The Z Pirates (One Piece/Dragon Ball Crossover)

Chapter 4: 4) Oranges

Hinuba Village was… odd.

Bulma couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something about this place felt off. Not in a dangerous way—at least, not yet—but in the way that made her feel like an outsider looking in, like an exhibit on display for the villagers to curiously poke at.

She stood near the entrance of the small market, watching as people went about their daily business. It wasn't an especially large village, and yet it felt lively in its own way. The people were warm, even friendly, but their stares lingered just a second too long whenever she walked by. She wasn't used to this kind of attention, at least not in this way.

Then again, it wasn't every day a house just popped into existence in the middle of the woods.

Bulma sighed, adjusting the bag slung over her shoulder. It was to be expected. No one in this world had ever seen Capsule technology before. They had ships, cannons, and swords—but anything even remotely futuristic? Non-existent. It was almost baffling. Her house appearing out of thin air was certainly shocking to them.

Goku, of course, was completely unfazed. He took everything in stride like he always did. He treated this strange new world as just another leg of his never-ending journey. While she busied herself gathering information and trying to piece together where exactly they were, Goku had done what Goku did best—train.

She glanced back across the clearing, where the idiot was currently going through his usual martial arts routine, moving through his katas with fluid precision. The villagers had watched him at first, intrigued by his strength, but had eventually just accepted his strange behavior as part of who he was.

Oolong, on the other hand…

Bulma groaned, rubbing her temple. That perverted pig was up to his usual antics again.

More than once, she'd had to drag him away from peeking into windows and snooping where he shouldn't be. The villagers were polite enough to just shake their heads at his behavior, but Bulma wasn't fooled. One of these days, he was going to get himself caught, and she was not going to bail him out.

Not that she could blame him entirely. This world was weird.

She'd thought the people in her own world were strange, but they didn't even compare to what she'd seen so far.

For one thing, the people here were huge.

At first, she thought it was just a handful of exceptionally tall folks, but no. There were men standing at seven feet, eight feet, even some that were easily ten or twelve feet tall. And no one batted an eye at it! It was as if that was normal here.

And the women?

Bulma frowned as she passed by a group of village women chatting outside a small shop. They were… ridiculous.

She wasn't the type to get insecure about her looks. She knew she was attractive. Hell, back home, she was considered gorgeous—but here?

She almost felt average.

It wasn't just that these women were beautiful. They were absurdly curvy, with figures that looked like something out of a comic book. And how the hell were they walking around with waists that small?! It was like someone had just designed them to be the perfect fantasy women, and it was downright unfair.

She wasn't jealous. Nope. Not at all.

Bulma huffed, shaking the thought from her mind.

Instead, she focused on what she'd learned over the past few weeks.

This world wasn't just different in terms of appearance—it was different in every possible way.

First off, the majority of the planet was ocean. There were no vast continents like Earth. Instead, it was made up of countless islands, scattered across the seas like dots on a map. The only major landmass that existed was something called the Red Line, a massive continent that circled the entire planet.

And at the center of it all? The World Government.

That was another thing that baffled her. From what she gathered, this world wasn't run by a collection of independent nations like back home. No, everything was under the rule of an organization—one that controlled everything from politics to the military. The people here spoke about the World Government like it was some kind of untouchable force, an entity that had existed for centuries.

And at the top of that government?

The Celestial Dragons.

Bulma pursed her lips.

From what she had heard, the Celestial Dragons were essentially royalty, but the way the villagers spoke about them made them seem more like gods. They weren't just rulers—they were seen as divine beings, untouchable and above all others.

That in itself was weird, but what really got to her was the sheer difference in technology.

She had seen guns, cannons, and even massive battleships, yet at the same time, the general level of technology was archaic compared to back home. There were no cars, no planes, no mobiles, certainly no Capsule tech. It was as if this world had advanced in all the wrong directions.

The bounty system here was another thing that fascinated her. People didn't just get arrested for crimes—they were hunted for them. The higher the bounty, the more dangerous the criminal. Some of these pirates had bounties in the billions. That was insane. What kind of person did you have to be to be worth that much?!

And yet, despite all of this…

Despite the strange laws, the ridiculous people, the primitive tech, and the fact that they were stranded in a world where pirates ruled the seas…

…a part of her was excited.

She wouldn't admit it out loud, but half her mind was already thinking about exploring.

