Trap in his Chaos

Chapter 3: The bike ride

After finishing my classes, I headed straight to an interview I had been preparing for as I needed a job soon. The atmosphere was good. It is a small office that had just started. The owner was very friendly and easy to talk too. He did say they will reach to me soon.

As I stepped outside, I took a deep breath, pondering my next move. I was starving and in the mood to grab something to eat, but as I stood on the sidewalk trying to decide where to go, my phone rang. The familiar name on the screen made me smile — it was Dan.

Dan and I had shared the same boarding school for a couple of years. We did have our fair share of mischief in our records, we spent a lot of time together. He is the same year as me, always the one to crack a joke during the most stressful times. It had been a while since we last spoke. I had applied to the same university he got into, but by the time I submitted my application, it was too late to be considered.

"Hey, how's it going?" I answered, trying to hide my excitement at hearing from him.

"Doing well! Just wanted to check in and see how you're doing," Dan replied, his voice light and easygoing as always.

"I'm just trying to figure out where to grab lunch. Got any suggestions?" I asked, a little distracted, still trying to decide on a place to eat.

"Of course, where are you right now? ," he said enthusiastically.

I told him the location, and it turned out to be close to where he was. "No way! I'm not far from there. I'll meet you in about ten minutes," he said and hang up.

I hadn't realized how much I missed his company until now. I waited at the spot he mentioned, watching people pass by as I leaned against a nearby lamppost, feeling a sense of calm settle over me.

True to his word, about ten minutes later, I heard the unmistakable sound of a motorcycle engine. I turned around to see Dan pulling up on his Royal Enfield Hunter 350, he did dril that into my brain when he got that. The deep rumble of the engine growing louder as he approached. He parked the bike smoothly, took off his helmet, and grinned at me. He is wearing his university's jacket with a white tshirt under it and jeans.

"Long time no see!" he called out, his face lighting up.

"Indeed" I replied, smiling as I watched him. "And what about you? Still riding this beauty?" I motioned to his Royal Enfield.

Dan nodded proudly, patting the bike's tank. "Yeah, this baby's my pride and joy. Couldn't ask for a better ride." He flashed me a grin. "Hop on we need to go."

I raised an eyebrow, caught off guard. "Wait, you want me to ride with you…on that….?," I said. The idea of sitting behind him on that again was not good, last time I sat he drow so fast I almost empty my stomach.

Dan chuckled, sensing my hesitation. "Come on, don't be a stuffy."

I shook my head. The last thing I want right not is to not felling well.

"Alright, alright," he said, shrugging and laughing. "I'll won't go too fast."

He handed me a spare helmet, and I reluctantly climbed on behind him. As we took off, I clung to him instinctively, the wind whipping through my hair.

By the time we arrived at the café, I was more relax, my nerves forgotten. Dan parked the bike and looked back at me. "See? Not so bad, right?."

I hopped off the bike, still feeling the rush. "Okay, you were right. That was amazing," I admitted with a smile.

We went inside to grab something to eat, continuing our conversation as if no time had passed. It felt so easy to reconnect, and I realized just how much I missed the carefree days we had shared. By the end, I felt lighter and more relaxed.

"You know, we should do this more often," Dan said as we stood up to leave.

"I agree," I said, smiling.

"Let me drop you off". Dan said.

The sky was already painted with shades of orange and purple, and it was clear it would be dark soon. As it was getting late i did not argue with him again. "Alright, but if you don't want me screaming in your ear, don't drive like a maniac," I warned as I took the spare helmet from him

Dan smirked. "When have I ever driven like a maniac?"

I raised an eyebrow as I climbed on behind him. "Do you really want me to answer that?"

He just laughed and started the engine. "Hold on tight," he said, reviving the Royal Enfield Hunter 350.

The road was quiet, with barely any vehicles around. The silence was comforting at first, but soon, I heard the distant rumble of engines. I turned my head slightly and saw some motorcycles approaching from behind, their engines growling louder as they got closer.

One of the riders suddenly sped up and cut dangerously close to us as he overtook, causing Dan to swerve slightly. My heart leapt into my throat. "What the hell!" I exclaimed, clutching Dan's jacket tighter. I recognised him as he was the one who was talking with Jungkook this morning.

Dan gritted his teeth, clearly taking the maneuver as a challenge. Without a word, he accelerated, closing the gap between us and the group.

"Dan, don't!" I yelled over the noise of the wind and the engine. "They're idiots. "It's not worth it. Let them go!"

But Dan didn't seem to hear me—or he ignored me altogether. The bike roared beneath us as he pushed it faster.

"Dan, seriously! Stop this!" I shouted. "They are just a show off idiot's!"

Dan didn't respond, his focus locked on the rider who had cut him off. The three motorcycles ahead of us sped up, weaving in and out of the empty lanes as if they were in some unofficial race.

I glanced back nervously and froze. The rider wasn't wearing a helmet, and I recognized him immediately. Jungkook. His dark hair whipped in the wind, his sharp features illuminated by the glow of the streetlights. He was trailing just behind us.

My heart sank, and I was suddenly grateful for the helmet obscuring my face. He won't know it is me, the one who spill coffee on him.

Jungkook's gaze flicked to Dan's bike for a split second before returning to the road. He didn't look fazed by the situation, but there was something in his expression—a calm intensity—that made me nervous. Jungkook a moment later also accelerated to catch up with his group.

Thankfully, the four motorcycles soon turn a different direction, their roaring engines fading into the distance. Dan finally eased off the throttle, the tension in his shoulders relaxing as he slowed down.

I let out a shaky breath, my heart still pounding. "What was that, Dan? Are you insane?"

"Relax," he said, his voice casual. "They started it."

"No, you escalated it!" I snapped. "They're just a bunch of show-offs."

Dan sighed, as if I was overreacting, but he didn't argue further. We rode the rest of the way in silence, my nerves still on edge.

When we finally reached the college gates, I climbed off the bike, removing the helmet and handing it back to him. "Thanks for the ride," I said flatly, still annoyed.

"Hey, don't be mad," Dan said, offering an apologetic smile. "I didn't mean it."

"whatever" I said, my voice softer this time.

Dan nodded. "Okay, okay. Lesson learned."

I watched as he rode away, the sound of his motorcycle fading into the night. As I turned toward the dorm, I couldn't shake the image of Jungkook from my mind. It was strange seeing him outside of campus, even stranger that he'd been caught up in something so reckless.

But more than anything, I was relieved as he won't be able recognized me.
