Chapter 264 Shi
The final night's casualties turned out to be smaller than the dark surge from the previous two days.
After surviving the brightest moment of the Red Moon, the swarming monsters faded away like the tide, with those that did not leave already annihilated under the light of the Tall Tower.
"It's so strange, the monsters actually retreated on their own."
"Didn't you guys notice that the power of the defense line is even stronger than before?"
Naturally, quite a few players noticed the anomaly.
The defensive range of the front line might not be large, but its power indeed made the players feel better than before; even fighting until late at night, they did not experience the negative status of energy depletion or physical exhaustion.
After tonight, the players who were still in this world cheered and jumped for joy!
They could finally leave this bizarre place!
Keep in mind that for the past few days they dared not leave the city to hunt monsters; they could only huddle inside Giant Fortress, waiting to scramble and complete the kill count missions when the monster army attacked at night.
As for the players who still had some missions left to complete, they planned to do so during the day so they wouldn't have to stay behind tonight.
Otherwise, if they didn't do the missions, the number of remaining players tonight might drop to single digits!
Or even more boldly guessed, just you alone!
To prevent such a desperate situation from actually occurring, after the night passed and the dawn light began to glow, many players rushed out of Giant Fortress.
Xu Shuo leaned against the parapet of the Watchtower, watching a few players below the city wall team up and set out together, not waiting for the Giant Pillar to regrow and take some fruit with them, heading straight to the distant desert.
He took a bite of the red berry in his hand.
Today, there was nothing he needed to do but to wait out the boring countdown to the end of the punishment.
Hong Rao yawned, saying, "Only two hours left, right? It's finally ending. In a while, you'll be going back alone."
Hong Rao actually felt a sense of relief.
As for these last moments, she was too lazy to continue staying in this barren world that had nothing, and after saying goodbye to Xu Shuo, she left Giant Fortress first.
Xu Shuo waved his hand, unconcerned.
With the time remaining, he didn't plan on venturing out; eating the reasonably tasty berries, he watched the Giant Pillar as it started to break through the ground to pass the time.
But just after Hong Rao had left not long ago, slow footsteps came from the stairs of the Watchtower.
A figure ascended the city wall and confidently climbed up North Tower No.1.
Xu Shuo turned his head and saw a man with golden hair.
The man had well-defined facial features and deep-set eyes, a prominent nose bridge, and was incredibly handsome. His tall and rugged silhouette didn't come off as effeminate despite his waist-length hair; instead, it exuded a tough and stern aura.
The man was probably over one meter ninety tall; Xu Shuo had to look up at him when he approached.
Xu Shuo watched him with curiosity.
The man pointed at himself, "Shi."
Xu Shuo paused, "Shi..."
"The 'Shi' that means beginning and end, but in my clan, it is pronounced 'Themis'."
"Pei Sheng, not the cloth Pei, but the victory Sheng."
Upon their first meeting, initiated by the other party, they gave a simple and bizarre self-introduction.
Of course, whether that information was true did not matter.
Then, Shi looked at Xu Shuo earnestly and said, "I'd like to ask for your help to go out and slay High Rank Abyss Creatures together. As for payment, you name it."
Xu Shuo shook his head, "I don't need things."
"No, there's definitely something you want."
"Two million," Xu Shuo stretched out two fingers and smiled, "In real currency."
Xu Shuo was indeed short of money to switch to a larger studio.
But transactions with real currency simply could not be achieved in Script Space, since the worlds were different, and whatever you hand over would undoubtedly be counterfeit! Find more chapters on empire
However, faced with what almost seemed like a second rejection, Shi did not hesitate to nod his head.
"It's possible."
"…Do you think I'll believe you?" Xu Shuo raised an eyebrow.
"This is a Rule Item 'Within the Cube', which, once unfolded, can perfectly defend against two energy impacts of any intensity. I'll give it to you first, and after our deal is done, you can give it back to me," Shi said with his deep black eyes fixed on Xu Shuo, his voice earnest and firm.
Interesting...
Xu Shuo lowered his eyes slightly, glancing at the silver cube about ten centimeters each side that he held in his hand, his lips curling into a smile.