This world was vast and filled with things she couldn't even begin to understand. If there were giants, mermaids, and fishmen, what else could be out there?

A ship. All they needed was a ship.

Bulma smirked to herself.

It was a crazy idea, and she wasn't entirely sure how she'd convince Goku or Oolong to go along with it, but…

Why not?

After all, they were already here.

Might as well make the most of it. It would be a waste to not explore this new world.

The cool night air rushed past Bulma's face as she gripped the handlebars of her hover bike, following Goku's energetic figure through the sky.

The island of Hinuba stretched out below them, its landscape a mixture of forested hills and open fields dotted with small homes. The soft hum of her bike was the only sound in the night, aside from the occasional rustling of trees swayed by the breeze. Goku, in contrast, was completely silent, his small frame cutting through the air with an ease that made her both impressed and annoyed.

She still wasn't over the fact that he'd just figured out how to fly.

Sure, she'd seen him leap across insane distances before, but after watching Tien literally take off into the sky, Goku had spent the last few days trying to replicate it. And, of course, he'd succeeded. Not with the same precision or speed, but the idiot was actually flying. He'd managed to stay in the air long enough to get the hang of it, and now here he was, leading the way like he'd been doing this his whole life.

"Oi, slow down!" Bulma called out, raising her voice over the wind.

Goku turned mid-air, grinning. "Hurry up, Bulma! You're slow!"

Bulma scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Excuse me?! I'm on a bike! You only just started flying, don't act like you're some kind of expert now!"

Goku just laughed, flipping mid-air before shooting forward again, his orange gi a blur against the dark sky.

Bulma shook her head. The things this kid could do were ridiculous.

Their destination wasn't far—a small neighboring island, home to Gosa Village. She had heard about it from the villagers back in Hinuba. The place had been under Arlong's rule for years, and the people there suffered just as much as everyone else in the Conomi Islands.

But Bulma had another reason for going there.

They needed money.

For now, they had been getting by with Goku's hunting skills, selling off massive animal carcasses to the villagers for a fair amount of this world's currency—Berries. But that wasn't a long-term solution. If they kept at it, the local wildlife would eventually dwindle, and then what?

She needed other ways to make money, and Gosa Village might have something valuable they could take without too much trouble.

And she had a pretty good idea of what that was.

Oranges.

She could still remember the first time she had tasted one of the oranges sold in Hinuba Village. It had been… stale. Dried out, flavorless, nothing like the rich, juicy citrus she was used to. But then she learned the reason why—Arlong and his crew stole the best produce, leaving only scraps for the villagers.

That meant somewhere on these islands, there were still fresh, untouched oranges.

And Bulma wanted them. Oranges meant antioxidants and a glowing skin. She needed them as her diet. She didn't want her skin to suffer from malnourishment. That would be disastrous for her on so many levels.

Ahead, the land shifted, the deep blue of the sea giving way to the darkened green of an orchard. Under the soft moonlight, she could make out the vast expanse of orange trees, their branches heavy with ripe fruit. This was Gosa. The village famous for its oranges. Well, there were other villages famous for oranges too. Gosa was the closest to them.

"Alright, Goku!" she called out as she brought her bike lower. "Time to land!"

Goku twisted mid-air, slowing his descent before touching down lightly on the soft earth. Bulma wasn't as graceful—she had to brake and skid her bike into a stop, kicking up dirt. She cut the engine, hopping off and stretching her arms with a relieved sigh.

The air here was thick with the sweet scent of oranges.

Bulma inhaled deeply, a small, satisfied smile tugging at her lips. This was exactly what she was looking for. These weren't stale, low-quality oranges. These were fresh. The kind Arlong didn't let the villagers have.

"Goku," she said, turning to him. "We're gonna take as many of these as we can carry."

Goku blinked at her. "Huh? Why?"

Bulma resisted the urge to smack him. Did she really have to explain everything to him?

"Because they're fresh, you idiot! These are the best oranges in the area, and Arlong doesn't let the villagers have them! That means if we sell them, we can actually make good money!"

Goku tilted his head, looking around at the trees. "But… it's just fruit."

Bulma groaned. "Goku, people pay for good food. A lot of money. You like food, don't you?"

That seemed to click. Goku's eyes lit up. "Oh! So if we get a lot of these, we can eat better food?"

"Exactly!" Bulma grinned. "Now start picking!"

