The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 561 - 561 Injured

Chapter 561: Chapter 561 Injured

Ling Ruonan hadn’t noticed her surroundings; it was only when Luo Ziling slowed down his pace that she realized something was wrong.

“What’s wrong?” She too became immediately alert.

“Danger,” Luo Ziling grabbed Ling Ruonan and dodged to the side, planning to take cover near the roadside trees, using them to shield their bodies.

But his reaction was still a beat too slow. Just as he shielded Ling Ruonan and before he could fully dodge, he felt a sharp pain in his back as if something heavy had struck him hard.

Clutching Ling Ruonan in his arms, he couldn’t help but stagger and almost fell.

Fortunately, his reflexes were quick. When danger approached, he had already dodged. When the heavy object hit him, his body had already turned, so the object hit him at an angle, changed direction and slid toward the ground.

Immediately, a spark of light appeared on the ground, something bounced, and then disappeared into the darkness.

Luo Ziling hadn’t realized what heavy object had hit him, but he knew for certain they were under attack. However, he had no time to consider this; his only thought was to protect Ling Ruonan’s safety.

So, as he dodged beside the trunk of the roadside tree, sheltering behind its sturdy form, he still kept Ling Ruonan wrapped in his arms.

Wuyue and several other bodyguards who followed behind Ling Ruonan reacted quickly, rushing up to guard her right away. Armed Wuyue reached Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan’s side, using his own body to shield them before whispering, “Miss, Young Master, hurry to the car.”

As Wuyue gave these orders, a car with its headlights on swiftly approached them, screeching to a halt before them.

The car doors opened, and two individuals in black jumped out, moving swiftly close to them and using their bodies to shield Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling. Luo Ziling was still hugging Ling Ruonan and, with Wuyue’s help, he half dragged and half carried Ling Ruonan to the car.

It was only once he sat in the car that Luo Ziling finally exhaled a sigh of relief.

Wuyue also got into the car, taking the passenger seat.

After Wuyue was in the car, he immediately ordered the driver to leave the scene at the fastest speed possible.

The scene was left with only a few black-clad guards. As Ling Ruonan’s car pulled away, a Mercedes saloon drove up from behind, taking position in front of their car, with another car following behind to protect them. The cars raced forward at high speed, the driver skillfully maneuvered through the dense traffic to reach nearly eighty kilometers per hour.

“Wuyue, what exactly happened?” Once Ling Ruonan was in the car, she calmed down and sternly interrogated Wuyue, “Who attacked us?”

“Miss, their target is likely you. They might have used a sniper rifle,” Wuyue honestly answered. She was following behind Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan in the night, so she wasn’t able to see everything clearly and could only speculate based on her judgment.

Upon hearing that a sniper rifle might have been used to attack her, Ling Ruonan’s complexion changed again.

But she didn’t ask further and instead ordered Wuyue to call Director He Jianmiao at the city bureau, to inform him of what had just happened and to demand an immediate investigation.

By the time the motorcade sped back to Ling Ruonan’s villa, Wuyue had already detailed the incident to He Jianmiao, mentioning that several of Ling Ruonan’s guards were still at the scene, available for questioning, or he could contact her directly.

After the motorcade stopped in front of the villa, Ling Ruonan didn’t wait for Wuyue to open the door; she pushed the car door open herself and got out.

Her complexion was still ashen, the recent events had filled her with extreme anger.

This wasn’t the first assassination attempt she had faced, and today’s attack wasn’t the most dangerous. What incensed her was that the attackers appeared exactly when she and Luo Ziling were enjoying their time, spoiling all the fun they were having.

That was something she couldn’t tolerate, and murderous thoughts crossed her mind. Fortunately, she and Luo Ziling were unharmed; otherwise, she would have been even more furious, perhaps even calling Director He Jianmiao herself to give him a direct command.

Luo Ziling and Wuyue followed Ling Ruonan into the living room.

But before Luo Ziling could sit down, Wuyue let out a shriek that startled both Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling.

“Young Master, have you been shot?” Wuyue’s voice was trembling. She quickly walked over to Luo Ziling, disregarding everything as she reached out and touched his back.

“What?” Ling Ruonan, who had just sat down, leaped from the sofa like a madwoman, rushing in front of Luo Ziling and asked with a quivering voice, “Wuyue, what’s going on? Ling’er, what’s happened to you?”

However, as she asked the question, she had already seen where Wuyue was touching, and she turned deathly pale with shock.

There was a large hole torn in the back of Luo Ziling’s shirt, charred around the edges. Ling Ruonan didn’t understand what had happened, but the experienced Wuyue immediately deduced that this was the mark of a bullet that had pierced through.

“It’s over,” Wuyue’s hands were shaking, her heart sinking to the bottom, aware that the bullet fired by the assailant must have hit Luo Ziling; otherwise, there wouldn’t be such damage.

“Miss, the Young Master has been hit by a sniper rifle bullet,” Wuyue still braced herself to answer Ling Ruonan’s question.

No sooner had she spoken than Ling Ruonan was paralyzed with fright. She collapsed onto the floor and then struggled to get up, asking Luo Ziling with a sobbing tone, “Ling’er, how are you? Where did the bullet hit?”

And immediately she instructed Wuyue, “Wuyue, prepare the car, let’s go to the hospital right now.”

“Yes, Miss,” Wuyue responded, then added with confusion, “Miss, the Young Master seems to be uninjured.”

“What?” Ling Ruonan was a bit slow to react, “Hit by a bullet and uninjured?”

“Mom, it seems I really am not hurt. The bullet definitely didn’t penetrate,” Luo Ziling reached to scratch the sore spot on his back, and unfortunately, he grabbed Wuyue’s hand that was still checking him for injuries. Startled, he quickly let go. But he immediately understood the reason, “Mom, Sister Wuyue, I’m wearing a bulletproof vest with the latest technology inside; the bullet shouldn’t have gone through.”

Ling Ruonan, overcome with anger and panic, looked tearful. She was discombobulated, but after hearing Luo Ziling’s explanation, she finally calmed down a little.

She inspected the damaged area of Luo Ziling’s shirt thoroughly and only relaxed when she saw that the inner garment had not been penetrated.

But when Ling Ruonan pressed on the damaged area of the outer clothing, Luo Ziling still cried out in pain, startling both Ling Ruonan and Wuyue.

“Ling’er, quickly take off your clothes and let Mom see the injury on your body,” Ling Ruonan’s tears uncontrollably started flowing again.

It didn’t matter if she was hurt, but she couldn’t bear the thought of Luo Ziling being injured.
