Time Traveling System: Establishing The Last Stronghold for Humanity

Chapter 7: Chapter 7 Forgotten tunnel: Noah of hope

Under the dim neon light filtering into the abandoned building,

Tham no longer let the confusion and pain that once gripped his mind wear down his resolve.

The map on the tablet he repaired himself became like a compass guiding him on a grand mission.

He traced his finger along the old railway tunnel, a former refuge in the future. The tunnel's width, its underground depth, and the subterranean water sources he remembered were key strengths he would use to build a "home" for humanity facing impending disaster.

"The old railway tunnel…"

Tham murmured to himself as the tunnel's layout appeared on the screen.

The tablet in his hand felt heavy, as if it bore the fate of the world. The journey to the tunnel had to be undertaken with utmost caution.

He was like a shadow, moving without a trace in a world still unaware of its own destiny.

He began by scouting the route from the abandoned building to the tunnel. Knowledge from the future told him that the main roads would be teeming with people and vehicles.

So, he chose a more complex route, using small alleys and hidden shortcuts among old buildings.

The key was to avoid detection. He had to leave no trace that could lead to his identity being revealed.

Tham's initial reconnaissance focused on assessing the tunnel's condition. Upon reaching the long-abandoned entrance, Tham encountered his first challenge: a massive, rusted iron gate locked with a thick chain.

It looked untouched for decades. Tham used a small multi-tool he carried to tackle the old, decrepit lock.

The clinking of metal echoed in the night's silence, but he quickly dealt with it with the expertise he had honed from surviving in a ruined world.

When the gate opened, a musty, dusty smell hit his nose.

Tham switched on the flashlight on his wrist, illuminating the darkness. The tunnel seemed endless. The old concrete walls were full of cracks and moss. The floor was covered with rubble, gravel, and debris.

These things didn't discourage Tham at all. Instead, he felt the possibilities hidden within.

"This is the beginning,"

Tham said to himself, his voice echoing throughout the tunnel.

He continued exploring the tunnel to assess its structural condition and locate underground water sources based on his information.

The tunnel's length was a great advantage, as it allowed for clear division into various zones: a shelter zone, a supply storage zone, a hospital zone, and, most importantly, a control zone. He meticulously noted everything on his tablet: the location of cracks, the size of areas, and ideal spots for building defensive walls.

### Phase One: Securing and Concealing

The first thing Tham prioritized was **security and concealment**. This stronghold had to be a top secret. No one should know of its existence until the appropriate time.

He spent several days exploring every entrance and exit of the tunnel to block and camouflage all unnecessary entry points.

Tham tried to use readily available materials nearby, such as old planks, metal, and soil, to disguise these entrances, making them look like part of the abandoned environment.

The work had to be done at night to avoid being seen.

After dealing with the entrances, Tham began planning the **defensive system**. Although he didn't yet have enough resources to build large walls,

He started conceptualizing simple traps and basic alarm systems.

Tham used old wire scraps and leftover materials found in the tunnel to create simple alarm systems that would make a sound if anyone approached, especially near the main entrance he intended to use.

"Secrecy is the best weapon right now," Tham thought as he worked quietly.

### Phase Two: Gathering Basic Resources

Once basic security was handled, Tham moved into Phase Two: **gathering basic resources**. The most essential items were water, food, and tools. Drinking water was the top priority.

Tham used his knowledge from the future to locate underground water sources in the tunnel, and he found one.

The water source was a small spring flowing from a rock fissure. Tham used cloth and whatever filtering materials he had to create a simple water filtration system, making the water potable.

For gathering food, Tham knew that in a collapsing city, food in supermarkets and shops would be the first targets.

So, Tham chose to look for food that wasn't in plain sight, such as forgotten canned goods in abandoned warehouses or certain herbs found in suburban forests.

He spent most of his nights scouting, gathering as many supplies as he could, focusing on food with a long shelf life and high energy content.

**Tools** were equally important. Tham needed tools for construction, repair, and self-defense. He searched old hardware stores or abandoned factories.

Sometimes he had to risk entering crowded areas to find necessary tools like hammers, saws, shovels, and basic construction materials such as nails or old metal sheets.

"Must build up as much stock as possible,"

Tham reminded himself.

### Phase Three: Planning Structure and Internal Systems

With enough basic resources, Tham began **detailed planning of the stronghold's structure and internal systems** on his tablet.

He drew layouts of different rooms, determined the locations of temporary walls to be built from scrap materials, and planned the ventilation system, which was crucial for an underground area.

He knew he needed a system that could filter fresh air in and vent stale air out.

Tham also planned for a **backup power system**, which would be vital when the outside world collapsed.

He remembered that in the future, some types of energy were still obtainable or easily self-generated, such as solar power (even underground, solar panels could be installed on the surface and power sent down)

or hand-crank generators. But for now, he started by finding old batteries and as much wire as he could to create a basic lighting system in the tunnel.

### Phase Four: Seeking "People"

Although his main mission was to build the stronghold, Tham knew that a stronghold without people was meaningless. In the future,

the world needed survivors, and "quality" survivors. That's why Tham began thinking about **finding talented individuals**. Even though the system limited him from directly changing history,

"persuading" people to gather for a certain purpose might not be considered the most severe violation of the rules.

He wasn't actively looking for people yet, but he started compiling a list from the information he had from the future: doctors who were vital in treating patients,

engineers who could build and repair things,

scientists who might be involved in researching ways to counter the virus, and even soldiers with defensive skills and good leadership.

"I can't tell them directly about the catastrophe, but I can create a motivation for them to gather,"

Tham thought. He would have to find some credible reason to persuade these people to come to the tunnel without revealing the full truth.

In the silent darkness of the tunnel,

Tham worked tirelessly. Every movement, every decision, stemmed from his determination to build a better future.

He couldn't stop Dr. Crane. He couldn't prevent the Apocalypse Project. But he could build a "Noah's Ark" for the survivors. And as the red neon light from outside still shone into the abandoned building he had left,

Tham knew this was just the beginning of the real fight.
