The White Space
Chapter 10 The White Space
The teacher and Kailey found themselves in a vast, white space with only a table and chair occupying a small portion of the area. They couldn't see any way out of the place. The teacher took the initiative and began exploring the area. After walking in a straight line for a few minutes, she came across the table and chair again. Indicating the space they were in was limited and had a spherical shape. Since these objects were the only visible things aside from Kailey and herself, the teacher examined both to see if they held any clues to escape from this white space.
Before the sudden location change, the teacher had been dragging Kailey around. Due to that, the teacher was brought along with Kailey and found themselves in this strange place. To Kailey, the room resembled a place for signing contracts, with nothing to distract them except maybe for the furniture. Kailey sat on one side of the table while waiting for the teacher to finish her inspection. When she completed her inspection, the teacher sat on the other side of the table across from Kailey. Suddenly, the surroundings transformed into a beautiful pond surrounded by flora, resembling something from a nature reserve.
The sudden change in scenery surprised both Kailey and the teacher. Kailey was grateful for the breathtaking view after the blank emptiness they had experienced before. However, the teacher became even more cautious. Before long, a scroll appeared out of nowhere and floated above the table before descending to lay flat on the table. The scroll contained the same contract the witch hat had spoken of earlier. The teacher carefully examined the contract, searching for clues to understand the situation. After reading it, the teacher realized it was similar to a Words of Power contract. But with a crucial difference. This contract required the contractor to sign an agreement, giving the tool a fragment of their soul.
The contract employs a fragment of the contractor's soul to give the tool a superficial soul. It supposedly enables the object to instinctively aid its contractor in battle or facilitate their learning and improvement of abilities, similar to muscle memory. However, if the contract process fails, it could permanently damage the user's soul. It would undoubtedly significantly weaken the contractor, as the soul serves as the source of energy from which the body and raw magical talent derive their power.
