Chapter 20: The Call
In the dark passage ahead, a slightly dim light appeared.
The passage had come to an end.
Seeing this light, Xian Huaibi couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief.
Although they had not encountered any dangers along the way, they had to keep their vigilance at the highest level, their nerves tense. Moreover, the gloomy silence of the passage oppressed his spirit, making him feel quite uncomfortable.
Now that he could see the daylight again, Xian Huaibi took the lead, eagerly darting into the exit.
Hissss!
Just as Xian Huaibi reached the exit, a piercing cold wind suddenly whipped up at the entrance, with countless wind blades slashing towards Xian Huaibi!
Caught off guard by this turn of events, Xian Huaibi was instantly slashed by two wind blades across his abdomen, cutting open two gashes, from which blood gushed.
Luckily, as a Body Cultivator, his physical body's defensive power was exceptionally strong, and the wind blades only caused some minor superficial injuries.
After being hit by two wind blades, Xian Huaibi finally reacted. He hurriedly circulated his Spiritual Power to use his Physical Body Divine Skills, and a layer of rock-like armor rapidly covered his entire body.
Puff puff puff!
The wind blades struck the current Xian Huaibi to no avail, unable to inflict any further substantial damage on him.
Xian Huaibi casually wiped off the blood seeping from his abdomen.
The wounds there were healing at a visibly rapid pace.
Narrowing his eyes, he looked at the slowly drifting ashes above the tunnel and muttered, "The Underworld Cultivators are relentless."
The ashes were what remained of Talismans after they were activated.
The Underworld Cultivators had placed dozens of triggered wind blade Talismans at the exit of the tunnel, which would activate immediately if someone emerged.
Of course, Li Venerable did not expect these dozens of talismans to achieve any significant effect; his main purpose in setting them up was to deter those who followed, putting pressure on them.
The message was clear, telling those who followed that he would set various kinds of traps along the way, and it was up to them to take it seriously or not.
Once the wind blades dissipated, Lu Qingshan finally followed and stepped out.
As soon as he emerged, the brightness in his field of vision expanded dramatically, revealing a vast underground space. Under the dim and murky light and shadow, he could see a grand palace complex stretching endlessly ahead.
The construction of the palace was not exquisite. It was built from huge stones, exuding an aura of desolation and ruggedness.
Compared to the ingenious architectures of the Human Race, made from ancient wood, it seemed particularly primitive and simple.
The source of the dim light illuminating this space was deep within the palace.
Indistinctly, there appeared to be an object shimmering with golden light inside. The dull yellow light flowed continuously from it, making the entire palace complex appear even more desolate and ancient.
"The malicious aura here has become much denser than before," Dantai Qingrun said, frowning slightly.
"This must be the burial site of the Gengjin Tiger King, so it's natural for the malicious aura to be much stronger," Lu Qingshan nodded, not surprised.
He then released his Divine Sense to explore the surroundings, but suddenly found that his Divine Sense could only extend a few feet upward before it felt like it was sinking into a marsh, making it difficult to proceed further.
Lu Qingshan and Dantai Qingrun, in perfect sync, turned their heads and looked at each other.
"Did you notice it too?"
"Yes, it seems this place is under a ban on flying."
Both of them noticed the anomaly at the same time.
Hearing what they said, Xian Huaibi, relying on his steel-like physique, tried to fly upwards.
But his body had risen only about six to nine meters when it suddenly plummeted, somewhat embarrassingly tumbling from the air to the ground, rolling a few times before standing up.
"It is indeed a no-fly zone. After I moved up about nine to twelve meters, a malevolent aura attacked me, infiltrating my Divine Soul. Fortunately, the power of this malevolent aura was not too strong." Affected by the malevolent aura, Xian Huaibi felt dizzy and it took him a moment to recover, he added with a shudder, "I could feel that further up, the malevolent aura became even denser, and the effects could have been more than just a momentary distraction."
"It seems that we can only walk here," Dantai Qingrun said with a troubled expression.
Because of the malevolent aura prohibiting flight, as a Sword Cultivator, she couldn't use levitation or her Flying Sword techniques and had to resort to close combat with her sword.
In this place, it seemed that Xian Huaibi, being a Body Cultivator, was unrestricted in terms of combat power and had the greatest flexibility.
"Let's go," Lu Qingshan said calmly.
To Lu Qingshan, the Flying Sword was his forte, but his Sword Techniques were equally potent, so he wasn't too worried.
The group stopped pondering and followed the direction of the light source, heading towards the palace complex. After passing through several huge but simple stone halls, a fork in the road appeared before them.
At first glance, at the end of both paths, there were faint lights and shadows, making it impossible to discern which path led to the correct destination.
The same problem confronted them again.
Which path should they take?
This time, Lu Qingshan was also out of ideas.
In his previous life, his main area of activity at this stage was not in the Lingxu Mansion, so he only had a cursory understanding of the Demon Spirit Tomb.
Knowing the specific location of the Demon Spirit Tomb and the approximate direction of the Gengjin Tiger King's body was all thanks to its popularity in this version, where many players discussed it enthusiastically, and he had paid some attention as a result.
But for more detailed information, he was completely in the dark.
"Lu Qingshan, did you hear that?" Just as they were undecided, West Mouse King suddenly blinked, looking puzzled, and transmitted his voice to ask Lu Qingshan.
"Heard what?" Lu Qingshan was puzzled.
"Just..." West Mouse King tilted his head, describing, "Dong~ Dong~ Dong, like a heartbeat, and mixed within it are intermittent calling sounds, as if something is summoning me to find it."
It was the first time West Mouse King had encountered such a situation, and he was quite bewildered.
Lu Qingshan's expression subtly changed.
He certainly hadn't heard any strange noises, but he wasn't naive enough to think it was just an illusion of West Mouse King.
"Did you hear any strange noises?" Lu Qingshan quickly asked Qin Yitian.
Qin Yitian shook his head.
It seemed the transmission was targeted only at West Mouse King.
"Do you know where the sound is coming from?" Lu Qingshan had some guesses and pursued further.
West Mouse King nodded, pointing towards the left path.
Previously unsure of which choice to make, Lu Qingshan, without a moment's hesitation, pointed to the left path and decisively said, "This way!"
The group passed by several more enormous palaces and in less than half an hour, another three-way fork appeared before them.
