Chapter 171: The Girl's Tears_2
Perhaps his first stop could be Neon City; he was eager to witness the splendor of Akihabara, the holy land of anime.
As this thought became increasingly uncontrollable, the figure of the butler Danny quickly appeared before him.
The butler, stopping half a meter in front of him, bowed slightly and said with a respectful expression:
"Mr. Chu, the security desk called and said there are people at the door claiming to be Dean Lu from Futan University. There are four of them, three men and a woman."
Chu Mo was momentarily stunned; his mind had still been full of thoughts of traveling abroad and was nearly ready to act when suddenly the arrival of Dean Lu posed a new question: who was this person?
He turned his gaze towards the gate of the courtyard, but his view was obstructed by a tall rockery. After a moment, the somewhat aged face of Dean Lu appeared in his mind.
Dean Lu Benqiang of Futan University Life Sciences Institute, one of the top tech tycoons of Hua Country.
Two months ago, he had invested a solid three hundred million in this Dean Lu's research, which had already reached the critical phase three months prior. With Chu Mo's investment, new equipment had been added to the lab, and now he wondered if they had achieved success already.
His thoughts shifted rapidly, and he quickly pushed aside the idea of traveling abroad. Rising from the sun lounger by the pool, he handed the book he was holding to a maid beside him, then instructed the butler:
"Let the guests in."
Danny immediately turned to make arrangements. Chu Mo glanced at his shorts and short robe and felt it was inappropriate to meet guests in such attire, so he headed straight to the villa's main hall.
At the same time, he instructed: Stay updated with empire
"Prepare a set of formal clothes for me. I'll go upstairs to wash up, and when the guests arrive, please entertain them well."
Chu Mo had not planned to go out today, so his dress was very casual. Now that guests had taken the initiative to visit, he naturally wanted to dress up a bit. It wasn't so much that Chu Mo was vain; it was simply the minimum respect due to his visitors.
He ascended to the third floor, where two maids were already preparing his clothing. A maid named Bell helped him out of his short-sleeved shirt, and the blond, blue-eyed Annie assisted him out of his shorts and attended him during his bath.
In just three short months, he had grown accustomed to a life where maids took care of everything. If one day he suddenly found himself without maids, he might really struggle to adapt.
Fifteen minutes later, when Chu Mo took the elevator from the third floor to the main lobby on the first floor, he saw several familiar figures.
They included Dean Lu with his half-white hair, Li Tingting, with whom he had a few pleasant exchanges, and two other somewhat unfamiliar faces.
As Chu Mo disembarked from the elevator, all four, including Dean Lu, got up simultaneously. However, Chu Mo could see a solemn expression on their faces.
Then, the elderly Mr. Lu stepped forward two paces. Coming up to Chu Mo, this man, whose hair had turned mostly white in just two months, sighed deeply. Following that, with a somewhat saddened expression, he said in a heavy tone:
"Mr. Chu, I'm truly sorry to intrude like this. I came here personally because I have some news to tell you."
Chu Mo, who had been relaxed up until now, also composed his expression. He made a welcoming gesture and then sat down in the main seat of the sofa before speaking softly:
"Dean Lu, did you encounter some sort of trouble with the research?"
The man named Lu looked somber; there was a fine hint of red in his eyes, and compared to when Chu Mo saw him two months prior, he seemed at least a decade older.
"Two days ago, we discovered an error in the research, and after discussing it all day yesterday, we came to the conclusion that the entire study must be scrapped and started over..."
The elderly man finished speaking and deeply lowered his head.
Chu Mo's gaze settled on the woman opposite him named Li Tingting. The girl, who once had flowing long hair, had now cut it short, and deep dark circles rimmed her eyes.
When she felt Chu Mo's gaze, the girl, who was usually very strong-willed, bit her lip slightly. Her eyes were slightly red, but she said nothing.
Three years of research had to be scrapped over a minor error, and the girl named Li Tingting had already wasted three whole years of prime time on this project. She was unwilling, angry, despairing, and yet unable to change anything.
Chu Mo, sitting quietly on the sofa, looked unfazed. He wasn't too concerned about the investment of three billion. Just yesterday he had spent over a hundred million on a trip, and a luxury yacht was worth two billion. He wasn't short of money, but he certainly didn't want to be swindled.
Turning his gaze to Danny sitting next to him, Chu Mo said calmly,
"Bring Zhao Ziqi here, have him bring the most elite team from the law firm to Futan University's research lab."
As his words fell, he turned his attention to Dean Lu opposite him and spoke in an even tone:
"Dean Lu, what you should be doing now is not hang your head in defeat but do everything in your power to convince my elite legal team.
You need to explain all the causes and effects to my lawyers and provide them with all the information that can be disclosed, as well as that which cannot. If you can convince my lawyers, I will consider reinvesting, and all research can start anew.
If you can't give me a satisfactory account, then everything will proceed according to the contract we signed initially. Your entire legal department at Futan will be very busy for some time."
Upon hearing his words, a flicker of hope ignited in the eyes of the Dean Lu. The elderly man with graying hair said earnestly,
"Mr. Chu, this issue arose because we didn't have the latest equipment from America before. A problem was disclosed during repeated testing of the previous research...
However, I assure you with my integrity, all twenty-six researchers in our lab, each and every one of us, has acted in good conscience. We have no ulterior motives whatsoever, Mr. Chu, you can rest assured that I will disclose all research details truthfully to the legal team."
Seeing the fearlessness in his eyes, Chu Mo knew that there might truly be a problem with the research itself, rather than it being a ploy against them.
In scientific research, failure is very common. When Chu Mo initially invested the three billion, he also anticipated that it might be for naught, so he wasn't overly surprised upon hearing such news.
He nodded slightly and then said softly,
"Dean Lu, I will have the legal team go to the research lab immediately. Prepare as quickly as possible on your side. Also, ask Miss Li Tingting to stay. I want her to explain the situation from the beginning to the end."
Dean Lu, unwilling to delay, along with two other key researchers, immediately left. The butler Danny contacted the legal team to head to the research lab.
As the hall became quiet, Chu Mo looked at the short-haired woman in front of him and spoke softly:
"I remember when I attended the executive training class at Futan University a month ago, you still had long, flowing hair. At that time, I even said I would cook sweet and sour fish for you."
As Chu Mo spoke, the woman, who already had reddening eyes, suddenly bowed her head, her shoulders trembling slightly, and tears flowed down her beautiful cheeks.
