Chapter 47: CHAPTER 46 – NEW THREAT
Note: I'm back. Sorry for the absence but I already explained what happened to me this whole week so if you're interested, read the previous "chapter" and you'll know it.
Well, after all of that... don't forget to comment and have a very good day :)
...
The day before...
We are located in a solar system extremely close to Earth. This system contains only three planets orbiting a sun that is quite similar to ours in size. Of these three planets, only one is inhabited — by a race called the Murlus.
The Murlus are a species resembling land squids. However, they are bipedal and cannot breathe underwater, though they swim with remarkable speed. Their bodies are entirely white, except for their eyes and genitals, which are always black. Their reproductive organs are nearly identical to those of humans, making further description unnecessary. In short, the Murlus are something of a hybrid between squids and humans.
(Note: disgusting, really.)
This race, as is obvious, lives under the rule of King Deviluke. However, the one managing their planet directly is their local leader, Murlus V. While King Deviluke governs the entire galaxy, even someone as powerful as him cannot be present on thousands of planets at once. For that reason, he appoints one representative or "ruler" from each race to act as the local authority. This system applies to all developed races in the galaxy—excluding a few underdeveloped ones like humans. However, these rulers are rulers in name only. The real authority remains with King Deviluke. That said, these appointed figures aren't mere administrators — the King grants them the status of nobles.
Returning to the main topic: Murlus V was a deeply unpopular "ruler" among his people. He was cruel, tyrannical, and treated his citizens however he pleased. Known for his ruthlessness, he bowed only to King Deviluke, pretending to be a benevolent governor when in truth he was nothing more than a dictator. But who would dare tell the truth to the King? No one, of course — not unless they wished to be executed.
Murlus V was also an avid collector of women, gathering females from all over the galaxy — of every race — selecting only those who fit his warped standards of beauty. After capturing them, he would use them for his own pleasure, turning them into broken, obedient playthings. Right now, in fact, we are in his throne room, located in a massive castle on a remote part of his home planet.
Normally, when we think of a throne room, we imagine a large chamber with a luxurious throne at the far end, expensive furniture, and loyal guards protecting their ruler, right? Well, in this case, Murlus V's throne room was a bit... different. Yes, it had expensive furniture. Yes, it had guards. But no, it did not have a traditional throne. Instead, where a grand chair should have stood, two women knelt on all fours, serving as his living seat.
His royal guard was equally unconventional — composed entirely of women in revealing bikinis that barely covered them. All were of different races and part of Murlus V's "collection." You may wonder how effective such guards could be. Well, despite the lack of armor, all of them had received proper combat training and were in fact skilled fighters.
"Dita, has the assassin I requested arrived yet?" asked Murlus V.
Unlike Burgus, Murlus V was not a fat man. In fact, he was quite thin, though just as much a disgusting hedonist.
"Sir, I've received word that the assassin is on his way," replied Dita.
Dita was a short woman, standing around 130 cm tall. Her race closely resembled humans, with the major difference being their size. All of them looked like 11-year-old Earth children... Ahem. Murlus V didn't care about age. In fact, he preferred them young and tender. You get the idea.
"Well then, tell me... do you have any news for me?" - asked Murlus V.
"Actually, yes, my lord" - Dita nodded.
"Well? What are you waiting for?" he snapped.
"Sir, our informants have discovered that Mr. Burgus sent an assassin to eliminate the Earthling known as Akira Sato" - Dita reported.
"Burgus? No surprise. That fat bastard is just like me, a collector of beautiful women. Of course he wouldn't want to let Lala-sama slip away" - said Murlus V.
As you may have guessed, Murlus V also wanted Akira dead. But unlike Burgus, whose main goal was to be king for the sake of women, Murlus V had two ambitions. But to fulfill them, he needed to be the king.
What were his goals?
As a noble who thought with nothing but his genitals, his dreams were simple: he wanted to become king so he could collect women without restrictions — humans, Memorzans, Devilukians — it didn't matter. He wanted all the beauties in the galaxy. Only by becoming king could he make that dream a reality. He even dreamed of stealing the current King's own wife and making her his queen.
"Who did that fat man send?" asked Murdus V.
"Sir, he first sent Konjiki no Yami," Dita replied.
Upon hearing that name, Murdus V's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
"Konjiki no Yami?! That fat bastard actually dared to send Konjiki no Yami?! He must've really wanted that guy dead and didn't want to waste any time!" - Murdus V exclaimed.
Konjiki no Yami — a lethal, cold assassin devoid of emotion. There were few people in the galaxy that Murdus V feared: the King, Konjiki no Yami, and two others. So, as you can imagine, his shock was understandable.
"That's right. As soon as he found out what happened, he contacted Konjiki no Yami and hired her to kill the Earthling" - Dita nodded.
"So... is the Earthling already dead?" Murdus V asked, a little nervously.
