Chapter 386: Chapter 236 Remember Me (Part 1)_1
After searching through the grand hall, Fang Cheng found Shu Guang’s name.
The name was tucked away in a corner, among the very few names on the wall that still sparkled.
Most of the names of the Far Travelers on the wall had dimmed, resembling dehydrated shadows, faintly clinging to the surface.
The civilizations associated with these names had dissipated, for survival under the original universe was already a difficult task, let alone in the unstable outer cosmos.
The Far Travelers who had managed to reach this place were the elite of the nearby universes, while many more had fallen before ever making it here. Some civilizations couldn’t even produce a Far Traveler before they were dissolved into the vastness of the cosmos, without as much as an echo to be heard.
Carrying this message, Fang Cheng returned to the Iron Fortress.
Gong Gong, having completed his delivery, was resting in his management room while the Mysterious Mirror was checking the live stream data next to him. Numerous steel guards in the form of Little Bears were preparing the materials for Gong Gong’s next live-streaming session.
These steel guards were the vanquished underlings of Gong Gong, although most had been reduced to chip form and were awaiting restoration, nineteen remained.
These nineteen Artifact Spirits were left by Gong Gong, still amenable to thought reform. They would work alongside Gong Gong, receive his teachings, and search together for Far Travelers.
While the Little Bears continued preparing a colorful live-stream, Gong Gong placed one foot atop his chair, an energy bar gripped between his teeth. His sharply pointed tiger teeth tore at the wrapper, and through mouthfuls, he muffledly asked, “Mysterious Mirror, how’s the live-streaming going?”
“Extremely well,” Mysterious Mirror clicked his tongue in wonder. “You’ve got a knack for this! You can stir up excitement and act adorable during the live. Many are asking about your puppeteer, and they all think the person controlling you must also be incredibly cute.”
“They’ve got good taste, then! And the sales? The scores should be almost cleared, right?”
“There are still a few big score-holders with quite a bit left, but no worries, it won’t take much to wring them dry and have them use up all their points.”
As the two Artifact Spirits were plotting how to squeeze the last out of the players, Gong Gong suddenly stirred and then noticed that Fang Cheng had returned.
Waving sleeves like water ripples, the white-haired, red-eyed young girl cheerfully called out, “Boss, you’re back! Did you meet the Far Traveler? Is he well? Did you tell him how much I miss him?”
“He is no longer among us.”
“Gone… So, he went somewhere even further away?”
“Gong Gong, face the reality.”
“Yeah, I see.”
Gong Gong shrugged helplessly and sighed, “So he just died like that, huh? It’s rough for the Far Traveler too. Why did he die?”
“He sacrificed himself to provide the final power to a relic. I saw that relic, and some civilizations are still there; in the future, we may be able to help them. He has become the savior of those civilizations.”
“Sounds like something he would do. Thanks, boss, I got it, I’m going to rest now.”
Gong Gong yawned and, followed by a group of Little Bears, left the room to head to the repair chamber for a check-up.
But as it walked, its steps grew slower and slower. By the time it neared the repair chamber, it no longer had the strength to take the final few steps and could only kneel on the ground, weeping silently.
Fang Cheng left Mysterious Mirror to handle the news and returned to his workshop to ponder what he could do.
For the spirit of sacrifice is strong, and bold enough to instruct the sun and moon to usher a new heaven.
The deeds of the Far Traveler stirred something within him; self-sacrifice is a story that evokes emotion at any time.
The sacrifice was not in vain and had attracted his attention, much like the efforts of an ascetic Far Traveler, also shedding light on past events for him.
His speculations about history were confirmed at that moment, and by such reckoning, he owed the other party a debt.
Every civilization’s Far Traveler hopes to be remembered, even if only by a name.
This is proof of their existence, a reassurance that their everything has not vanished in the flow of history but still shines with their own light.
So he decided to create a game, a game to ensure they are remembered.
Returning to the grand hall, Fang Cheng took out each name and, following them, began to trace the past of these Far Travelers.
Every departed name represented a fallen civilization; hundreds of civilizations concentrated down to a mere fraction, not even enough to fill the wall, and this was their final memory.
Far Travelers of numerous civilizations emerged, some as black silhouettes or plants blooming atop their heads, and some even as simple stick figures.
Some were cheerful, others despondent. Departing from their homelands with hopes of meeting the Immortal, they traveled step by step to this place, only to face the harsh reality in the end.
And Fang Cheng, he wanted them to be written down.
Their pasts manifested through their names, memories of Far Travelers extracted, preserved, and used as the most primal of materials.
Due to its large scale, Fang Cheng did not directly hand it over to his workshop colleagues but went to the Heavenly Tao network to find the Lord of Balance.
This former Main God was learning how to balance the current situation.
Recently, the conflicts within players’ Sects had concluded, predominantly with the liquidation of the majority of Sects and the purge of many Bishops.
The surrounding Shadows had been stabilized, and some lost planets were being gradually reclaimed. Ruins on those planets would soon supplement the existing tech tree and boost productivity.
