Chapter 35: The Governor
It was also from then on that Milton discovered that Philip's character became increasingly strange. When he was in the shelter he was a very kind and gentle gentleman, but once he came out, he became extremely cold and aggressive.
He often even lost his composure inexplicably and abused the survivors they encountered along the way. Even a few days ago, Milton was found in a bathroom near the survivors' camp. He knew that Philip had killed him, because he was very familiar with the scars on the body, which were cut by Philip when he was interrogated.
Milton gradually began to be afraid of this person more and more. He tried to persuade him, but that did not work to control his friend and he got worse and worse.
In this way, Milton watched Philip step by step until today, becoming the leader of this group of survivors! He can safely say that he is the only one who knows Philip's past, becoming his right-hand man.
In the eyes of these survivors, Philip is an intellectual, rational, powerful and perfect leader, but in Milton's eyes, Philip is really crazy!
Today he knew Philip was looking for a place to settle down, he really wanted to have a place to call home.
...
Georgia County, in a place abandoned by people.
Some outsiders came to this place. Some walkers wandering around were attracted by the sound of the convoy, they came out from all corners and slowly surrounded the convoy.
"Bang bang bang bang bang bang!"
"Bang Bang Bang!"
The convoy's firepower was very strong, and the walkers were wiped out in no time. All the people jumped out of the cars, and a handsome white man walked in front of the group, pointing to the two passages at the front and back of the community
After looking around for a while, he ordered, "Call everyone out, get off the bus and divide into two groups. One group will block the street with the two buses, and then the small surrounding exits must be sealed. The other group will be in charge of clearing the walkers in the surrounding area, pay attention to your safety!"
From time to time, sporadic gunfire could be heard from all sides. Philip stood on the street outside the community center, watching the people rushing in and out to clear the various houses. Survivors who were not passing by waved to him, and Philip smiled and nodded as he saw that all was going well.
The cleanup went on for a whole day, and in the evening, everyone finally went through the entire community.
That night, everyone sat around the campfire and ate all kinds of canned food collected along the way.
Philip didn't eat, he just held an open can and looked at the people present, the orange light reflected off the dirty faces, but they couldn't light up their eyes, there was an emotion that disgusted him very much.
He did not want to live in such confusion, he missed the kind of life he used to have before everything that was happening today. Thinking about this, he handed a can to Martinez who was next to him, the latter was surprised and unconsciously took the can, only to see Philip standing up.
"Crack! Crack! Crack!"
Slow, rhythmic clapping attracted everyone's attention, and the scene suddenly fell silent.
"Do they really think living like this counts as living?"
As he spoke, pointing to the canned boxes on the floor, Philip's deep voice continued, "Eating this expired stuff every day, hiding over and over again without stopping, just look at how we look now. Does anyone remember when was the last time they took a bath? Where was the last party they had?"
"Do you think we should live like this in the last days of our lives?"
Martinez put the can down in his hand and said, "Philip, the world has changed, this is what the end of the world looks like!"
Hearing Martinez's words, Philip seemed to be stimulated, his tone suddenly became louder and he replied excitedly, "No! I don't think so! Why can't we build a community like it was before the end of the world?"
Philip walked to the front of the fire and looked at the crowd with piercing eyes. The fire was reflected in his face, and the crowd saw that his eyes seemed to be burning with angry fire.
"Is there anyone here who doesn't want to be able to sit at home and eat a leisurely meal every day?"
"Is there anyone here who doesn't want to live a clean and peaceful life every day?"
"Is there anyone here who doesn't want their children to grow up happy and the elderly to grow old with peace of mind?"
Each prayer was like a knife, piercing the pain in people's hearts. Some people began to show longing eyes, put the food in their hands and some people began to stand up sparsely.
Philip walked over, pointed to one of them and asked loudly, "Do you want this kind of life?"
"I do!"
Philip pointed to another person and continued shouting, "What about you, do you want that kind of life?"
"I surely do!"
Philip opened his arms, looked around and shouted louder, "All of you, answer me! Do you want this kind of life?"
"We want it!"
"Of course we want it!"
After a moment of silence, everyone stood up one after another with shouts full of excitement coming out of their mouths. Philip looked around and saw the flames shining in the eyes of all these people!
Seeing the excitement of the crowd, Martinez also shouted, "Philip! Philip!".
The shouts of the crowd gradually unified and the cries of the crowd echoed throughout the community.
Philip pressed his hands together and everyone's voices gradually became quieter.
But everyone still looked at him with eyes full of expectation.
"Don't worry, I will do my best to make that dream come true, now listen to my plan."
In the next period of time, Philip clarified the division of work duties for everyone in detail.
The community they lived in was a relatively luxurious community before the end of the world, and the surrounding support facilities were relatively complete, including water sources and filtration systems, there were clinics among other things.
Currently, there are many things missing from the community. For example, the outer wall needs many materials so that they can be strong, stock up on food, gasoline and find commonly used supplies and many more things.
Under Philip's leadership, the community developed gradually. As the community grew, it also absorbed some new survivors, and everyone slowly became addicted to this illusory satisfaction.
No one wants to wake up from this beautiful life, and the decaying outside world has become a kind of surveillance. Walkers everywhere make the survivors of the city unwilling to face the outside world.
In this way, Philip has completely dominated the city. When he was in the city, Philip enthusiastically helped everyone in need and went out frequently. Every time he returned, he brought a large amount of supplies, which made the civilians of the town feel better about this gentle and elegant person.
To the outside world, only Milton and Martinez, who went out for supplies, knew the true face of this man, like a poisonous snake! He can kill all the survivors he finds without changing his face and then steal those people's supplies, or he can lower his stance when he encounters a powerful enemy and kill the opponent the moment the opponent lets his guard down.
But the generous treatment still made these people choose to keep quiet. No one will talk about these things about Philip in the community. They understand that it is impossible to change Philip's glorious image in people's hearts with words alone. People even affectionately call him "Governor."
Right now, Philip, who is "The Governor" in everyone's mind, is sitting in a secret room next to his own bedroom.
On one side of the secret room is a rectangular fish tank that can cover the entire wall. In the other room, lived his sick daughter...
