Chapter 11: 11
Violet Moon
Chapter Text
The tall man with sharp features and red irises slowly sipped the still warm blood from his wine glass.
He leisurely slumped his legs onto the table as he observed the red moonlight seeping through the window.
'Bam!'
He gently tilted his head as the door burst open.
"S-Sir Vlad! We have caught them! Those underground rats I mean."
His direct subordinate spoke hurriedly.
The man, Vlad, looked at the bright-red drink in his glass and allowed it to spin around.
It left a bloody trace on the glass.
Vlad was laid back as he took another sip.
After enjoying the taste, he looked to the man who stood anxiously by the door.
"Solem, there's no need to be in a hurry, the night has only just began."
He spoke in an unhurried manner.
Calmly, he lowered his legs and placed the wine glass onto the table.
"Where are they?"
He asked and looked outside the window.
His blood red eyes shone even brighter as they reflected the moon.
His subordinate, Solem, who was also a Harvest Priest, spoke.
"They are staying in the empty warehouses, sir. We have already checked the authenticity of the information."
Salem swallowed before continuing.
"A witness has also confirmed that they have been staying there for a while."
Vlad slowly nodded and looked to his right.
There, a crimson tiara sat.
It was elegant and mesmerizing to look at.
After Shake and his partner escaped during the surprise attack, they decided to take them seriously.
Vlad put on a thick, yet stylish black glove and slowly picked up the tiara.
"Very well, let us move."
He spoke before standing up.
Vlad observed his reflection in the glass, he stood at a height of 180 centimeters.
He patted his suit and corrected any wrinkles.
Soon enough, his body turned illusory under the moonlight.
After a set of Flash Teleportations, Vlad appeared before his building.
Vlad owned one of the largest illegal casinos in the Feynapotter city.
Seeing his men gathered together, he smirked.
In total, there were two Sequences 9s, five Sequences 8s, one Sequence 7 and then himself, a Sequence 5.
He didn't bother to spare the men another look.
He moved by the side, not walking directly next to the group.
'The trap is quite obvious, but they couldn't have anticipated our own preparations.'
Vlad glanced at the tiara and, with great care, hid it inside his clothes.
He then took a bottle with pitch black potion and drank it.
Immediately, he became one with the shadow.
His statue soon disappeared and blended into the darkness.
...
Dager continuously side-stepped to suppress his boredom.
From time to time, he would make conversation with someone, but it was always a quick one.
'They just can't handle my 'friendliness''
Dager smirked to himself and once again checked the inside of his cloak.
'I think that seems about right... by the way~'
Dager glanced around in thought.
'Now that I think about it, Juny never actually told us how she was going to intervene... Did she forget? And where is Ellone?'
His eyes narrowed as he scanned the warehouse.
Dager then tilted his head up to glance towards the windows.
Finally, he caught a glance of his sister's shiny-golden hair.
'She's watching the outside like a hawk...'
Exhaling, Dager stretched his legs and moved closer.
"What'cha watching?"
He tried to peek over her shoulder but he only saw the other empty warehouses.
Ellone gave him a glance.
"The sky."
Dager's brows furrowed.
"Why are you looking at the sky?"
Ellone sighed in exasperation.
"Dager, if that Scarlet Scholar activates his Lunar Battlefield, I will immediately notice the change."
Listening to his sister, Dager pointed out.
"But why would he do something so obvious, everyone would notice the changes."
Ellone rolled her eyes.
"Do you see ANYONE else looking outside?"
Dager looked around and shook his head.
"No."
Ellone nodded.
"Then would anyone notice this 'obvious' sign?"
Dager once again shook his head.
"No.."
Ellone pointed outside and posed another question.
"Then, if somehow they did notice, do you think they would immediately understand what it means?"
Realizing that most Beyonders don't have the information on other Sequences's and Pathways's abilities, Dager slowly shook his head.
"No..."
Ellone nodded and looked back outside the window.
Silently, Dager realized just how easy they had it thanks to Juny's knowledge sharing.
He sat down next to his sister and observed the sky.
It was boring, but not as boring as standing still.
Just when the watching began to tire him out, his spiritual intuition stirred.
