Type-Moon: God of War

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Dreaming Big

[3rd POV]

The mystery from the Age of Gods is completely different from the mystery in later generations.

The magecraft of later generations was created out of necessity as the vast source of magical power gradually depleted.

This required a very complicated process: they had to go through a complicated process where they first used religion or knowledge to set up a magic system in the world.

Without this, magus from later generations, who didn't have much magical power, couldn't use magic in a world where magical energy was depleted.

The mystery from the Age of Gods was very different because it was from a period when gods walked on Earth.

This magic has always been a continuation of the fragments of divine power from the gods themselves. They don't require magical circuits, rituals, or complicated offerings, just knowing the incantation is enough to unleash it.

Furthermore, this magic can still be used in later generations because it is directly connected to the root, but only a few possess it.

In an era when humanity had yet to fully be born into the world, the magic from the Age of Gods wasn't even "magic;" it was actually True Magic.

After all, True Magic refers to things that humanity cannot achieve through ordinary means.

In this age, if someone with the right abilities came back from the future, even something simple like a lighter would become "fire magic."

This was both a blessing and a curse for Ares.

The curse part is easy to understand since Ares believed no one who knew the bald God of War would willingly face him.

But the blessing was that in this era, Ares had the chance to reach the roots and explore the mystery, which was much easier than it would be in later periods.

Just like the stone tablet he held in his hand, personally crafted by the Goddess of Magic, Hecate.

Even though it was a beginner's guide to magic, the whole thing was written in the divine language and was full of ancient magic from the Age of Gods.

Ares figured that if he threw these stone tablets into the Clock Tower in the future, they would fight so hard over it...

Fortunately, even though this is temporary, it was a privilege to experience.

As one of the gods, and particularly the highly important God of War, Ares could easily read and understand the complicated divine language.

The content written on the stone tablets was easy for him to understand, almost like reading a simple math textbook from elementary school.

For gods, learning magic wasn't difficult. It was just that many gods, manifestations of divine powers, often looked down on magic as a mere fragment of their powers.

However, for a god like Ares, who was motivated and patient to survive, studying and absorbing the magic was easy.

After receiving Hecate's "beginner's guide," Ares casually found a corner in the tree palace and sat down, quietly reading through the content.

Meanwhile, Hecate, who had turned into a young girl, returned to her hammock, continuing to work on the magical theory she had been writing earlier.

Then, she reached out and tossed the sheets of papyrus she had been working on.

After leaving her hands, the papyrus sheets surprisingly floated in the air. They wrapped themselves up and automatically found a suitable space on a shelf in the tree palace, where they placed themselves neatly.

After finishing all of this, Hecate yawned again and smacked her lips, thinking of taking a nap to refresh herself.

But as soon as she remembered that the hot-tempered son of Zeus was in her palace, she felt uneasy.

She decided it would be best to check on Ares.

In her palace, Hecate couldn't miss Ares' movements and could sense his powerful divine energy standing out like a torch in the dark night.

However, when she passed through the rows of bookshelves and arrived at the corner where Ares was, she was shocked by what she saw.

"Is this really the God of War?"

Looking at the red-haired man sitting cross-legged in the corner, quietly reading the stone tablet, Hecate felt something strange, almost like it was ridiculous.

Even Zeus probably couldn't have imagined this. His most violent son, now sitting quietly in a corner, quietly reading a stone tablet inscribed with obscure and mystery knowledge.

Seeing that Ares seemed to be studying seriously, Hecate didn't disturb him. Instead, she quietly went back to her hammock.

"Maybe he's just staring at the stone tablet."

Hecate muttered to herself while sitting on the hammock.

...

After a day, when Ares came to ask her questions after finishing the stone tablets, Hecate realized that this guy had actually thoroughly read everything on the tablets she had given him.

After answering Ares' questions about magic, Hecate sat back in her hammock, clicked her tongue, and looked at Ares with a puzzled expression.

She asked, "Ares, you really want to learn magic?"

"Of course."

Ares replied without looking up. He was taking notes on a blank piece of papyrus he had asked Hecate for.

"Otherwise, why else would I come here? Wouldn't it be nicer to just stay on Mount Olympus? I can't believe you're asking me this, Goddess of Magic."

Hecate sighed and said, "I just didn't expect the hot-headed God of War to actually listen to me and carefully finish reading those stone tablets."

"Hey, look at what you're saying."

Ares replied, looking up, "Since I've accepted you as my teacher, of course, I'll naturally listen to you, just like on the battlefield. Soldiers must obey their commander's orders. An army that doesn't follow orders isn't really an army, and it's just a bunch of scattered sand."

"Then why do you want to learn magic?"

Hecate asked again.

Hearing her question, Ares once again used Athena as a shield.

"I've already told you! I want to defeat that woman, Athena, and take back everything she took from me."

"Really?"

Hecate's suspicious gaze moved up and down him before she finally looked away.

"Forget it, it's none of my business. As long as you learn magic and don't turn it against me, it's fine."

After a moment of thought, Hecate even grinned and teased, "If someone like you, the God of War, learns my magic, you might actually be able to defeat powerful gods like Athena and Poseidon."

Hecate teased with a grin.

"Really?"

Ares asked excitedly, "Then can I surpass Zeus?"

After hearing that, Hecate pointed at him and burst into laughter.

"You're dreaming."
