Chapter 19: Chapter 18 – "No Questions Tonight"
The cool night air kissed Meilin's skin as she descended the steps outside Zhao's apartment building. Streetlights flickered above like distant stars, casting golden shadows on the quiet road.
Down below, leaning against his sleek black car, stood Ryu Xian—arms folded, jaw tense, eyes trained on her.
She smirked, tossing her hair back.
"Ryu… are you waiting for me?" she asked playfully, one eyebrow raised.
He didn't reply. Just stared.
With that same bold confidence, Meilin walked straight toward him—and without waiting for permission, opened the car door and slid into the passenger seat like she owned it.
Ryu blinked, stunned for a moment. "What the hell…"
Still silent, he walked around the car and slid into the driver's seat, shutting the door with a soft click.
"What were you doing up there?" he asked finally, voice quiet, but edged with jealousy he couldn't hide.
Meilin leaned her head back, a sigh escaping her lips.
"Don't even ask. It's frustrating, really…"
Before he could question further, she turned toward him, eyes glinting, and lifted her slender finger—pressing it softly against his lips.
"Shhh…" she whispered.
"Don't ask anything right now."
His breath caught in his throat. The closeness. Her perfume—sweet, spicy, and addictive—wrapped around him like a drug. The way her eyes lingered on him made the world outside blur.
Her finger slowly slid down from his lips… brushing along his jaw.
And then—she leaned in.
Their lips met.
Soft.
Warm.
Unhurried at first… like a secret they were sharing for the first time. But then it deepened.
Her hand cupped the side of his face, and his fingers curled around her waist, pulling her closer across the center console.
Their breaths mingled. Her lips tasted like cherries and fire.
Ryu tilted his head, kissing her harder now—his frustration melting into hunger, into desire he didn't even try to hide anymore. Her fingers tangled in his shirt, pulling him closer like she needed more.
She shifted slightly in the seat, now practically straddling the edge of the console, breathless but bold, lips brushing his cheek as she whispered:
> "You still want to ask me questions, Ryu?"
He looked into her eyes—dark and glittering like midnight water—and for once, he didn't answer with words.
Just another kiss.
One filled with everything he wasn't ready to admit.
And everything she wanted him to feel.
