The Young Matriarch

Chapter 213 - 213 Hanging in Midair

Chapter 213: Chapter 213 Hanging in Midair

The attic seemed to be inhabited solely by Bai Chuwei, so it was very quiet up there.

As Tong Yunrou ascended to the attic, she faintly detected the bitter scent of traditional medicine permeating the third floor. She instinctively covered her nose, her expression one of distaste.

Because Xue Qiu was active around the house, Bai Chuwei hadn’t locked the door.

With a gentle twist of the doorknob, Tong Yunrou found it could be opened, and her heart leaped with joy. She could get in.

Xue Qiu, who was inside frantically gobbling up potato chips, was utterly shocked. Did she really dare to come in?

Tong Yunrou cautiously pushed open the door and proceeded inside, her gaze anxiously scanning the décor of Bai Chuwei’s bedroom.

It was no different from an ordinary female student’s bedroom: a single small bed, a desk by the balcony, and beside it, a bookshelf.

Other than the potent smell of traditional medicine, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Tong Yunrou’s eyes suddenly landed on the desk where an unusually white-furred hamster was staring at her, its gaze nearly making Yunrou’s legs give way in fright.

“It’s just a hamster,” Tong Yunrou murmured to herself, patting her chest. She didn’t give a second thought to such an unknowing little pet.

But then she saw Bai Chuwei’s homework neatly placed on the desk, with several completed little paper figures lying beside it.

In an instant, Ting Yunrou’s heart started pounding like a drum — that was Bai Chuwei’s homework left at home…

If she could compare the handwriting, she would undoubtedly be able to recognize it!

Since they were aunt and niece, Bai Chuwei bore a striking resemblance to Bai Chu, but their handwriting couldn’t possibly be the same, right?

Tong Yunrou swallowed hard and began stepping toward Bai Chuwei’s desk, her heartbeat quickening with each step.

A cascade of thoughts raced through her mind. And just as Tong Yunrou reached the front of the desk, she suddenly felt the ground beneath her feet go soft.

Soft?

The floor was made of wood. How could it be soft?

The next moment, darkness enveloped Tong Yunrou’s vision.

In Bai Yinyin’s second-floor bedroom, Tong Qingyan and Bai Yinyin had just exited the dressing room in their bridesmaid dresses. Bai Yinyin, lifting her gown, looked around the room with a puzzled expression: “Where’s Aunt Tong?”

No sooner had Bai Yinyin spoken than a scream echoed from the attic on the third floor —

“Ah — Help me!”

Tong Qingyan’s face changed slightly: “That’s my aunt!”

Bai Yinyin appeared even more astonished. Why had Tong Yunrou gone up to the attic?

The two girls hurried up to the attic, holding up their long bridesmaid dresses. But when they pushed open the door to Bai Chuwei’s bedroom and looked inside —

Bai Yinyin and Tong Qingyan were dumbfounded.

What was going on?

Tong Yunrou had been caught in a silver net and was hanging high in the center of the attic. No matter how much Yunrou struggled, she couldn’t escape.

Exhausted from the struggle, Tong Yunrou yelled at Bai Yinyin and Tong Qingyan, “What are you standing there for? Hurry up and help me!”

Tong Yunrou felt like she was going to lose her mind. She hadn’t even had the chance to look at Bai Chuwei’s homework when suddenly she got trapped by a large net and hoisted into mid-air.

Caught in the act.

Bai Yinyin and Tong Qingyan searched the room to no avail, unable to find a way to release Yunrou, standing below helplessly.

Bai Yinyin internally rejoiced that her usual fear of Bai Chuwei kept her from going up to the attic when it wasn’t necessary.

Tong Yunrou, somewhat incredulous, asked, “You can’t get me down?”

Tong Qingyan responded with a hint of helplessness, “Auntie, we can’t find the button.”

It was as if the net had appeared out of nowhere.

The image of Tong Yunrou caught in the net and hanging in the middle of the bedroom was no different than being apprehended like a thief.

Annoyance flitted across Tong Yunrou’s face, “Hurry and find scissors to cut me down!”
