipping through it hastily.
It had a table of contents!
Starting from page two, it listed over a thousand demons!
Dark didn’t take the book to the reading room but stood in front of the bookshelf to read.
Flipping back to the first page, a short sentence caught his eye.
“Into the abyss, gaze into the abyss.”
Dark intended to skip it, but suddenly his eyes blurred, and the words began to tremble, then transformed into another language he recognized but had never seen before; “This method… is ancient cryptic script?”
Ancient cryptic script was a magical script used by demons in ancient times to encrypt knowledge, with encryption levels ranging from 1 to 12, requiring corresponding demon bloodlines to decipher.
In this world, it was a unique encryption method!
Dark didn’t know what sequence his current bloodline belonged to, nor did he understand the encryption level of this magical script.
But it didn’t hinder him from understanding these words.
“Dispel the mist, reveal the truth, the full moon will guide you.”
…
Dark blinked, then scoffed and turned to the table of contents.
Then, following the alphabetical order, he found the demonic compendium titled “Imp Beast.”
After all, this was just a first-year assignment in Magic Guidance Class. Dark suspected Professor Shylph merely wanted them to learn how to search the library.
Because this compendium clearly detailed information about Imp Beasts, copying it would complete the assignment.
He took out paper and pen and quickly copied the details.
Imp Beasts belonged to the demon race, with the dark attribute. In the demon hierarchy, they were classified as the “Twelfth Sequence: Familiars,” the lowest-ranking inferior demons.
The compendium described them as trash among demons, mischievous brats with no power but skilled in intrigue and flattery towards higher demons, surviving in the demon realm by groveling.
No upper-class demons!
If it were a magic golem.
Imp Beasts had a rating of one star, with 100 mana, attack and defense data both at 100, and their ultimate skill was to shoot a giant syringe, extracting the opponent’s blood with a “mini dart,” consuming 50 mana.
As a familiar, Imp Beasts had fixed attack and defense data of 100 each, with 100 mana, no ultimate skill, but with an added bonus in flight speed and a special familiar skill “tracking.”
Essentially, most familiars had similar data, good for sending messages, replacing owls or cuckoos.
Dark quickly finished copying the data and placed “Into the Abyss” back on the shelf.
Then he picked up a nearby “Magic Golem Collection” and entered the reading room.
There was no homework for Magic Guidance or Potion Classes, leaving the afternoon until bedtime free.
New students liked to wander around the academy after finishing their homework or play some games in the common room.
Some preferred to rush their assignments after indulging in fun.
Dark had no interest in exploring the castle, nor did he want to socialize much, making the library the perfect place for him.
Using the corner tea set, he poured himself a specially blended tea with balanced aroma and placed it on a small table, then opened “Magic Golem Collection,” reading it with the mindset of flipping through entertainment magazines.
Dark felt deeply that this laid-back lifestyle suited him best.
In such a large Saint Maryann Academy, only this tiny corner provided him with peace.
Excellent…
Not only did his capital sin indicators not increase, but they decreased by one point in “Wrath” and one point in “Sloth.”
