Transmigrated? My Cheat is a Random Dice?!

Chapter 16: Polaris Path System

Time passed quickly in the quiet village of Bramblehaven.

Desmond, the transmigrator who had once been trapped in the fragile body of an infant, was now six years old.

He was no longer the crying baby or the toddler who stumbled when he walked. His limbs were stronger now, more agile.

His mind, while still adapting to his young body, had sharpened noticeably. And his speech? It had improved tremendously.

Though, every now and then, he'd accidentally let slip modern terminology from his old world, which always left his parents scratching their heads in confusion.

That afternoon, after lunch with Celestine and Cassian, Desmond returned to his room.

His belly was full from his mother's cooking, which, although still rather bland by modern standards, had become a strange source of comfort for him. Something warm. Something steady.

He gently closed the door behind him, letting out a long breath. This was his time, his personal sanctuary for training and reflection.

Desmond took position in the center of his room. He raised his right hand, palm facing forward, his eyes locked onto a single object resting on a high wooden shelf across the room: the book Codex Polaris, the treasured manual gifted to him by the village blacksmith three years ago.

Ever since receiving that book, Desmond had dedicated himself to its contents—studying its diagrams, internalizing its philosophies, memorizing its formulas. Even if his brain processed information at the speed of a child's, his adult soul was relentless, unwavering.

"Open Polaris Path," Desmond whispered, his tone focused and calm. "Inertia Plus."

A tiny spark of silver light flickered to life in the center of his palm. It shimmered gently, barely visible, but undeniably present.

That single flicker meant one thing. He had activated the Polaris Path.

The warmth of energy flowed faintly from deep within his core, pooling outward to his hand. It wasn't overwhelming, but it was there.

Desmond narrowed his eyes, focusing hard on the book on the shelf. He pictured it sliding toward him, imagined its resistance breaking, imagined the laws of motion bending slightly in his favor.

He raised his hand as if tugging at the book with invisible threads.

The book trembled.

Just a little.

But it moved!

It was more progress than he'd ever managed before. Where once there had only been subtle twitches and meaningless flickers, now there was real movement. The book inched forward, sliding just a couple of centimeters toward the edge.

Thud!

It fell.

Desmond winced as it hit the wooden floor with a dull, disappointing sound. Not quite what he'd hoped for.

He still couldn't pull it all the way to him.

A wave of exhaustion rippled through his small body. Nothing too harsh, but enough to remind him of the cost. The side effect of channeling Polaris Path energy.

He sighed, frustration bubbling beneath the surface.

This was the world's system of power:

The Polaris Path. And Desmond had made it his mission to understand it, no matter how long it took.

From the Codex Polaris, he had learned that the Polaris Path wasn't typical magic. It didn't revolve around "mana" or "essence" like so many fantasy systems he had read about. Instead, it followed pseudo-scientific principles. Physics-like laws bound to two poles—positive and negative—forming a structure that was surprisingly logical. Almost too logical.

Why did it have to be physics? Of all things. I flunked that back in my world.

He groaned inwardly.

Why couldn't I have transmigrated into a world where the power system revolved around something like... drawing? Now that I might have excelled in.

According to the Codex, the Polaris Path had been invented by a legendary figure known as Grandmaster Polaris. Someone who, supposedly, had achieved enlightenment by studying the energy and natural forces of this world.

There were five primary paths within the Polaris system, each known simply as a "Polaris." Each one focused on a specific kind of physical manipulation:

The First Polaris: Inertia.

This allowed users to manipulate an object's tendency to remain in motion or at rest. With Inertia Plus, you could move a stationary object. With Inertia Minus, you could stop something in motion.

The Second Polaris: Conduction.

This was the power of energy transfer. As he'd witnessed from the blacksmith, Conduction Plus let users channel heat or kinetic energy into something, causing it to heat up or move. Conduction Minus did the opposite—absorbing energy and cooling things down.

The Third Polaris: Resonance.

This focused on vibration and frequency. Resonance Plus increased an object's vibration, possibly to the point of causing structural failure or high-frequency effects. Resonance Minus could dampen or nullify vibrations entirely.

The Fourth Polaris: Local Gravity.

Just like his mother's ability. Gravity Minus reduced gravitational pull, making objects lighter or allowing levitation. Gravity Plus intensified gravity, making things heavier or pinning enemies down.

The Fifth Polaris: Energy Contraction.

This was the most advanced and complex path—concerned with the compression or expansion of energy space. He wasn't quite sure what it truly meant yet, but Desmond had a hunch it involved things like teleportation or spatial warping. Far beyond his current skill.

Maybe… just maybe… if I mastered all five Polaris paths… I could carve a path home.

Desmond had read the chapters again and again, each time with growing fascination. It wasn't fantasy fluff. It wasn't vague or mystical. It was a structured, almost scientific power system that made sense in a way that deeply resonated with the part of him that craved logic and clarity.

Still, for now, he wanted to focus on mastering the First Polaris: Inertia.

His short-term goal was simple: the ability to move objects without touching them. A basic utility skill, sure, but in a world where power could mean survival, even the basics could tip the scales.

And perhaps, one day, that single skill would open the door to something far greater.
