The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 508: Aren't You Brave?

(From Evan's Perspective)

"No matter how much you care for your kingdom, you cannot fight in this state," I said as we ran through the corridor with Perita leading us.

"I am not going to fight like this anyway. I need to go somewhere… Damn it, take me to the underground servants' quarters. Perita, are you listening?"

"Yes, Your Highness. Just follow me," Perita said.

"Hold on for as long as you can. Tell the mages to hold onto the barrier. Increase mages from all sides. They might start killing general people, so give a command to the knights across the capital," Blue commanded one of the knights we found. "Go! We must win!"

"Yes, Your Highness," the knight bowed and ran quickly to the other knights, commanding loudly. I could see the way his chest puffed up with pride. He was determined to win, now that the Queen had commanded him directly.

I could see Blue groaning in pain every now and then as she tried to keep up. "Let me carry you," I said and she shook her head.

"The stairwell leading to the servants' quarters is awfully dark. You will trip," she said.

I shook my head in disbelief. How could she think so less of my ability? But then again, the Blue I loved did not really think the best of me. She knew I was capable, but she believed I could make mistakes too. Everyone could make mistakes.

We all sensed it, so right before we went near one of the windows, we ducked. I shielded Blue's body with mine.

"Don't mess up, you dumb fuckers!" Perita shouted. She was quickly on her feet and at the window, her head out and she was looking up, probably at the guilty knights who accidentally dropped a bomb.

"Our own knights will get us killed before my damn father does!" Blue grumbled and pushed herself onto her feet. No, she was not strong enough for all of this, at least, not physically.

I picked her up in my arms and she did not say anything this time. She was in too much pain to protest.

"You are not hurt?" I asked. There was not much time to check her body, especially after we entered the dark stairwell.

"I cannot focus on exactly which part is hurting," she said. "Anyway, don't talk and just focus on your step. You must not fall."

"I will not fall, my dear friend," I said.

"Don't be so confident about this, Evan. I don't trust anymore."

The servants' quarters were not exactly servants' quarters. It was just a hidden passageway, leading to a chamber used for secret meetings. We had entered through the mouth of a barrel in the wine cellar. If someone opened this particular barrel among the countless barrels in the cellar, they would be greeted with grapes, used for making wine. However, it was just an illusion.

They would find that out only after going through the grapes, which were nothing, but a layer of air. We were pretty much out of sight here. But at this moment, what was the point of being out of sight? I was a King who had not married, or had a child, or had seen someone give birth. There was Perita who was a knight with a child's spirit. She admitted to never having seen giving birth before either.

And there was Blue who were a Queen and a first-time mother, who was literally panting, clutching her huge stomach.

What were we supposed to do?

I was panicking. I had not panicked like this in a long time. Hell, I had never panicked like this.

"Blue, uh… How are you feeling?" I asked.

She glared at me. "Definitely a question worth asking when you can see my state," she snarled. Her mood was not good. Obviously, she would not talk sweetly when she was in so much pain. Was she in labor? It was a question I did not want to ask.

There was no point.

She was definitely in labor and I was afraid of what I was going to do.

She sat down on the floor. It was full of rocks and stones.

"Blue, at least, let's go to the chamber…"

"No, I can't," she panted and looked at Perita. "Go and lead the knights. Or, they might throw yet another bomb on my head. Make sure you don't die, and the barrier… Tell Luc, to lead the mages and hold the barrier."

Perita bowed and kissed Blue's knuckles. "I will not fail you, my Queen."

Perita vanished into thin air. I realized she used a teleportation device.

"I gave her that," Blue said, seeing my surprised demeanor.

"Blue… I will get Doctor Dimitri right now," I said. Although I did not want to leave her alone, there was no other choice. I was no doctor and none of us knew what to do, or how to do.

"No…!" she quickly said. And to my horror, started to take off her undergarment. These days, she wore dresses resembling nightgowns as she said she could go into labor at any moment and scandalous dresses surely would not help her with giving birth. She pulled the gown up to her knees. Her face was red and sweaty. "Please."

I crouched by her side. I wanted to see her naked, but definitely not like this. Now, it did not even excite me. I just wanted her to be safe and the child too.

"I don't know what to do. But all I know is… that there is no time. I need to… I at least know I need to push… Gosh!"

The dress fell even lower and her thighs were bare. She clawed the ground and bit onto her lower lip. I quickly pressed her cheeks with my fingers and as soon as she let go of her lower lip, I placed the side of my hand in her mouth. Better biting on my hand than her lips and tongue. She would injure herself.

I squeezed her hand and gave her a reassuring nod. "Go on. You can do it. Aren't you brave? You can do it," I said.