"That's the strangest part. Days ago, Konjiki no Yami went to Earth to kill the human, but she hasn't returned since" - said Dita.
A deathly silence filled the room. Murdus V was stunned. Konjiki no Yami hadn't returned from Earth yet? It must be said: not only is she known for being lethal and emotionless, but also for completing her missions quickly — she never takes more than three days. And yet, she's already been on Earth for over four. What in the world was going on there?
"Do you think the King found out about her presence and had her executed?" - asked Murdus V.
"Absolutely not. Our informants confirmed that the King hasn't left his spaceship since he announced Princess Lala's fiancé. He hasn't intervened" - Dita replied.
"And the captain of the royal guard?" - asked Murdus V.
"Sir, the captain cannot intervene in matters like this" - Dita responded.
"But that human is now the King's heir. Don't you think the captain would intervene if he were in danger?" - Murdus V insisted.
"I don't believe so, sir. Konjiki no Yami is known for being extremely cautious. I'm certain she would never attack if she knew the human was under the captain's protection" - Dita said.
From her tone, it almost seemed like Dita admired Yami.
"Yes, that makes sense… but then, what has happened there?" - asked Murdus V.
"This... I'm afraid we can't say for sure. We only know that after realizing Konjiki no Yami hadn't returned, Mr. Burgus hired Kurt the Silent One — but he was captured and executed" - Dita said.
{Note: Murlus V is not very intelligent and Dita is lying him a lot but he doesn't realize it}
As you can see, their informants are quite competent — unlike Murdus V himself.
"Kurt the Silent was captured and executed? Damn it... What the hell is going on with that primitive planet?!" - Murdus V shouted.
"Actually, I have several theories about that. Would Your Excellency like to hear them?" - asked a voice.
Dita, the guards, and Murdus V all turned toward the source of the voice, surprised someone had entered the throne room unnoticed.
"Don't worry, there's no need to be alarmed. After all, it was Your Excellency who summoned me" - said the figure.
It was a man. He wore a white lab coat — torn in several places — over a green T-shirt and black jeans. His long, unkempt hair partly covered a dirty face that looked like it hadn't been washed in years. Still, strangely enough, he didn't emit any foul smell.
"Are you Yust, the eccentric doctor?" - asked Murdus V.
"That's right. It's me" - Yust nodded.
Yust belonged to a race very similar to humans, except their skin was entirely grayish in tone.
"How did you enter here?" - Murdus V asked.
"Simple — an invisibility potion. It doesn't last long and doesn't mask smells very well, but it does hide body heat. That was enough to slip in undetected" - Yust explained.
"Next time, just tell the guards to let you in. No need to use potions for something like that" - Murdus V said, somewhat irritated.
"I'll keep that in mind" - Yust replied.
"Good. Now tell me — you said you had several theories about this. What are they?" - Murdus V asked.
"Well, since I tend to be... rather particular, I've considered many possibilities as to why Konjiki no Yami hasn't returned from Earth. Some of them are extremely wild and unlikely. Do you still want to hear them?" - Yust asked.
"Of course" - Murdus V nodded.
"Very well. After a lot of thought, here are my theories: First, Konjiki no Yami was killed by Zastin, the captain of the royal guard..." . Yust began.
"Excuse me, but I already explained why that's impossible" - Dita interrupted.
"I'm afraid we can't dismiss any possibility, no matter how unlikely, miss" - Yust replied calmly.
"But..." Dita began.
"Enough! I order you to let him finish, or prepare for a third-degree punishment after he leaves!" - Murdus V barked.
At that, Dita trembled. A third-degree punishment? No... anything but that!
"I-I apologize. I won't say another word" - Dita stammered, pale and shaking.
"Good. As I was saying: the second possibility is that Konjiki no Yami was killed by Princess Lala — unlikely. The third: the human killed Konjiki no Yami — even less likely. And finally... the craziest theory of them all: Konjiki no Yami has fallen in love with the human and decided to stay on Earth… as his wife" - Yust said.
Murdus V and even Dita were left speechless. Other than the first theory, the rest sounded like pure fantasy: Princess Lala killing one of the most feared assassins in the galaxy? A simple human defeating Konjiki no Yami? Konjiki no Yami… in love?
Honestly, it seemed more likely that their planet would be wiped out by an asteroid than for any of those last three theories to be true.
"Of course, there is also another much more likely possibility" - Yust said.
"Say it because the rest of your theories live up to the word 'eccentric' in your nickname" – Murdus V sighed.
"Thank you for the compliment. You see, as you know, if the king arrests a professional assassin, only one fate awaits him: death without trial! Are you aware of this?" – Yust said.
"Of course" - Murdus V nodded.
"Well, what you probably haven't thought about is the possibility that Konjiki no Yami has been forgiven for all her crimes, but obviously it's only possible if you do something very special..." – Yust explained.