He saw as the night sky grew blacker and the crimson moon got brighter.
The red light penetrated the windows and stirred his spirituality.
Both siblings immediately stood up.
"They're here!"
They shouted almost at the same time and immediately headed for the doors.
They very well remembered Juny's constant reminders.
'When fighting against numbers, being in an enclosed space is the worst position you could find yourself in.'
The doors burst open.
The crimson moonlight was so bright it was almost blinding.
Dager could feel the tips of his fingers tingling.
His senses heightened to the max and his spiritual intuition felt extremely sensitive.
The next thing he saw was a group of eight men.
Each one was a Beyonder.
A slim man stood in front with multiple different bags hanging from his clothes.
'Is that the Harvest Priest Juny spoke about?'
This thought flashed through his head as he immediately pulled out his dagger.
As someone who needed one hand to create his flames, he usually kept his second dagger tucked away.
As he planned, his legs immediately bent and he jumped to the side.
Ellone wasn't too slow and also moved around the group.
She has yet to see the biggest problem maker, but she didn't dare to bother with him.
He was not her opponent, and, so she didn't dare to cast her eyes onto him.
Their role was to keep the Sequence 8s occupied.
Since their side had three Sequence 7s, two Sequence 8s and one Sequence 9.
This meant that they were outnumbered by two if not counting the two Sequence 5s from each side, hidden in the background.
Technically speaking, they shouldn't lose the battle even with a lower number, but one should never be too confident.
Acting quickly, Dager created three Blazing Ravens and sent them at the group of enemies.
Suddenly, the ground split and thick roots grew out.
The roots seemed especially strong under the scarlet light.
Dager frowned as his Blazing Ravens smashed into the roots and disappeared.
He took a couple of long steps and rushed sideways toward the Beyonders.
Giving him a look, they all took a defensive stance.
Seeing the far-reaching flames rush at them, the group dispersed in order to dodge.
The one, who was the slowest to react, was caught in between two fiery serpents.
As soon as the fiery serpents reached him, they spread across the ground, enclosing him inside a scorching wall.
The man screamed, but soon forcefully tore through the wall and jumped out.
His body was covered in dangerous burns but Dager didn't have the time to finish him off.
Two different men sprinted up at him with guns in hand.
Dager stayed calm and started condensing a fireball in his palm.
With light steps, he predicted the bullets as he bent his back and threw the condensed flame at the nearest man.
But instead of hitting the man, another tough root emerged from the ground.
'What the hell?'
Seeing the man pointing a gun barrel at him, Dager quickly rolled.
Seeing the second one come at him with close combat, Dager frowned.
'Those f*cking roots are really annoying!'
Dager stomped his foot down and rushed at the man with incredible speed.
The man was surprised, but didn't panic.
He covered his head and blocked the dagger aiming for his neck.
Seeing this, the man tried to move back but a force pulled him forward.
The blades were stuck together with thick ice.
Before the man could react, Dager, who had already anticipated it, sent a Blazing Raven while outstretching his leg.
Kicking the man in the stomach, the man basically flew back, and a Blazing Raven aimed for his head.
But then, another hard root emerged and caught the man and pulled him to the ground, dodging the Blazing Raven.
'... Hey!'
Without the time to complain, Dager could only jump to the side to dodge another bullet.
'Unfair...'
Clicking his tongue, Dager looked at the man with a gun and pulled out a Spell Scroll.
Juny's words were clear.
'If they wish to make a battlefield that suits their abilities, then we'll just have to use their abilities.'
Burning the scroll, he appeared directly next to the man.
'Flash teleportation!'
Immediately as he reached for the man, two Blazing Ravens flew out.
Not giving the roots a chance, Dager gripped the man's clothes and stabbed with his dagger.
The man's skin was tough, as if he had scales, but that didn't matter to Dager.
For he had an Enchanted dagger!
The blade sank into the skin and immediately started burning.
Burning with deep Violet colors.
The man screeched as his insides slowly began to burn.
All his blood that touched the flames dissolved into the air.
This was the effect of a strengthened Burn Curse.
Dager didn't wait, he felt the ground beneath him bulge.
He jumped back, pulling out the dagger.
