Chapter 10: My Son!??
Amidst the thunderous applause,
Cao Shengming walked onto the stage with heavy steps, carrying immense pressure on his shoulders.
Though he was panicking inside, his expression remained as steady as an old dog's. The confident smirk at the corner of his lips gave off an air of composure, reassuring Lu Xiaoqi, who sat in the audience. After all, she had confidently reported to her boss last night that she had specifically found a top-tier translator who had studied abroad!
In the audience, several foreign guests with blue eyes watched the stage with friendly smiles.
Mr. Lu Wan, appearing to be in his thirties, carried the refined aura of a seasoned entrepreneur. He strolled onto the stage effortlessly, basking in the attention of the crowd.
He first smiled at Cao Shengming in greeting before turning to wave at the guests, his gaze settling on one particular foreigner. With a warm smile, he spoke, "Welcome, Mr. Maesang."
Cao Shengming straightened up, lifted the microphone, and began translating:
"Welcome... um... Ma... Ma... uh... My. Son!"
...
The entire room fell into a dead silence.
Lu Xiaoqi, sitting below the stage, nearly had her eyeballs pop out of their sockets. Her delicate lips parted so wide that she could fit an egg inside.
She stared at Cao Shengming in utter disbelief, her mind completely blank.
"My... son???"
Meanwhile, in the livestream, over 230,000 viewers had gathered.
The moment Cao Shengming blurted out "My. Son", all 230,000 people were collectively stunned.
——[!!! WTF! HAHAHAHAHA!!!]——[Legendary.]——[(laugh-cry emoji) Mr. Maesang... My. Son... Oh my god, I'm dying!]——[(thumbs up) Absolute genius!]——[(crying) I knew No.10's English was bad, but I never expected him to translate "Maesang" as "My. Son."]——[Is this real life or just fantasy?]——[(rolling on the floor laughing) Technically speaking, his pronunciation does kinda match... but still, HAHAHA!]——[How did he even come up with this? I'm actually crying from laughter!]
The atmosphere in the room became awkwardly silent.
Mr. Maesang, now full of question marks, occasionally turned to his female assistant for help.
Unfortunately, she looked just as bewildered as he did.
The expressions of the foreign guests grew increasingly dazed and confused, one after another.
But Mr. Lu Wan, a true traditionalist who believed in "revolution without foreign languages," remained oblivious to the severity of the situation.
In fact, he was quite pleased with his young, handsome translator. To him, anyone who could translate so quickly had to be an expert!
He was even considering inviting Cao Shengming for a proper chat after the meeting.
Still smiling, Lu Wan continued, "We have a saying in the East..."
Cao Shengming: "Old. Say."
Lu Wan: "When friends visit from afar, is it not a great joy?"
Cao Shengming: "..."
He shot a helpless glance at Lu Wan, feeling utterly defeated.
Even an advanced English speaker would struggle to translate classical Chinese idioms, let alone someone like him!
But there was no time to dwell on that now—survival was key.
A spark of inspiration hit him.
Cao Shengming confidently translated:
"Far. Friend... No. Happy?"
Lu Wan smiled, unfazed. "Tonight, we shall host a welcoming banquet!"
Cao Shengming, deadpan: "Go. To. KTV. And. Wash. Feet."
Lu Wan: "I have always led a simple life."
Cao Shengming: "We. Are... um... Poor."
Lu Wan: "We must be pragmatic and realistic."
Cao Shengming: "And. Low."
Lu Wan: "As the saying goes..."
Cao Shengming: "So."
Lu Wan: "It takes a hundred years to be able to share the same boat."
Cao Shengming: "One. Boat."
Lu Wan: "And a thousand years to share the same pillow."
Cao Shengming hesitated for a moment before translating:
"Sleep. Together."
Lu Wan, now fired up: "Let's work hard together!!!"
Cao Shengming, equally enthusiastic: "OHHH!!! LET'S GOOOOO!!!"
The applause was delayed, hesitant, yet eventually filled the room.
At this moment, Lu Wan's assistant stepped onto the stage, giving Cao Shengming a complicated look before whispering to Lu Wan, "Sir, Mr. Maesang just asked if it's absolutely necessary to sleep together."
Lu Wan froze.
His gaze shifted to Cao Shengming, who was now looking everywhere but at him, pretending to admire the ceiling.
"Wow! The chandeliers here are so fancy! Back when I was working part-time in Syria, I never saw anything like this..."
Meanwhile, in the livestream...
The entire chat had descended into absolute chaos.
