Thou Shall Not Die

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: A New Island

Both Taiyo and Van Augur docked on the island that they saw, as they wanted to explore it. Taiyo immediately felt something was wrong on the island, as it was emitting something strange within the forests.

"Let's go, maybe we'll find something interesting in there," Taiyo said, as he let Huginn and Muninn fly to the sky to gather more birds to become scouts for them, while both Taiyo and Van Augur were going to explore the forest.

They were met with a lot of vegetation on the island, where surprisingly, there were no fruits or vegetables visible in sight. Van Augur, who was still connected with the vision of Huginn, noticed that the island looked like a bear's paw if you looked at it from the top. When he saw it, something disturbed Van Augur, as he thought that he had heard of something like this before, but could not remember where. As they were walking, Taiyo suddenly stopped, as he felt something looking at them.

They were being watched with predatory glances, as if seen as prey—like wild animals—but strangely, Taiyo could feel that they were humans. One of them started the hunt, throwing a spear toward Taiyo, thinking that he was the weaker one. Taiyo caught the spear and then threw it back toward the position where it came from with a speed that could not be caught by the eye, while Van Augur fired at those who attacked after Taiyo killed the first attacker.

Taiyo also approached them and killed them ruthlessly as they launched their attacks first. It did not take long before the massacre of the hunters was done. When Taiyo stopped killing them, he then realized that they were members of the Kumate Tribe, a known cannibalistic tribe in One Piece, so Taiyo did not feel bad about the killings.

"How unlucky. It seems fate is not in their favor," Van Augur just said, as he looked at the people they had massacred.

"They did attack us first. They decided to bet their lives on the line. It didn't depend on fate but on their inability to gauge someone's abilities," Taiyo just replied, while walking away from the scene, followed by Van Augur, who was smiling.

As they were walking, the ravens suddenly came back down, as they wanted to report to Taiyo. Since they were not connected to him, they looked like they had just seen some kind of treasure, as they had a shine in their eyes that would only appear if they found something they thought had value.

"Boss, Boss, we found something strange," Huginn and Muninn came back down, as they wanted to report their findings.

"What is it?" Taiyo then asked, as he turned toward the two ravens.

"We found a fruit with strange patterns on it, like the one that you fed Huginn before," Muninn replied, as he thought it would be for him now. He was jealous of the abilities that Huginn got from Taiyo, and when he saw that the other strange fruit was given to the newly joined Van Augur, he wanted one for himself.

"Lead us," Taiyo said, as he and Van Augur started following both of the ravens as they flew forward.

After a few minutes, they arrived at the destination, where both Taiyo and Van Augur also saw the strangely patterned fruit. Without a doubt, it was a Devil Fruit. But with its wild appearance, Taiyo did not know what kind of abilities it would give, and they also did not have a Devil Fruit encyclopedia with them. So they just took it and continued exploring the island.

---------------

After a full day of searching around the island, both Taiyo and Van Augur learned that all of the people they had massacred were the only ones on the island. There was no one else living there anymore—not even wild animals—so both Van Augur and Taiyo went toward the beach and set up their camp to sleep on the sand before leaving in the morning.

While both Taiyo and Van Augur were sleeping, Muninn, who wanted to eat the Devil Fruit, approached Taiyo and kept pecking at him to wake him up. Muninn did this for about a minute before Taiyo finally woke up, groggily looking at the one that had disturbed his sleep.

"Why are you waking me up in the middle of the night??" Taiyo asked, still very sleepy.

"I want to eat a fruit," Muninn said, making Taiyo, who had just been woken up, angry, as he thought he had been disturbed only for Muninn's desire to eat a fruit.

"You woke me up for that reason? You can eat fruit without getting my permission," Taiyo said as he went back to sleep. Muninn took this as permission from Taiyo to eat the Devil Fruit, creating a state of confusion between the two.

As Muninn ate the Devil Fruit, something within him changed. His talons, already sharp, became even sharper. He grew larger, and suddenly all of his feathers turned into blades, as if they were made from sharpened metal. Muninn's size continued to increase until he was as large as a pterodactyl, making him proud of himself for making the right decision. He then took off, but created a huge mess on the beach due to his now much stronger flight power, causing both Taiyo and Van Augur to wake up.
