Chapter 466: When A Powerful Man Gets Scared For His Love
(From Blue's Perspective)
It was not surprising how Dem did not find any special reason to say why he liked me in the first place. It just happened. There was not much of a reason. It was just another proof that love could happen unexpectedly and there might not be much of a reason. He always said he had a reason, at least one. But I knew he was wrong.
He never had a reason.
But I did.
I fell in love with him because he was the first person who actively took part in caring for me, going as far and beyond for my sake, and loving me unconditionally. Although I trusted Dem that he fell for me at first sight, I did not understand this thing much. How could someone even fall for someone they had just met without knowing anything about them?
We actually first met a long time ago, but since Dem's mind was being controlled at that time and he barely remembered anything, we considered our first meeting two days before my eighteenth birthday.
In my world, our relationship had been creepy since I was a minor and he was much older than me. But in this world, it was considered normal, since women became adults at sixteen. That was why Dem even thought of me romantically.
We reached the dining hall a while later, after getting ready. I was still a little sleepy, but for my husband's sake, went to have breakfast. Everyone was surprised, but not as much as they would have if they had no idea beforehand. However, they did as they had heard from the maids who would never keep their mouths shut about something like this.
"It is a surprise, Your Highness, to find you here suddenly," Ruby said.
"Why didn't Your Highness send a word beforehand?" Perita asked. She did not know how to talk when talking to a certain person. I still could not teach her that part as she was childishly stubborn. But I still adored her.
"Why would I need to send a word beforehand to come to my own place?" Dem grumbled.
"King Demetrius has got a point. He has done nothing out of ordinary," Evan said. "If anything, I suppose, he wanted to surprise his wife."
"Dem did surprise me," I added, taking a seat by him while Dem sat on the other side of me. "I was so surprised last night when I saw him. I was so sleepy, but when I saw him, it all went away."
"Is Your Highness hurt in any way?" Ruby asked. She was always concerned about everyone's health and I liked that about her. Everyone needed a very caring friend.
"No. I'm fine," Dem said.
"And what about Luc? He said he is not hurt, but I cannot calm down. Is he okay?"
Ruby looked very desperate and worried. She needed some sort of confirmation to make sure that Luc was truly fine and only then, she could finally relax.
"He is alright. He got hurt a little, but that was like the kind of knee scrape we used to get as a kid. It got better within a moment, thanks to the medicine of the doctor. He is overall really okay. If anything, he might be eating more than usual whenever he gets time." Continue your adventure with empire
Ruby sighed in relief. Dem mentioned nothing about Luc growing out a beard because even though they fought with each other all the time, in the end, they were best friends and they had some kind of understanding between them.
That was very sweet and admiring.
Evan and Dem talked about something regarding the war for quite a long time. It kind of surprised me because Dem rarely talked to someone for that long. I listened to them while eating. The banana pancake was too good. Sometimes when I took a bite, I almost did not hear anything else as I could focus on how good it was.
I never added maple syrup to my pancakes and told the chef to add sugar beforehand. My ones were made that way while the others added maple syrup or any syrup of their choice. The thought of adding any sweetening after the food was cooked did not sit well with me.
Ruby had a jar of pickle open in front of her. She liked pickles. 'Like' probably was not the right word to use with it. She ate them every morning, every noon, and every night. It was weird how much she liked it. She literally was obsessed with it.
I never could understand how someone could like it.
Perita was eating as if her life depended on it. She always ate that way and even if I told her to slow down, she would not listen. Calix was having an almost silent conversation with Doctor Dimitri. Both of them were the quiet type.
After having breakfast, Dem and I went to the library so Dem could read the letter Luc sent him and I could just be with him. The little time he would be with me, I wanted to spend all of that time with him.
It took him only a few minutes to read the long letter. I had my head on his shoulder while I kept my eyes on the letter. But I could not read it all because I was not as fast as he was. However, the few lines I could read gave me a brief idea of what the letter was about.
"He says everything is going well for now. But he also suspects something."
"Yes?"
"He thinks Mazazine has a different plan as to why the master of the magic tower has not come to the battlefield yet. It is a very weird incident."
"It can happen. I kind of thought of the same thing too after you told me. They should have a plan. Or, it would not happen that the master of the magic tower would not go to the battlefield. What kind of plan does Luc think of them to have?"
"He kind of suspects that it might be related to you."
"Me?" I muttered. Within a second, it kind of made sense.
"You are pregnant. So, it is very natural for them to try to kill, if not you, the child at least, so I would not have an heir. They don't know how less I care about having an heir and we care for the child not because it will be my heir, but because it is our child."
"You cannot blame them, my love. They have been brought up that way. Not everyone can grow up in their own way. They are influenced most of the time," I said. "They think we think that way, even if we don't. They will very naturally try to kill our baby, and probably me too."
"They wanted me to marry someone else, who they could use against me," he said. "They will try to harm you. I will need to increase the knights here. Tonight, I got to do it tonight. I was planning on doing so anyway, so I called for seventy knights here a few days ago who would arrive tonight. But now, I will get two hundred.
Yes, there is no shortage of knights anywhere."
"Babe…"
"Yes, I gotta do this. I got to keep you safe. I cannot be with you at a time like this, so I, at least, need to make sure you are guarded enough," he said, holding my hand tightly. I felt like he was scared of losing me. But when a powerful man gets scared for his love, they would do anything in the world for them, turning that fright into anger and determination.