'If there's no blood, Ice Curse activates, but if there is, Burn Curse activates... how did she even do that?'
Not being one to think, Dager shook his head and rushed at the other man.
...
Ellone watched the three Blazing Ravens getting blocked by strong roots.
'Is that the Harvest Priest's doing? He must have a Sealed Artifact.'
On her back, two large, yet stunning bat wings grew out.
At a speed which could in no way be compared to a human, she rushed at the nearest opponent.
He was a tall man, and he had strong charisma.
Ellone felt her confidence lacking, but that's why she rushed for him.
She was strong, that was a fact she was sure of.
This man's destruction of her confidence didn't hurt her battle capabilities in the slightest.
Which is why she chose to get rid of him first.
Ellone's nails grew longer with strange corrosive symbols engraved on them.
The man noticed her running up at him and they locked eyes.
Ellone's inner mind trembled but she pushed it aside.
There were two men around him which took out their guns.
But, Ellone's speed was too fast.
Before they could even take aim, she has long appeared right before them.
She slashed at the tall man.
With great speed, he grabbed his own knife and parred the corrosive nails.
But unlike his expectations, the long nails sank into the blade before immediately spreading rot.
The knife bent before exploding.
Sharp fragments shot in all directions, even at the man himself.
But that was the last of his worries.
He tried to step out of the nails's range, but he couldn't match Ellone's speed.
It was then, that the ground opened and thick root separated the tall man and the corrosive nails.
As soon as the nails made contact, Ellone flinched.
'I can't penetrate it...'
Her nails, which could cut steal, couldn't even scratch the root.
'But the corrosion works.'
With that thought, Ellone jumped back to create some space.
Just then, the two men finally managed to take aim and shoot.
Seeing this, Ellone's black wings dispersed and a group of illusory bats grouped around the two bullets, stopping them.
Soon after that, they flew at the two men with guns.
Ellone, after buying time, rushed back at the tall man.
While doing so, she took out a paper.
There was a strange symbol drawn on it.
She circled around the root and launched forward.
The man bent his knees and twisted his torso, dodging Ellone's claws.
Just then, the shadow beneath him moved and wrapped around the man's legs.
Soon after that, Ellone pinched the paper with an overly-complex symbol.
The corrosion immediately destroyed the glowing paper as the corroded ashes landed on the man.
As soon as this happened, the man's vision turned black, as if he has fallen into the depths of night.
His throat began to itchy and his body temperature rose.
He tried to move his legs but they were still tightly bound.
He trembled but didn't manage to react.
Ellone skillfully dodged the root and grabbed the warm man by his neck.
The man choked and started coughing.
Ellone smiled as another root tried to reach for the man, but it didn't.
A mare root could never catch up to a Vampire.
Ellone pierced the man's neck before throwing him away and rushing towards her next enemy.
...
Vlad watched the fight from the top of a warehouse.
He watched as a Vampire girl split people in two with her Claw of Corrosion.
He saw the Pyromaniac burn his enemies while somehow using powers from the Moon domain.
His gaze moved to the battle between Degster, Natia and Solem.
With the use of the Sealed Artifact, Solem was overwhelmingly strong.
Even so, Degster and Natia weren't being pushed back.
This was all thanks to the immense amount of different abilities they had at their disposal.
Vlad wore a grim expression.
'This is not going as planned... Who knew they would find two Sequence 7s to help them?'
Vlad slowly opened and closed his hand as if he was stretching.
Soon enough, he smirked as his figure merged with the moonlight.
...
Dager jumped up, dodging another clumsy root.
'He seems to be too occupied, the roots are much slower now.'
Dager had a smile on his face.
Strongly gripping his dagger, he rushed forward.
A Flaming Spear appeared on top of his palm.
He was just about to throw it when his overly-sensitive intuition stirred.
Without thinking, Dager threw the spear behind him.
He then immediately twisted his body.
He hissed in pain as something extremely sharp cut through his back.
His body rotated 180° as he looked behind.
'Nothing?'
Dager stayed vigilant as his hand touched his back.
He touched blood as well as something else.
Alarmed, Dager quickly looked at his fingers.
'A grayish-yellow pus... Corrosion!'
