[TS] Surviving in a Yuri Visual Novel

Chapter 36

I have been adapting to the job of a teacher for almost a month now.

“It’s so boring. Is there anyone who can come play with me?”

There’s a saying that even dreams can become dull when they become a job, and it’s not without reason. Teaching was never my dream to begin with. At least on the battlefield, I never had a moment of boredom. Of course, saying there’s no time to be bored on the battlefield doesn’t have a good connotation. It just means there is always an attacking enemy to contend with. I rolled my eyes.

Before I possessed Charlotte, when I was a student in university, I felt sympathy for the poor professor who tried his best to teach students, including myself.

Professor, what exactly have you been fighting alone? If you hadn’t even suggested becoming a graduate student, maybe our relationship wouldn’t have been so bad.

Ah, now that I’ve become a professor, I understand the hardships you faced. While I was staring blankly out the window from a corner of the faculty office, someone lightly tapped my shoulder, prompting me to turn my head.

Turning around, I saw Leticia’s familiar face. With a playful expression, she said, “Bored, huh, Charlotte? That smells like neglect at work.”

“Have you ever seen neglect at work done this eagerly?”

“…You seem to be getting more shameless as time goes by. Even though you became a woman, that one aspect hasn’t changed.”

“Just because I became a woman doesn’t mean my personality has changed. I still have the soul of Damien Redius.”

To be precise, I wasn’t even Damien Redius, but just an ordinary college student living on Earth. Truly, life is unpredictable. Who would have thought I’d possess a different character in the same novel twice and change gender in the process?

As I shrugged and sighed, Leticia, who had been staring at me intently, suddenly turned her head away.

“I was surprised too. I didn’t expect my lover, who left without a word, to return as a woman. Who would have thought? If I hadn’t asked, you were planning to hide it until the end.”

“…Ugh. I’m sorry about that.”

Feeling guilt from Leticia’s prickly words, I awkwardly scratched my head. I thought everything would end once I cleared all the quests as Damien. So when I received the forced return reward that could hardly be called compensation, I realized once again that I am merely an outsider in this world and that Earth is the only home I have.

So I returned—back to Earth, where I thought I would never see again. In a hometown I believed I had no reason to go back to, I had loving parents and friends but no Leticia. Conversely, here I had close friends and Leticia, but no parents.

I can’t have both. To choose one, I must abandon the other.

It’s a terribly harsh choice.

I had assumed the reason Leticia’s summoning magic failed to bring me here was simply because “Damien Redius has completed all his tasks, so he can’t be summoned.”

I can’t simply believe that this summoning was because Leticia wanted to see me.

There must be some reason behind it.

At the very least, I wish the final quest would be revealed from the start, just like it was when I was Damien. Given that there is already a peace treaty in place, it’s unlikely I would receive a quest to defeat the Demon King like before.

I internally called out to the system.

‘System.’

No response.

‘Hey! I don’t care whether you’re alive or dead, but can you start by letting me know? You must have summoned me for a reason, so don’t leave me hanging. …Hey! Ugh, you little brat.’

It’s just like before.

I can control my skill window and other functions, but the system never responds to me. In this kind of situation, experience tells me the system will be silent for a while. It happened before. Now that I’m calling out to the system, should I check the cash shop and farm some accessories? Just as I thought that, the system appeared.

…Huh?

[Choose.]

I thought it would remain quiet for a while, but it wasn’t. Half curious and half flustered, I stared at the choices the system presented.

[1. Leticia, this may sound sudden, but I have a bad feeling. I think we need to be cautious today.]

[2. There have been suspicious movements from high-ranking Mazoku and their followers, right? The moderate Mazoku who came to deal with the traitor last time. It feels ominous. It seems like something is definitely going to happen.]

[3. Among my students, there’s the candidate for the Hero party… This might sound sudden, but is there really a need to create another Hero party? I’m not criticizing Leo. He has put in effort. I’m just wondering if there’s a point in nurturing a Hero party when peace is ongoing… Huh. Is that a frustrating thought for me? I just wanted to say it. The scars of war haven’t completely healed, and if it’s another war, I’m tired of it.]

So the three options are fixed.

