Chapter 29: 29. What Does It Mean to Be the First Ninja Village?
As another Wind Style expert in Konoha, aside from Danzo, Minato's attack was naturally infused with powerful Wind Style chakra.
Feeling the sharp pain at the back of his head, A reacted immediately, decisively abandoning his attack on Danzo and instead using the Body Flicker Technique to dodge to the side.
But Minato Namikaze, hailed as the Yellow Flash, was just as quick to react.
He immediately threw a specially crafted kunai, closely following A's movements.
With a sharp whoosh, Minato's figure reappeared directly in front of A.
"Damn you!"
A, known for his explosive temper, could no longer tolerate this face-to-face provocation. Lightning coursed over his entire body as he launched a powerful punch toward Minato.
Faced with this lightning-fast attack, Minato remained calm, his gaze unwavering.
He simply tossed the kunai in his hand and disappeared in an instant.
"He's gone!"
A's pupils contracted sharply.
"He's over there!"
Turning abruptly to his side, A saw Minato, clad in a green jonin vest and with his signature golden hair, now standing dozens of meters away.
"Got you this time!"
"I'll finish you with my full speed!"
With a furious roar, A prepared to unleash his maximum speed for a decisive blow against Minato. But before he could act, a clear, calm voice sounded in his ear.
"No, I've got you."
A's heart skipped a beat. Turning his head, he found Minato already behind him, holding the tri-pronged kunai he had just thrown.
"Damn it! Such incredible speed!"
The future Raikage candidate quickly stomped on the ground, twisting his body forcefully and crossing his arms to block in front of him.
A golden flash of Minato's blade sliced through the air, breaking A's Lightning Release armor and leaving a wound on his muscular arm.
The pain from the cut brought a flash of memory to A—of how he had narrowly avoided being pierced through the heart. His heart clenched momentarily, and without any hesitation, he swiftly distanced himself from both Minato and Danzo.
"Big Brother!"
Seeing his older brother in danger, Killer Bee immediately sprouted a massive octopus tail, sweeping Shisui aside and rushing to A's side at top speed.
Meanwhile, Shisui sheathed his blade calmly and walked over to Danzo.
Minato also stopped pursuing and, with a slight look of apology, turned to Danzo.
"My apologies, Elder Danzo, for arriving late."
Looking at the man before him, known as the Little Sun, Danzo shook his head slightly.
"No harm done. In fact, I should thank you, Minato, for allowing me to witness a truly extraordinary contest of speed."
Danzo's expression was serious.
In the earlier battle, both Minato and A had displayed outstanding performances. Their movements, strategies, and reaction times had all reached the highest levels of the ninja world.
Of course, both Minato and A were still in their youth and in a period of rapid growth. With time, they would only become even stronger.
"Elder Danzo flatters me," Minato replied with a faint smile, his expression calm.
Inwardly, however, his opinion of Danzo shifted slightly.
It seemed Elder Danzo wasn't as harsh and ruthless as the rumors suggested.
"It's you who deserves the credit for holding off so many enemies. That's truly remarkable," Minato said respectfully.
Clearly, Minato had already learned about Danzo's achievements on his way here and felt a deep sense of admiration.
If not for Danzo's desperate efforts, Kikyo Mountain might have already fallen by now.
Even if Konoha's reinforcements managed to arrive in time, the cost would likely rise exponentially!
Countless Konoha ninjas and citizens of the Land of Fire would perish or be severely injured.
From this perspective, Minato felt a deep sense of gratitude toward Danzo.
"Detected Namikaze Minato's gratitude. Skill point +1."
"Extracting skill pack."
"Congratulations! You have obtained [Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique (A)]."
Tsk, as expected of the Little Sun. He just gifted me a big present right away.
Although it wasn't the Flying Thunder God Technique he dreamed of, an A-rank jutsu was still a significant reward.
A satisfied smile immediately appeared on Danzo's face, making him seem rather benevolent.
"This is nothing more than my duty as a Konoha elder. It's not worth mentioning," Danzo said with a righteous demeanor.
Shifting his gaze toward the two brothers, A and B, Danzo continued, "The priority now is to eliminate the enemies from Sunagakure and Kumogakure."
Hearing this, Minato's expression became stern, and a chilling aura of killing intent instantly locked onto all the enemies.
Though renowned for his gentleness, Minato reserved that trait solely for his allies.
Once on the battlefield, he delivered nothing but ruthless and unrelenting strikes to his enemies, like a storm of ice and fire.
The situation was becoming more delicate.
The joint forces of Kumogakure and Sunagakure had almost entirely lost the advantage they initially held, gradually entering a stalemate with Konoha.
This stalemate was undoubtedly unfavorable for the allied forces.
Since their attack was a surprise assault, they had brought only a limited number of ninjas and extended their supply lines significantly.
If they failed to capture Kikyo Castle as a foothold, they risked being surrounded—and potentially annihilated—by Konoha's forces at any moment!
"Taking Kikyo Castle in the short term is no longer feasible. Prepare to retreat," A said, his sharp gaze fixed on the elder and younger pair before him, his eyes tinged with apprehension.
He had always thought his speed was unmatched in the ninja world, save for his father.
Yet, here in Konoha, there were already two individuals capable of threatening his life.
And beyond these two, there was also that rapidly growing Uchiha kid...
In the older generation, there were Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura.
In the middle generation, there were the Legendary Sannin.
In the younger generation, there were Namikaze Minato.
And among the youngest, there were Kakashi Hatake and Shisui Uchiha.
Konoha's heritage and strength were enough to strike fear into any ninja village.
Hearing A's decision, Rasa, the Kazekage, was clearly unwilling.
"What kind of joke is this? Retreating now would be a devastating loss for Sunagakure!"
Unlike the militarily powerful Land of Lightning, Sunagakure was resource-poor.
If this operation failed, the losses would be catastrophic—not only for the village but potentially for Rasa's position as Kazekage as well.
After all, Rasa wasn't the only one in Sunagakure with ambitions for the Kazekage's seat.
But A didn't care about Rasa at all. What happened to the Land of Wind had nothing to do with him.
If they continued to fight, both he and Killer Bee might lose their lives here.
Who said Konoha could only send Namikaze Minato as reinforcements?
What if the legendary Sannin showed up next?
Their original plan had been to finish the battle quickly, but it had now devolved into a prolonged struggle, completely against Kumogakure's initial goals and interests.
After all, Konoha wasn't the only village under military pressure. Kumogakure was still at war with Iwagakure!
"If you insist on continuing the attack, Kazekage-dono, feel free," A said nonchalantly, leaving Rasa's face alternating between green and white with anger.
Rasa wanted nothing more than to fight these damned Kumogakure ninjas to the death, but he didn't dare.
If infighting broke out, forget retreating—the entire force could end up annihilated by Konoha!
