This Beast-Tamer is a Little Strange

Chapter 200: Chapter 200: Genetic Reconstruction

The moment Kain had first received the piece of laboratory equipment, he'd had this idea.

After reading about the Spirit Moth, he had issued his own mission on the school mission board and offered credits for its capture as a Silver Mission.

Although it was very rare and difficult to locate due to the preferred food source changing from generation to generation from imprinting, It was only an orange-grade spiritual creature and not particularly powerful, therefore with enough time and financial incentive, a student finally completed the task.

The live captured moth was just in the Mission Hall, waiting for Kain to receive it.

He approached the single-use capture container, a sleek cylinder about the size of a soda can, shimmering with faint sigils that pulsed gently in the dim light. Inside, the Spirit Moth flitted gracefully, its delicate wings shimmering with iridescent colours that danced like sunlight on water.

The containers are similar to space rings and allow for the transportation of large spiritual creatures in a relatively small container.

However, additional materials needed for the spiritual creature to survive need to be added to the container, which is why the containers are not as compact as space rings, and also why after being used once they will become useless trash without spending a lot of time and money to restore the sigils and materials within.

Considering the better soundproofing and the difficulty of breaking through the door compared to his dorm room, Kain had taken to doing any more secretive work, like interacting with System, within his private lab on campus.

To bring a spiritual creature into the laboratory, Kain needed to make physical contact with the moth. He went into the observation area of the laboratory to prevent the moth from escaping. He opened the container and as it was released, it suddenly expanded to its true size of half Kain's height.

In order to bring a spiritual creature into the System, it must not be hostile to him and must be equal to or lower than Kain's own spiritual power.

In order to decrease its hostility to him, Kain took out some of his spiritual honey. The student that captured it had reported that it'd found it within a meadow with many Cloud Flowers, therefore Kain assumed that that was either its preferred source of food, or the item it had imprinted on.

Thankfully, Kain had some spiritual honey made specifically from the Cloud Flowers, a red-grade flower that happened to be among those Kain had growing in his own personal field.

Once Kain took out the honey, the Spirit Moth hesitantly flew towards Kain him and after its guard was lowered while eating the honey, Kain touched it on its head.

In an instant, both Kain and the moth appeared within the System's lab next to the genetic Reconstructor. Read further on m-vl-em-pyr

Kain felt a rush of excitement. The machinery hummed softly after he inserted the moth into the necessary compartment, its intricate dials and glowing sigils waiting for his command. He had been wanting to test out the machine for weeks, but wanted to wait until he needed it in case the cost for each use is high and he ends up using up his one free attempt pointlessly as he did with the Simulator.

Kain activated the control screen, its interface lighting up with a series of prompts. He selected the option to extract genetic material, and as the machine whirred to life, he could feel the anticipation build.

The screen flashed, and Kain's heart raced as he saw a list of extractable traits, including the one he wanted. He removed the moth and allowed it to return to the observation room outside of the System—he still had plans for it, which is why he did not just kill it for its genes.

He then added a vial of the Aetherbrew Yeast, before selecting his desired gene extracted form the moth from the list on the panel and clicking the option to add genetic material.

As the machine calibrated, the adjustable mechanical arms extended, ready to begin the intricate procedure. The tubes of the machine pulsated with energy as it prepared to intertwine the moth's genetic essence with the yeast.

As the machinery hummed and the chamber filled with light, Kain waited for the results. Finally, after several minutes the machine stopped working and the profile of Aby appeared on the screen.

Because it was essentially more similar to adding a mutation and not evolution, there was no change to its skills.

However, there was an additional note within the profile about the genetic modification.

"'The Aetherbrew Yeast will be prevented from dividing in the absence of the spiritual material it first consumes after the genetic modification'…Excellent!" Kain had already thought long and hard about exactly what material he wanted to use to control Aby—Queen's royal jelly produced by the Essence of Life.

All the other ingredients within the beer recipe would be readily available to competitors. And even if Kian were to use a spiritual plant that can fulfill the role, traces of the plant could still be detected and found by competitors.

Obtaining a plant rare enough to not be found by competitors also has the added issue of not being large enough in quantity since Kian would likely only be able to find one of them. Additionally, there's the issue of how any additions will affect the flavor…

However, the Essence of Life is something that only Kain has access to, and even a 9-star beast-tamer or top Evolutionary Planner wouldn't be able to recreate it.

Secondly, Kain has a replenishable as the Vespirae continue to make more and not much is needed for Queen's evolution anyways. Therefore, Kain has quite a large stock he'd just been keeping in the case of emergencies.

The final benefit is that while not a lot of jelly needs to be added to each batch, even after being diluted and likely not being able to heal serious injuries, the jelly should enhance the beneficial properties of the beer by quite a bit.

Now all that was left was to assess the exact benefits it'd have to the beer and how the jelly might affect the taste…