This is a big problem. Each of them foreshadows something serious happening in some way.

I had often been able to explain what would happen in the original story based on my knowledge as Damien, avoiding many situations. No matter which choice I relay to Leticia, I’m sure she will take it seriously.

…The problem is that I no longer know the original story. This character is new to me, and I have no knowledge of any sequels.

Since returning to Earth, I haven’t glanced back at it, so how could I possibly have any information!

This… has no solution.

I could solve them without knowledge of the original; however, it would not be as easy as before.

Damn it. If all my might from when I was Damien had been inherited, I wouldn’t have to worry like this. As I kept my lips sealed in silence, the system urged me to choose quickly, likely getting impatient.

Ah! I know! I realize that whatever choice I make will be disastrous, but why does this system only offer me such choices?! Can’t you at least give me something normal?!

As I vented my frustration at the unfair system, Leticia next to me called my name worriedly.

“Charlotte?”

“…Uh, yeah?! Did you call me?”

“Why are you so surprised? Is something wrong? Your complexion looks pale.”

“Pfft. What are you talking about? Have you forgotten I’m half-vampire? It’s natural for me to have pale skin as a dampir. Ha… haha! Such unwarranted concern.”

I must not reveal any anxiety. Leticia is sharper than most experts regarding me. She is the one with unimaginable otherworldly power who tore apart dimensions to summon me. If any hint of my feelings surfaces, she will notice right away.

So, I need to stay calm. I subtly wiped the sweat from my forehead while pretending to smooth my hair and forced a grand smile.

‘…Did that go well?’

I glanced at Leticia and swallowed hard.

I really didn’t go well. She narrowed her eyes and looked at me with a suspicious expression, showing no sign of understanding. On the contrary, with her arms crossed, she seemed to be silently pressuring me to confess the truth as if I had to come clean about everything. I sighed internally multiple times.

This is why quick-witted people are… unavoidable, I guess.

Unable to resist the system’s urging, I pretended to flip my finger and chose option 2.

Option 1 sounded too much like a cult prophet, and option 3 seemed like foolish nonsense, so option 2 seemed the most sensible.

Upon selecting option 2, my mouth opened automatically, and I spilled out words.

“Recently, there have been suspicious movements from high-ranking Mazoku and their followers. The moderate Mazoku came last time to deal with the traitor. It feels ominous. Something seems likely to happen.”

Damn.

I mentally recoiled at my own words.

Even though it wasn’t my speech, having someone else express it through my body was indeed disgusting. Given the circumstances, I was just hoping that these words wouldn’t be the start of something troublesome. Leticia frowned at my statement, but soon sighed and rubbed her forehead.

“Was that the reason you’ve had a dark expression lately?”

At Leticia’s words, I blinked my eyes.

Huh? Have I had a dark expression lately?

I hadn’t.

Compared to the time on the battlefield, or the days when I was pretending to be a college student, the job of a teacher is almost like paradise.

Leticia, while it’s unusual for me, doesn’t your infatuation go too far? It seems you need to filter that out. Of course, I didn’t voice this thought.

I wouldn’t say something like that unless I were crazy. I cleared my throat.

“My face looked dark?”

“Yeah. Didn’t you know? There were plenty of times when I said things and you didn’t hear them. I thought it was just stress from teaching…but it seems I shouldn’t have brought you into it after all.”

Overprotective much!

I gasped.

“Wait?! No! Why did the conversation turn like that?! Even if I tried to lie, that’s a serious misunderstanding! I was just zoned out because teaching is too comfortable. It’s a bit dark to express it that way… Besides, being in an office sounds nice but my body is getting sluggish. I’m still a knight, you know? Sometimes I need to fight on the field.”

“Absolutely not! For now, focus on your work as a teacher. The negotiations with the Mazoku will be handled by Leo, me, and His Majesty, so you don’t have to worry about that. Okay? Charlotte. You don’t have to push yourself like before. So this time, please listen to me… Uh?! This is!”

Leticia’s words were cut off. At that moment, I felt a powerful and ominous mana from outside, and the academy shook.

Wow. That’s crazy. They’ve set the flag properly for me.
