Toneri in DC

Before the ruin could consume Darkseid, the titan did something. Toneri felt it, whatever it was it made him feel weird and then Darkseid was simply gone. A portal? No… Toneri's senses didn't register the familiar signature of a boom tube.

"Where… is he?"

Space began stitching itself back together, the void's door reluctantly closing, leaving only scars where Uranus and Pluto once were.

And then without reason Toneri's vision blurred.

'Impossible.'

His heart quickened at being affected by something from the dark god, his instincts sharpened. This should not be happening, in his current state there was little that could affect him.

And then a voice spoke to him. It was a soft and gentle voice that he could not forget.

"Why are you doing this for them?"

Toneri turned and froze.

Hinata.

Wearing the wedding robes from that day… the day he tried to force a future that wasn't meant to be.

"Impossible…"

Yet here she stood, serene, eyes filled with something between sorrow and accusation.

"Why are you helping the humans? Shouldn't you be finding your way back home?"

Toneri's voice trembled.

"I am. But… for now, they need me."

Her gaze hardened.

"You'll never be Naruto you know. So stop pretending you care… we both know you don't really care."

The words struck like a kunai to the heart. Before he could respond to her words, another voice older, softer, but no less cutting.

It was Otsutsuki Tenji, one of the elders who had raised him, like a father.

"What a disappointment. If I had known you would lack the resolve to finish a simple task eradicating a world that strayed from Hagoromo's vision I would never have invested in you."

Toneri's chest tightened as the words carved through him.

And then another figure appeared.

Hamura.

Toneri's breath caught.

"Hamura-dono…"

Hamura stood, staff in hand, his six Truth-Seeking Orbs hovering quietly beside him. His eyes swept the devastation the absent planets, the scarred void.

He shook his head in utter disappointment.

"I warned you. I warned you of the weight of your Tenseigan Chakra Mode's power. And now… this is all you can do? Destroy. Nothing more."

Each word a hammer blow to Toneri's heart.

"Perhaps I was wrong in saving you from that prison. Perhaps you are no different from our savage kin… consuming, destroying… nothing more than a beast in divine skin."

Toneri felt as if the air itself had turned to stone in his lungs. This isn't real, Toneri knew it wasn't but still…

And then one more voice.

"You're no better than Momoshiki. Or Kaguya."

Toneri's head snapped around.

"Naruto?"

"You're just pretending. Pretending to care. Pretending to protect them. You don't fool me, Toneri. You're nothing but another monster wearing a mask. A parasite who talks of peace while dealing in destruction. How are you any different? How are you not worse?"

"You tried to steal what wasn't yours. Hinata's heart. The Earth's future. And now you want to act the hero? Don't make me laugh. You don't deserve to speak my name."

Hinata added softly,

"You don't deserve me."

The shadows deepened over Toneri's eyes. His grip tightened on Lunaria, trembling as shame and sorrow warred within him.

And then "You're not them."

Hamura blinked, confused.

"What?"

Toneri raised his gaze. His eyes burned not with sorrow now, but clarity. And rage.

"You are not them. Not even their shadow. You're a mockery. A perversion. And… it worked. You made me doubt myself. But no more."

He took a breath that seemed to steady the cosmos.

"How can I change? How can I grow if I let phantoms dictate my heart?"

He looked to Hinata.

"The real Hinata… her kindness would extend to all, no matter how strange or unknown. She would help, no matter the cost. And I never deserved her heart." He smiled while thinking of Hinata who showed him kindness even after he tried to destroy her home, took her sister's eyes and tried to kill the man she loves.

He then looked to Tenji "The real Tenji… would have trusted me. Guided me. Not belittled my choices like a tyrant pretending at fatherhood."

And to Hamura "The true Hamura-dono warned, yes. But he believed in redemption. He knew power was a burden, not a sin. He would never call me kin to those beasts."

Finally, his gaze fell on Naruto.

"And you… you are the farthest from the real Naruto. His compassion could reach the blackest heart. His hand would have been extended, not clenched in accusation. You're not worthy of that face. You're a parasite wearing his skin. He… he freed me from my own destruction. And you mock him."

Toneri smiled peaceful now. He closed his eyes. A pulse of chakra thundered outward, cleansing the illusion, washing away the fakes like dust in a storm.

When his eyes opened. There stood Darkseid. Bloodied, Burned and bruised. His frown deepened.

'He broke out of the Omega Sanction…'

Before the thought could finish Toneri smirked. And moved at Light-speed.

Darkseid surged to meet him but at the instant of impact, it was not Toneri who collided with the dark god. The long-banished Yasogami Kūgeki that was phased away reappeared as thousands of massive emerald fists raining down on Darkseid, driving him back, battering him from all sides.

Where Toneri emerged, his form flickered Tenseigan Chakra Mode struggling to hold, his energy nearly spent.

The Truth-Seeking Orbs at his neck-halo pulsed then merged, forming a single black sphere. Condensing his Tenseigan Chakra Mode into his body, Toneri holds one finger in the air, causing Truth-Seeking Ball to move and vanished from his side.

only to appear behind Darkseid as he fought off the emerald fists. The orb unfolded like a flytrap, snapping wide.

Darkseid sensed it and tried to flee. But Toneri's Zero State Quantum Break activated again, draining what little chakra he had left. His cloak flickered, but time bent to his will. Lunaria vanished allowing Toneri to focus all remaining strength into sealing.

Darkseid froze. A cube of pure black chakra locked him in place. His Omega Beams lashed out but the cube devoured them, snuffing out the fury of Apokolips.

The cube compressed. Black mass coiled tighter, binding Darkseid, swallowing his power, drawing all mass into itself.

And then It became a prison. Darkseid the New God, the destroyer of worlds was trapped in the dark heart of Toneri's will.
