Chapter 60
Chapter 60: The Library Turmoil
In the library, suddenly a loud noise interrupted the study session of several students.
“Hey, it seems like those students over there are from Hikigaya-kun’s class?”
Following Hiyori’s gaze, Hikigaya looked over and indeed saw D-class students, including the troublesome students like Sudo and others. As expected, it was Sudo and Horikita who were having an argument.
Hikigaya had already noticed Horikita and the others before. They had been holding a study session in the library, but what was originally a peaceful study session was now on the verge of turning into a fight.
It was just like the scene at the convenience store when school first started. Sudo was glaring angrily, ready to lash out, while Horikita remained calm, sitting in her chair, completely ignoring the enraged Sudo.
“You’re really getting into other people’s business, what I choose to do has nothing to do with you!”
Sudo slammed his fist on the table, making a loud noise, and students, including Kida, around them were startled.
Yet Horikita seemed completely unfazed. She calmly replied, “It indeed has nothing to do with me. So you can do whatever you want, because it doesn’t affect me at all.”
“You!”
“Heh, actually, I pity you. Every time you encounter a problem, you just try to avoid it and do something easier. Did I say anything wrong?”
The confrontation between Sudo and Horikita was like a collision of fire and ice, and their earlier “reconciliation” was clearly a facade.
“Hikigaya-kun, shouldn’t you go over and help?” Hiyori asked with concern.
“Uh…” Hikigaya wasn’t sure how to explain the situation. There was far more going on here than what met the eye. But since Kida was there, it should be fine. “Let’s just observe for now.”
Horikita must have said something again that further provoked Sudo. His face turned red as he suddenly charged toward Horikita, raising his fist to strike her. Several students nearby gasped in shock.
However… his fist missed, and Sudo, using too much force, collided with the table and chairs. As Sudo, filled with rage, stood up and prepared to charge at Horikita again, Kushida, who was nearby, quickly grabbed Sudo’s arm, stopping him from continuing his violent outburst.
Kushida’s brave action earned her praise and applause from the surrounding students, including Hiyori, though Hikigaya watched the scene with a cold gaze.
“History is truly amazingly similar!” Horikita said, seemingly fearless, with no expression of fear on her face. She contrasted sharply with Sudo, who looked like an enraged gorilla.
“Last time, you mocked me with ‘You’re just a woman,’ and now it’s ‘Studying is useless.’ As expected, a dog’s mouth doesn’t spit out ivory. Even after a month, you haven’t learned a thing. You have a narrow view and only live in your own little world, useless man.”
As soon as Horikita finished speaking, the scene became eerily quiet. It seemed everyone was stunned by Horikita’s ‘ruthlessness.’
“What did you say?! Stinky woman!” Sudo’s face turned beet red, almost like the color of pig liver. It was clear that Horikita’s words had struck a nerve more than the insults about his family.
Sometimes Hikigaya wondered if Horikita had some sort of ‘anti-Sudo weapon,’ because every time she managed to hit Sudo’s ‘pain point,’ with just a simple sentence, Sudo would explode. It was really convenient.
“Look at this! Oh, so it’s the trash from D-class! Hahaha!”
Suddenly, two figures appeared out of nowhere, mocking Sudo, or rather, mocking everyone from D-class, including Horikita.
“Huh? Yamawaki and Ishizaki? They come to the library too?” Hiyori said in confusion, clearly recognizing the two boys who had appeared—they were from C-class.
Ishizaki and Yamawaki seemed like they wanted to escalate things further, walking right up to Sudo. Both had expressions that seemed to invite trouble.
“Ishizaki, I heard D-class used up all their points in the first month. I didn’t believe it at first, but now I do, because D-class lost all their points for hitting women. Hahaha!”
“The trash from D-class, get out of here! Don’t go crazy, especially you, the one who hit a woman. You’re irritating my eyes!”
What was originally a conflict between D-class students had now been stirred up by C-class students. Sudo’s face turned pale, and he was no longer able to tolerate even Horikita’s words. What’s worse, Ishizaki and Yamawaki, both from C-class, were now mocking him to his face.
As expected, Sudo immediately broke free from Kida’s grasp, completely enraged, like an angry gorilla. Without thinking about the consequences, he threw a punch at Ishizaki, the closest target.
“Enough already!” A deep voice suddenly shouted.
Sudo’s raised arm was caught firmly in mid-air by a large hand. The voice was from A-class’s Katsuragi Kouhei, a tall and strong man, whose presence was just as intimidating as Sudo’s, if not more so. With his stern and serious demeanor, he exuded an undeniable aura of authority.
“This is the library, not a place for fighting. This is the basic knowledge all students should follow. C-class and D-class students, I’m truly disappointed. Just because the school has labeled you as defected students, the worst students, doesn’t mean you can just behave like this. It’s not only embarrassing for your own class, it’s also a disgrace to the parents who raised you!”
Katsuragi’s reprimand was powerful. Not only did he scold Sudo and Ishizaki, but he also indirectly criticized the entire C-class and D-class. His words were unassailable.
More importantly, Katsuragi was standing on the ‘right’ side, the moral high ground. By doing so, he branded Sudo, Ishizaki, and the others as ‘vulgar,’ and further reinforced the impression that all C-class and D-class students lacked class and upbringing.
Katsuragi’s intervention was flawless. Even Hikigaya had to admit that this ‘bald-headed uncle’ knew how to handle the situation. He struck decisively, and it was clear he had already secured victory.
Yes, Hikigaya had noticed Katsuragi’s presence long ago. It seemed that Katsuragi had waited for the right moment and had made a decisive move. Otherwise, there would have been no need to deal with such ‘point-deducting’ behavior.
However, even with such a favorable situation, it couldn’t be helped that there was a ‘pig teammate’!
Totsuka, who was following Katsuragi, couldn’t help but chime in, “Katsuragi-san is right. C-class and D-class students are just a bunch of good-for-nothings. I don’t know why the school is still supporting them. They’re just wasting taxpayers’ money!”
“Yahiko, mind your words,” Katsuragi frowned, clearly not pleased.
