Torn between passion and power

Avery smiled at the male employee, who she followed, Dave, Alex's assistant. Entering the room and seeing the person seated, Avery choked on her saliva, she coughed trying to clear the awkward atmosphere. Seeing this, Dave gave her a glass of water, which made Alex's face darken. He glared sharply at his assistant before looking at Avery. Alex gave her a mischievous smile when he saw Avey's confused look. Alex leaned against his leather chair and raised his right eyebrow

" Have a seat?" He said

Avery took a deep breath and sat in front of him, she scoffed before saying;

"You're going to interview me?"

Alex replied with a smile on his face.

"Do you see anyone here?"

" Yes, I can see someone behind me, who is shivering as if you are going to pounce on him". Avery replied sassily

" You are late and I hate lateness" Alex said changing the topic.

" So? I'm not qualified for the interview." Avery asked

Dave coughed behind her, he loosened his tie.

" She's first " Dave muttered to himself

They started the interview in a tense atmosphere, the time flew and Alex asked Avery some questions.

" Files, " Akex said

Avery nodded her head, she opened her bag and cussed;

"Shit! I left my files at home."

"Don't cussed in my office ".

Avery looked at Alex with confused eyes, she had nothing to do but ask;

" Will I still get the job if I tell you I left my files at home?"

Alex found her changed behaviour strange. He eyed her before saying;

" Under one condition."

" What condition? " Avery asked looking at him suspiciously

" Serve me, and you know what I'm talking about".

Avery looked at him, her eyes were full of disgust

"I'd rather go to hell than serve you." she angrily said.

She took her bag, flipped her hair backwards and left the room.

" Follow her " Alex ordered Dave

Dave rushed outside and followed Avery in haste, he stopped in his tracks when he saw Avery making a call. Avery looked at the caller's ID and bit her lip slightly, the phone for a while before she answered it.

" Hello?"

" Avery, Hi, I called to inform you about your mom's condition. The good news is she is getting better, so there's no problem worrying" a male doctor informed her.

Avery released the breath she was holding and sighed;

"Thank you so much, doctor, I appreciate whatever you've done for my mom"

The other person gave a low chuckle, before saying;

"You don't need to thank me Avery and I've been telling you countless times to call me by name, it's Charles." he seriously said

" Okay, I'm sorry," Avery said before disconnecting the call.

After she was done with the call, she raised her head almost kissing a handsome guy's forehead. She pulled her head backwards and looked at the guy who smiled at her before apologizing.

Dave who was standing not too far from Avery, called his boss.

" This is not good ". Dave said to himself before calling Akex.

" What happened". Alex asked, he was waiting for Dave's call.

" Umm, sir, Mr Samuel is speaking to Miss Averynesr the receptionist desk"

" Make sure they don't talk for more than two minutes, or drag her to my office".

" I don't think she'll follow my orders, sir" Dave stammered

"I'll be there in the next 10 minutes, "Alex said before rushing out of his office