Goku didn't need to be told twice. With ridiculous speed, he shot up into the nearest tree, grabbing oranges by the handfuls. Bulma, meanwhile, pulled out a Capsule, popping it open. In an instant, a storage container appeared, ready to be filled.

"Put them in here!" she called up.

Goku, as usual, overdid it. Instead of carefully picking the fruit, he just started ripping entire branches off the trees.

"Oi, careful, you moron! We need the fruit, not the whole tree!" Bulma shouted.

"But this is faster!" Goku grinned, leaping to another tree and doing the exact same thing.

Bulma facepalmed.

This was going to be a long night.

Goku hovered mid-air, his tail swaying as he reached out and plucked another orange from the tree. He glanced at the fruit in his hand, then tossed it into the basket Bulma had left open on the ground below. This was easy! The trees were full of them, and he could grab a whole bunch in one go.

Just as he was about to move to the next tree, something strange caught his eye.

Nestled among the bright oranges was a different kind of fruit. It was round like an orange, but its surface was covered in odd swirling patterns, and the color was slightly darker. It looked weird.

"Oooooh," Goku muttered, eyes wide with curiosity. Without a second thought, he plucked it from the branch, spinning it in his hand. "This one's funny-looking!"

He glanced down at Bulma, who was busy tapping at some device while muttering to herself.

"Hey, Bulma! Look at this!" Goku called, zipping down and landing beside her.

Bulma glanced up, already looking annoyed. "What now, Goku? We need to hurry up—" She stopped mid-sentence when she saw the fruit in his hands. Her brows furrowed. "Huh?"

Goku handed it over. "Found this up there. Looks kinda like an orange, but not really!"

Bulma held the fruit up to the moonlight, turning it in her hands. It was definitely strange. The swirling patterns almost looked unnatural, and the texture was a bit rougher than a normal orange.

Her scientist brain immediately kicked into gear.

"A hybrid, maybe?" she mused, rubbing her chin. "I mean, this world probably has different variations of fruit. It's not like we're back home anymore…"

Goku tilted his head. "So… can we eat it?"

Bulma hesitated. Normally, she wouldn't eat some random fruit she found in a weird new world. But this was still an orange… right?

"Eh, whatever," she muttered. She'd eaten way worse things on her travels with Goku.

So, without thinking much about it, she took a small bite.

Instantly, her face twisted in horror.

"GAAAH! What the hell is this?!"

The taste was horrendous. Bitter, sour, and just plain wrong. Her tastebuds screamed in protest, her whole body shuddering as she fought the urge to spit it out.

Goku blinked at her, completely unfazed. "Uh… is it good?"

Bulma glared at him. "DO I LOOK LIKE IT'S GOOD?!"

But then, something weird happened.

The terrible taste aside, her body felt… different. There was a sudden warmth spreading through her limbs, almost like she had just drunk a hot cup of coffee, but stronger. No, the feeling was suddenly orgasmic to her body. Her body swelled with a sudden pleasant heat.

It was nice. Comforting, even.

Bulma blinked, staring at the fruit in confusion. Her brain screamed at her to toss it away, but… her body? Her body wanted more. The fruit's effects were strange.

The next thing she knew, she was taking another bite.

Her tongue hated her for it, but the strange sensation in her body only grew stronger.

"What the hell…?" she murmured.

Goku watched with wide eyes. "Uh, Bulma, your face is all scrunched up. You sure it's good?"

Bulma scowled at him. "It tastes like garbage, but… I don't know, I feel kinda… weird."

"Like a good weird?"

Bulma took one last look at the fruit. "Screw it."

Before she could second-guess herself, she stuffed the rest of the fruit into her mouth and swallowed it whole.

The bitterness burned all the way down her throat. She stuck out her tongue in disgust, violently shaking her head. "BLEEEHHHHH! WHY IS IT SO NASTY?!"

Goku just laughed. "You're the one who kept eating it!"

"Shut up, monkey boy!" Bulma swatted the back of his head.

Big mistake.

Her palm bounced off his skull like she had just hit a brick wall.

Bulma yelped, shaking her stinging hand. "OW! Dammit, Goku! What the hell is your head made of, titanium?!"

Goku just rubbed his head, completely unfazed. "You always hit me. Thought you'd be used to it by now."

Bulma grumbled under her breath, still rubbing her sore hand. "Whatever. Just keep picking oranges. We need to get out of here soon."

"Okay!" Goku grinned, immediately flying off to grab more.