He reached out his hand, and Shi placed the cube in his palm without revealing any sign of reluctance on his face.
It seemed he was not the least bit afraid Xu Shuo might take off with the treasure.
...
Shi's task was to slay high-rank Abyss Creatures, and by his own admission, he was two creatures short.
Honestly, this guy didn't seem like the type to hide in a corner, too cowardly to have not completed his quota of kills.
But since the man had said so, one might as well pretend to believe him for the moment.
As the two walked through the endless desert devoid of any monsters, Xu Shuo glanced at the time and said, "I'm leaving in half an hour; you'd better hurry up and search."
Shi looked around and then stated, "Found some."
No sooner had he spoken, than a group of black creatures roaring towards them appeared in the distance.
Xu Shuo: "..."
It was so exact that for a moment he didn't know whether to attribute it to himself or the guy beside him.
Facing the oncoming creatures, Shi solemnly drew a golden broadsword that radiated holy light and positioned himself at the forefront.
He said in a deep voice, "There are too many monsters; no need to engage them in a prolonged battle. Just help me block some of them, and I'll quickly finish off the two high-rank ones."
Xu Shuo looked at the dozens of monsters and raised an eyebrow: "You really think I can hold off that many? Maybe we should just run for it?"
Shi, serious-faced: "Please."
That sounded like there was no room for discussion.
Xu Shuo took out his cane, a similar golden light shimmering from its shaft.
The creatures charging at them were mostly low-rank crawling ones, their limbs twisted as they scuttled madly across the ground, stirring up clouds of sand in their wake and assaulting the senses with their rank stench of decay.
The golden broadsword gleamed with divine radiance.
Shi charged forward first, stamping heavily on the ground, his swordplay as if dancing in the air. He soared high amidst the swirling sandstorm and exploded amidst the cluster of monsters with a thunderous boom!
Then, without a moment's pause, he charged towards the rear!
The high-rank Abyss Creature commanding the swarm of low-rank creatures swung its tendrils from the back line as Shi, like a bolt of golden lightning, swiftly passed over!
The creatures that had just been scattered by his attack howled in rage, yet they didn't pursue Shi, nor did they heed the high-rank creature's command to regroup. Instead, they headed unhesitatingly towards Xu Shuo!
It was safe to say that he had not only blocked their advance but had attracted a whole mob!
In the face of these ferocious lesser beasts, Xu Shuo didn't hold back. His cane twirled and danced in his hand, and in an instant, several creatures exploded from inside out in a burst of light.
He moved gracefully among the swarm, his ordinary, slender Bamboo Joint Cane becoming a sharp spear that viciously pierced through the monsters' heads.
The tireless, fearless low-rank creatures, driven by instinct alone, rushed forward to tear and bite, but without exception, they all burst into sticky, black globs of matter upon the light explosion.
These oil-like substances fell to the ground, mixing with the sand to form clumps and emitting an indescribable stench.
Under the sunlight, these substances slowly vaporized.
Xu Shuo, who hadn't bothered to change clothes, decided to just bear with the dirt; after all, he would be leaving this world in two hours anyway.
As he fought and retreated, taking care of the attacking lesser creatures, he saw that not far away a grand battle, accompanied by flashes of golden light, was still ongoing.
Suddenly, a black tendril shot out towards him!
This time, three high-rank creatures had been drawn to the fight, and as Shi claimed, he was battling two others without falling behind.
But the other one had slipped through, moving from an opening, its headless form turning towards Xu Shuo.
Xu Shuo tossed his cane, catching it by the handle once it finished a revolution in the air.
He chuckled enigmatically.
Looking at the slow-moving Abyss Creature waving tendrils as fast as lightning, Xu Shuo took the initiative to step toward it.
Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Several tendrils swept through the air, their sharp ends piercing the dry earth beside Xu Shuo, quickly encircling him and trapping him in a cage-like formation, just as before, in pitch darkness, the stench overwhelming.
Whoosh—
Xu Shuo slightly shifted to dodge an attack in the darkness, but in the next moment, he charged towards its body, the light from his cane having gathered to its peak!
"Boom!"
