The Walking Dead: A New Beginning From the End of the World

Chapter 147: The Station Part 6

In the dimly lit room, only a small window in the farthest corner was slightly open, and sunlight streamed through the narrow gap, illuminating a nearby area.

The smooth gray floor tiles were covered with large streaks of blood, and the rest of the walls and other surfaces were also splattered with blood.

On the recliner inside lay the corpse of a naked woman. Her limbs had been severed, and a long cut with a sharp knife ran down the middle of her chest and abdomen.

There was a dark purple strangulation mark on the woman's neck—she had obviously been strangled to death. Her wide-open eyes were filled with disbelief; even she couldn't believe she would die like this. On her forehead was a "W" that had likely been carved with a knife.

Next to the loungers were dismantled tables and chairs, many scattered books, and a campfire with only burnt charcoal remaining.

On either side of the fire were two racks where "body parts" cut into sections were roasting, and a pile of fragmented "white human objects" lay scattered beside them.

Faced with the scene, no matter how strong Jason's psychological fortitude was, he couldn't help but be stunned. The wolves were actually "eating" "people" now!

After recovering from the horror, he fought back the urge to vomit, averted his gaze from the horrific scene inside the building, and looked again at the two male corpses at the door.

He hadn't noticed that the faces of the two corpses were covered in blood until that moment, but when Jason looked closer, he found their heads had been shot through, the blood dried. The "W" mark on their foreheads made his fury erupt.

Jason had to examine each person's face to see if any of them looked familiar. Although he was currently responsible for many members of the wolves, he had to find out if things had changed.

Slowly walking toward the corpses, Jason sighed with a strange feeling, and at that moment, he wanted nothing more than to hunt the wolves to the ends of the Earth. However, he knew better than anyone that he couldn't do that—it would be a pointless chase right now.

For the moment, what comforted him was that they had wiped out a large number of people, and these wolves shouldn't cause too much trouble until they regained their original numbers.

Bending down to one corpse, he pulled a photo from one of their hands and shone his flashlight on it. The faces were unfamiliar, and the only thing on that corpse's body was an unloaded pistol.

Then Jason noticed something painted on the wall behind them. Slowly raising his flashlight to illuminate the two walls, he saw a sentence written on the first wall: Wolves Not Far!

Turning off the flashlight, and recalling the contents of the room combined with the note he received on the first floor, he knew what had happened inside without needing to guess.

This place was nothing more than a small refuge where these people had been staying while trying to survive. The wolves must have found this room with three people inside, killed them, and then marked them. When they finished their work, they began to eat, and just as they finished, they must have heard the sound of the convoy's engines.

Although they hadn't expected the convoy's force to be so strong, they began to shoot uncontrollably, injuring Ravi Kapoor. The guilt and despair could be felt in this room. After all, the people who had originally been here were only trying to survive.

Without hesitation, the wolves chose to murder these people and proudly marked their motto on the wall, which meant they would never be forgiven. Whenever Jason encountered one of their members, he was certain he would end their life without asking what they had done.

Jason put away the flashlight, covered the corpses with a blanket, and regretted not having more time to do anything else.

Then he walked to the door of that building, closed the two glass doors that were open, and at the same time lifted the hanging lock and locked it. It was better not to let others see the scene inside this room.

"Are you okay?" Jason turned to Daryl and looked at him silently.

"Yes, let's get out of here." Daryl was waiting for Jason to leave that place as soon as possible. He had just experienced firsthand how horrible the wolves could be, and now his mentality had hardened.

...

In the main lobby.

When Jason returned to the first floor, outside the department stores, Jon was reaching out to say something over the radio, and then the modified RV slowly appeared before his eyes.

"Boss, you're coming down!"

Jon, who was leading the convoy to the parking lot outside the building, heard the sounds coming from the door and saw Daryl walking outside with Jason.

But then, as if thinking of a bad memory, Jon's recovered expression suddenly grew grim again.

Seeing this, Jason shook his head helplessly, stepped forward, patted Jon on the shoulder, and said with a calm look, "Don't overthink it. This kind of situation probably won't happen often in the future. Just get used to it slowly."

"I understand! I've seen hell itself, but this was something I couldn't have imagined."

Nodding with difficulty, Jon shook his head. Without allowing himself to dwell too much, he turned around and continued guiding the convoy outside.

After advising Jon, Jason turned his gaze to the modified RV, three large buses, and two vans heading toward them. He stretched out his hand to check the time on his watch and then said, "Jon, make sure everyone waits and gets ready to leave at any moment. We need to load the resources those people left behind here."

Daryl didn't hesitate and began walking toward the wolves' vehicles, opening the trunk. Inside were weapons and clothes, water, medicine, and canned food that were most likely being saved and not used unless necessary.

"Guys, did you find anything important here?" Glenn approached Daryl and the others with a slight smile.

"There wasn't much, nothing major, and apparently, this place isn't their refuge." Jason said casually.

Glenn looked confused and asked directly, "If this isn't their refuge, then whose is it? It's crazy that those guys paint a 'W' on their foreheads. They must be sick in the head to do that."

"Ugh!"

Daryl slammed the door shut and looked at Glenn with a cold expression. This guy tended to ask delicate questions at the worst moments.

"Did I say something wrong?" Glenn watched Daryl walk past him and was even more confused than before.

"They were cannibals. This place belonged to other people, and I think you can imagine what we found inside." Jason approached Glenn and looked at him with a complicated expression.

"They eat people?" Glenn's exaggerated shout chilled Jason, who was carrying some important resources, and caught the attention of everyone who had also come down to help.
