Transmigrated? My Cheat is a Random Dice?!

Chapter 7: The Friendly System

"This doesn't make any sense! I don't want to be here! Send me back!" he screamed again, though all that came out was the pitiful wailing of a baby.

His mind was in turmoil, roiling with anger and a sense of injustice. He missed his home. His family, his friends, even his boring job.

At the height of his frustration, a wild idea popped into his head. An idea born from the thousands of fantasy novels he had read, novels he'd often mocked for being so cliché. The System.

Yes, usually there would be a System that appeared to help a transmigrated protagonist. A voice in their head, an interface giving them stats, quests, and rewards.

Maybe… just maybe, this was his only way out. If a System existed, he might become strong enough to figure out what was going on. And, most importantly, find a way back to his original world.

Hesitant, but desperate, he tried. "System?" he whispered in his mind.

Nothing happened. He tried again, this time with more force, more urgency. "SYSTEM?! ARE YOU THERE?!"

Silence. Nothing but the creaking of the old cradle and his own ragged breathing. Disappointment began to creep in, sinking its claws deep. Was he wrong? Had he gone insane? Or was this world even worse than those trashy novels. So pathetic that it didn't even have a System? If that was the case, maybe he should've just taken that damn crow's offer!

"SYSTEM! DAMN IT! IF YOU EXIST, SHOW YOURSELF! I NEED YOUR HELP, YOU BASTARD!" he screamed in his heart, this time tinged with rage and raw despair.

Suddenly, as if by magic, a soft silvery light began to glow above his cradle.

The light coalesced, condensing into an object floating in midair. It wasn't a flat game-like interface window, but something alive, expressive.

It took the form of a shimmering ball of light that constantly shifted shapes, sometimes a tiny cloud, sometimes a smiling face, sometimes a twinkling star. A cheerful, high-pitched yet gentle voice echoed directly in his mind.

"Oooh! Cute Master has finally called for me! Welcome to this world, Cute Master! I am your System, ready to assist you on every step of your incredible adventure!" The System's glowing form looked like it was smiling widely.

He stared at the ball of light, utterly dumbfounded. System? Cute Master? He felt completely humiliated.

This wasn't the cool, serious System he had imagined! This System was… playful. And downright obnoxious.

"Cute Master?! What the hell is that?! Don't call me that!" he shouted internally, his voice seething with furious indignation.

"And what do you mean by 'incredible adventure'? I don't want an adventure! I want to go back to my world! Right now! Send me back there, you damn System!"

The System, now a tiny smiling face, suddenly radiated a sad, droopy aura. "Ooh… I'm so sorry, Cute Master! But I can't do that. Once you've transmigrated, there is no way back to your original world. The process is one-way, like birds migrating south for the winter!"

Hearing the confirmation that there was no going back, his rage reached a boiling point. He squirmed and writhed in his cradle, powerless, but his mind burned with fury.

"What?! There's no way back?! What kind of System are you?! A useless System! A worthless System! A System that can't even do its basic job of sending its user home! Are you just a decorative piece?! A lazy, incompetent System?!"

Desmond unleashed a torrent of curses, words tumbling out of his frantic mind, each one sharper and more bitter than the one before, tearing into the System without mercy.

The System, which had been cheerful moments before, now looked like a tiny storm cloud, shrinking a little and radiating a sad aura.

"Uhm… Cute Master's words… they really hurt the System's feelings… System worked very hard to manifest here…"

But that sadness lasted only a moment before it transformed back into a sparkling star, shining even more brightly.

"But it's all right! System understands that Cute Master is upset! System will still be patient and explain this world to you!"

"This world," the System continued brightly, voice brimming with excitement, "is a magnificent fantasy realm filled with wonder and danger at every turn! This world is called Aerthos! And right now, Cute Master, you are in a kingdom called Avarion!"

"Avarion is one of the largest and most advanced kingdoms in Aerthos! It sits strategically in the center of the continent, bordered by the Elven Kingdom to the north, the mountainous Kingdom of Nornholm to the east, and the mysterious Kingdom of Vailor to the south! Avarion boasts the highest population of any kingdom, with sprawling cities and a prosperous life! Most importantly, Avarion is home to the most prestigious Academy in all the kingdoms, a place where the finest mages, knights, and adventurers are trained!"

The System explained enthusiastically, like a tour guide pitching an exotic vacation.

"At this moment, Cute Master, you are in a charming little village called Bramblehaven!" The System projected a small map into Desmond's mind, a blinking dot marking a lush green area.

"This village is blessed with fertile land, perfect for farming! The villagers are kind-hearted and live peacefully. The village is near the Umbrawild Forest to the west. Be careful, Cute Master, the Umbrawild is notorious for its fierce monsters! And it's also close to the border of the mysterious Kingdom of Vailor to the south!"

Fierce monsters? Damn it! Is this one of those dark fantasy worlds where villages get massacred by terrifying beasts every other week? he thought bitterly.

"Monsters in this world aren't as terrifying as you're imagining," the System continued, as if reading his mind.

"Most villages in Aerthos have sturdy defenses, and the strongest monsters usually only appear deep in untamed forests or atop lonely mountains. Bramblehaven is considered quite safe, Cute Master! Don't worry!"

"And as a welcome gift for your brand-new adventure, System has something special! The one and only gift System will ever give you during your entire journey! A symbol of luck and destiny!"

The System's glow intensified, brighter and brighter, until suddenly, a small object materialized in the air, floating for a moment before dropping gently into his tiny baby hand.

It was a die.

But not an ordinary die—it looked to be made of deep purple stone, with numbers that glowed faintly. It felt cold and solid in his tiny palm.

"Enjoy yourself, Cute Master! System will now take its leave! But System will always be with you, watching from within your mind! Until next time, Bye Bye!"

And with that, the glowing ball of the System began to fade, shrinking smaller and smaller, until it disappeared completely from his sight, leaving him alone with the purple die resting in his hand.

Desmond stared at the die, then lifted his gaze to the ceiling of the small cabin. A tiny flicker of hope began to burn in his heart, even through his frustration.

Maybe… maybe this wasn't as hopeless as he thought. Now that he had this System, now that he had this dice, maybe he could grow stronger.

Maybe he could find a clue. Maybe he could discover a way back to his world.

Not to become a hero. Not to become a villain.

But, this might just be his chance. A chance to defy the fate that had been forced upon him.
