Chapter 3: Escape from the Desert
"Yatogami Tohka? That's a Japanese name. Are you Japanese?" Hearing Tohka's name, Tony remembered what she said when she entered earlier. To be fair, they were too tense at the time to catch what she had said, let alone figure out what language she spoke.
"No." Not wanting to be mistaken for a Japanese person, she shook her head.
"Then where are you from?"
"...."
Tohka didn't know how to explain, so she opted for silence, leaving Tony to fill in the blanks himself.
"By the way, Miss Tohka, can you make some kind of big commotion? Something that would get the search team's attention."
"Yeah, that could work." Hearing Dr. Yinsen's suggestion, Tony realized it was a good idea.
He already had a rough understanding of Tohka's power, so he wasn't worried she'd attract anything too dangerous.
"Okay, I can do that." Tohka nodded, knowing this was the best option for now. At the same time, she remembered why she had come to save Tony: "I have a request, and I hope you'll agree to it, Tony."
"Go ahead. How much money do you want? I'll give it to you." Tony waved his hand generously, assuming she was in it for the money.
"No, I don't want money." Tohka, though a bit naive, wasn't foolish. She understood the value of a favor from Tony Stark. Some things couldn't be measured in money. "I don't have an identity, so I'd like you to help me get documentation so I can live in the U.S. That's all."
"That's it?" Tony was surprised as he looked at Tohka, unsure what to say.
For most people, this request might pose a challenge, but for Tony, it was ridiculously easy. To him, it didn't even count as a favor.
"Yes."
"Leave it to me. It's no big deal." Tony patted his chest confidently, acting as if this were nothing more than a minor errand.
"Alright, since you agreed, I'll leave it to you." Hearing Tony's response, Tohka nodded without hesitation. As long as the identity issue was resolved, earning money wouldn't be a big problem.
"Halvanhelev, the Final Sword." To ensure the commotion was big enough to alert the U.S. military, Tohka summoned her throne.
She summoned her throne, which, under the astonished gazes of the two men, slowly shattered and fused onto Tohka's celestial sword, Mirashō. A giant sword, over ten meters long, appeared in her hands.
"Haah!" Tohka swung her enormous sword repeatedly, sending waves of energy across the desert. In an instant, the terrain within a hundred-meter radius was utterly destroyed.
Not only that, but the rising sandstorm blotted out the sky, forcing the two men to shield their faces with their hands.
"Alright, done. I'm sure someone will notice soon, and we'll be out of this wretched place in no time," Tohka said, satisfied with her handiwork.
Looking proudly at her work, Tohka was confident that her signal could be seen from miles away. Tony's buddy should already be on his way with help.
"Isn't this a bit excessive?" Tony muttered as he stared at the completely wrecked landscape and the sand shifting to fill the massive sword marks.
Tony now had a brand-new understanding of Tohka's power. If she ever unleashed this in a city... Just the thought made him break out in a cold sweat.
Thankfully, he could tell that Tohka, while a bit naive, wasn't a bad person. Back at the terrorist base, she hadn't killed anyone.
That was why, despite knowing the potential danger she posed, he still agreed to help her. He also realized that Tohka needed guidance to avoid going astray.
"Wasn't this the big commotion you wanted? Did I do something wrong?" Tohka asked blankly, staring at the two men. She'd never been much of a thinker in her old life, and after becoming Tohka, her intelligence seemed to have hit a new low.
"Forget it. Just change your outfit. Dressed like that, I won't be able to explain anything," Tony said, rubbing his forehead in exasperation.
"No problem." Hearing Tony's request, Tohka's armor slowly dissolved. In its place appeared a casual tracksuit, leaving the others stunned.
"What kind of gear are you carrying? It even has a costume change function?"
"Costume change? No, my clothes are made of spirit energy. Look." As she spoke, Tohka tore a small piece off her sleeve. The fragment dissolved into faint specks of dust as it lost the support of her spirit energy, vanishing completely.
"What is this even?! Ahhh!" Tony's inner scientist went into overdrive. According to the law of conservation of energy, this shouldn't even be possible. Where was this material coming from?!
"Alright, Tony. Stop obsessing over it. It seems someone's coming, but they're too far away to tell if it's the U.S. military."
Dr. Yinsen pulled Tony out of his spiraling thoughts and pointed into the distance. At the edge of the horizon, a few small black dots were approaching their direction, though they were too far to make out clearly.
"It's the U.S. military, no doubt about it." Using her extraordinary eyesight, Tohka could clearly see the insignias on the planes and the uniforms of the pilots.
"Ah, we're finally saved." Hearing Tohka's confirmation, Tony flopped onto the sand, staring up at the sky. He didn't even bother questioning how Tohka could be so certain—too much had happened today, and he was numb to it all.
At this point, even if a god suddenly appeared, he wouldn't find it strange anymore.
As the plane landed, a Black soldier jumped out and ran straight to Tony, who was lying on the ground.
"How's it going? Still enjoying your fun Jeep ride?" The soldier couldn't resist teasing Tony, relieved to see him alive despite his disheveled state.
"By the way, who's this?"
After confirming Tony was fine, Colonel Rhodes turned his attention to the others, especially Tohka. Unlike the disheveled pair, Tohka looked pristine and strikingly beautiful. It was impossible not to notice her.
"It's nothing," Tony quickly said, shooting Rhodes a look.
