Chapter 462: The Night Of Storm
(From Blue's Perspective)
Luc's note was confusing. At that time, I did not understand the meaning of it. But soon, I did.
That night, I went to bed rather early. Ruby kind of forced me to do so because she thought sleeping early would help with my health.
I fell asleep quickly. But I woke up, hearing a noise by the bedside. The room was dark and it was raining outside with occasional flashes of lightning. Just when a bolt of lightning hit somewhere near, my room was bright for a second or two, and in the meantime, I saw a figure, a very known figure.
I thought I was dreaming, or perhaps hallucinating. But it was proven wrong when he touched my face slowly, seeing me awake.
I was silent. The harsh breathing of two people filled the room and it was like I could not hear the rain at all.
His face got closer and closer. I closed my eyes. I felt his breath on my face and not long after, felt his lips on mine.
It must be who Luc told me to wait a bit. He knew my husband would visit me that very same night.
"Dem…," I whispered as I pulled back from the kiss.
He did not say anything and kissed me again. It was soft and gentle, full of love. It was he who pulled back from the second kiss and stared into my eyes.
"I heard you are sick," he said.
"I am not," I said. "It was just cramps."
"Was it?"
"Yes…," I nodded. "Is that why you have come? Have you come to see me?"
"I don't have any other reason, my love. How can I come for something else?" he muttered. "But was it really just cramps? I got so worried."
"I wrote you that. I got so worried that time. But it turned out to be perfectly normal," I said. "But why didn't you write to me? I was really anxious, you know, when I do not hear from you. I expect the worse of all things and it is really…"
"I won't lie. I actually wrote three letters on three different days, but two of them got destroyed as my tent was caught on fire by a dumb fucker."
"Who?" I asked. "You didn't get hurt, did you?"
I started checking the visible parts of his body in the dark. He was wearing his armor, but it was cleaner than I expected. I actually thought it would be blood-soaked.
"It was someone from the enemy line," he replied. "And no, I did not get hurt."
In my mind, I always wondered how we would act when we would meet once a month. I imagined we would kiss and embrace each other because of how less we could meet.
But in reality, nothing went as I imagined and it was just yet another proof that reality was very different.
We just lay down on the bed together and talked. He took off his armor and wiped his body with a wet towel and lay down with me, just to talk. I did not hate it. The calmness and the peace of mind I felt were beyond anything.
"The other letter was not exactly destroyed. I left it on the table but when I came back, it was gone. No one was to enter my tent in my absence and I have no idea how it happened. Luc did not enter either. Regardless to say, he is also not allowed to enter my tent, but he does, as that brat never listens," he said. "I wrote the third letter and thought of visiting you myself, rather than sending it.
I was going to come here yesterday, but I met the shadow and he had some information to give that I needed to give Luc as soon as possible." Discover exclusive tales on empire
"I actually took a shower and cleaned my armor and everything before coming here. I had been in a dirty place and I was dirty enough, judging my regular routine. I did not want you to see me in that state, at least not when I had the time to clean up," he continued.
"I would not mind that."
"No, it is not okay. Darling, you need to stay safe and clean. I would not want to cause any harm by coming that way to you," he said. "That said, you told me about King Ford's illness. What happened to that guy?"
"Well, he had a high fever, you know. You got angry at me for taking care of him, but I could not sit still when he was in that state. He is here because of me, right? I cannot ignore him when he is sick," I said. "It happened because of the change of weather. Many people tend to get sick this time of the year."
"You do too."
"Yeah… He said it happens almost every year," I said.
"It looks like he made some problems after coming here, but okay. He is still of help," he said. "And about your want to bring Abel here…"
"Can't I? I think it will be okay," I said. "Then again, Flint and Evan think otherwise."
"They are right, albeit they might sound heartless," he said. "I feel the same. It is not a good idea to bring someone here who cannot be useful and would most probably be a burden because of his condition. It will be better to put him somewhere safe in the capital. It will be better for both him and us."
"I suppose you are right."
"I will send the beta a letter," he said. "I will stay here two days. Luc kept nagging, you know. He was like, 'You got a pregnant wife who is sick right now. Go right away. Take care of my sister.' It was not like I did not plan to come. I planned it quite a long time ago and he was just too much."
I chuckled. Luc was the type of friend and brother everyone wanted, but few could get. He was caring, trustworthy, fun to be with, and dependable. Ruby was quite lucky to have him as her mate.
Luc was equally lucky though to have Ruby.
