The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 500: Desperate

(From Perita's Perspective)

Since I had become the Queen's personal knight, I had liked her. Every day, every moment made me like her even more. I knew she had more to herself than anyone could see. Hell, even she could see herself for what she truly was. But I could. I knew she had more to give, if only she tried.

Even without her power, she would have become a great Queen. A too kind Queen, but a good Queen. Now with her power, she was just… more than perfect. She was the Queen I admired. I had always wanted to serve someone like her, a woman who could fight. As a child, I was forced to have history lessons.

Even as a knight, I had to take those classes. I always wondered how come only a few women could become great. Why were there only men? What if there was a powerful woman who could make men piss their pants?

My Queen was the one I had dreamt of serving. I knew I could not be a Queen. I did not want to be either. I wanted to be a fighter. My twin brother always said Queens were lazy and that was why we did not get a great Queen. But now, it was proven not everyone was lazy.

"Is the tea ready?" I asked, munching on an apple in the kitchen. "I will need to get snacks for her too. Her Highness hasn't eaten anything since last night. Make haste! You think her stomach can handle it? She is almost nine months, my gosh.

Quick!"

"Yes, yes, just a moment."

The delivery date was approaching, but Her Highness was working too much these days. However, she took breaks several times, so she would not use too much power at a stretch. She was making something. Just last night, she handed me a small bottle and told me to carefully deliver it to her brother. I was the only person who knew exactly where the cottage was where the King was placed.

He was in a coma at this moment and I had to admit I took a huge shock when I got the news. Her Highness was hopeful that she would be able to save him, but I was not too sure. I never believed in luck, so the chance of him surviving seemed very low to me.

After the breakfast was ready, I took it to Her Highness's workshop. She used a room adjacent to the library since she needed to go there a lot. The guards bowed as I entered the room. She was sweating. These are the moments I needed to act.

I placed the breakfast on a small table and quickly went to her and grabbed her, so she would not get dizzy.

"Your Highness, that's a limit," I said and she nodded. Although she was shaking and looked extremely exhausted, she was beaming. Her blue eyes were shining. "Did something… good happen?"

She turned to me and smiled. "This morning, Cyan sent me a letter. I might have succeeded making the poisonous gas," she said. "If I truly made the exact same gas that poisoned Dem, making an antidote will be easy."

"Ah, that's good," I said. "And what about these corpses that you are working with?"

She got the knights bring her corpses of the people who had recently died and did not have any relative. She would cut their eyes out and examine them. I did not understand what she was doing, but it looked like she was trying to understand the structure of it or something.

She would get huge books from Lord Luc, who always delivered them at midnight and both of them would sit in her workshop, flipping through the pages of those books. Lady Ruby would sometimes join them to massage Her Highness's legs, or make tea for them. Lord Luc would go back and forth from the palace and the cottage.

He was working with Her Highness's brother and Doctor Dimitri and also helped Her Highness with her work. Every single one of them worked too hard. They pushed their power and body to the limit.

No matter what kind of person His Highness was, he was a capable king and some peoples' good friend. They wanted him back in any way. I was the same. I wanted the King back even if sometimes I did not like the way he behaved. I respected him, his ambitions and his unconditional love for his wife.

"I am not sure… I had taken both work together, but I focused more on the poisonous gas as it was too important. They could not figure out the structure even if they could separate the blood and the poison, at least that's something we thought. However, it seemed they could not entirely separate it. That's why I wanted to try making it.

I made three types of gas, but they were not the ones that was in his blood, so I tried mixing the first one with the second, the first one with the third, the second one with the third, and only after I took twenty percent of the first one, thirty of the second and forty percent of the third one along with a type of herb that I got that gas. I am pretty sure I have made the correct one.

Cyan thinks so too. They are seeing if it's truly the one."

I led her to sit down in front of the table where her breakfast was placed. She washed her hands in a bowl of water and dug in quickly. She was supposed to be hungry anyway.

"But how do you know which ingredients to use?" she asked.

"That's something I am not sure. I just do. When I take a look at something, or just get to know what kind of work they do, how much damage they cause, or just how it works, I figure it out what ingredients to use," she said. "It must be because all the books I read are stored in my head. I remember everything." Find more to read at My Virtual Library Empire

"Lord Cyan remembers everything too. But you still are better at making this," I said.

"Cyan said I am a natural, but I am not sure that's the case," she said, taking a small bite of her fish sandwich. No matter how hungry she was, she always took very small bites. "I am just desperate. I don't have time to learn slowly. When you are desperate, trust me, you can do anything."