Thinking quickly, Dager grabbed a note with Recovery symbol and set it on fire.
The particles moved and merged with him.
Dager whipped his head around.
There was nothing, noone.
Biting his lip, Dager pulled out a Spell Scroll.
It was a special Scroll made to destroy all invisibility in the area!
Dager burned the paper and looked to his right.
A dark silhouette outlined itself in the dust.
The figure rushed at him while leaving afterimages.
Dager's heart sank.
He quickly sent two serpents his way and tried to move back.
Just then, he felt a pull on his legs.
'Abyss Shackles.'
Dager spent enough time with his Vampire sister to know what was going on.
His hand opened and a large amount of flames burst forth, covering large amount of ground.
Feeling his feet being released, Dager jumped back.
He was just quick enough to avoid having a nail stuck inside his throat.
Dager rolled back and regained his balance.
He firmly held his dagger and observed the Scarlet Scholar.
His opponent's figure flashed before disappearing.
With all his experience, Dager quickly ducked and kicked back.
His kick didn't land on the enemy, but on a transparent and illusory figure made out of moonlight.
'Coward.'
Dager scoffed before jumping backwards and to his feet.
Just as he found his balance, the Scarlet Scholar disappeared again.
Dager's head whipped to the side.
From the right, large amount of bats headed straight towards him.
'Where is that guy?!'
Not daring to delay, Dager grabbed a Spell Scroll and tore it.
A holy light suddenly descended from the sky.
The bats dissipated.
Dager, knowing he couldn't stay still for long, began Condensing a fireball on top of his palm.
He took a step forward and rolled.
He did so just in case, as there were no enemies around him.
He looked around and frowned.
'He can't be invisible...'
Before he could think to a deeper level his shadow moved upwards.
As if realizing something, Dager threw the fireball beneath him before leaping to the side.
A black figure then emerged from his shadow.
Just then, a group of black bats sped up towards him.
As he was in midair, Dager struggled to dodge.
Something firmly grabbed his hand before yanking him back.
The bats missed him and he quickly caught his balance.
He heaved a sigh of relief.
'Ellone finally finished the small fries.'
Thinking that, Dager started Condensing another fireball as he sent out Blazing Ravens.
Ellone, fully trusting Dager to watch her back, rushed at the Scarlet Scholar before her.
Two beautiful black wings emerged from her back and her movement sped up.
Dager put away his dagger and instead created a Fire Spear.
The Scarlet Scholar reached into his coat.
Seeing this, Ellone was on guard as she knew about the large amount of potions her opponent could make.
Her nails grew sharp and the corrosive symbols slowly changed into a certain Runic symbols.
The symbols had a slight white glow to them.
Her opponent took out a fragile and translucent bottle with holy-yellow potion.
With just a look, Ellone's instinct as a Vampire warned her.
She should not touch that holy liquid.
Feeling slight unease, Ellone's wings transformed into a group of illusory bats.
She saw the Scarlet Scholar smirk before throwing the bottle forward.
Ellone was sure it would not pass through the bats, but she soon flinched.
The bats didn't move according to her will, they separated and dissolved.
This allowed the glass bottle to pass through.
Ellone shifted her feet to change directions, but her legs were bound by her own shadow.
'This is what it's like to fight against a higher Sequence of the same pathway...'
Feeling disheartened, Ellone saw a spear pierce through the shadow and a transparent purple wall appeared before her.
The glass bottle smashed against the wall before falling to the ground.
Feeling relieved, Ellone jumped back.
Dager, who just torn a Spell Scroll with Juny's Space Wall, watched his sister hurriedly retreat.
He knew even without needing Ellone's instinct, that holy-looking water should not come into contact with a Vampire.
The Scarlet Scholar frowned.
He was unsure where that wall came from or from which Pathway it was, but he didn't ponder for too long.
His body flashed and he appeared right before Dager.
He didn't give Dager even a second to prepare as his long nails dug into Dager's upper body.
Dager's eyes widened.
He felt the pain as his chest getting torn apart in a painful but clean way.
Dager grabbed the hand with claws and immediately sent out two serpents.
The fiery snakes circled around the Scarlet Scholar before flaring up.
Four flaming walls rose from the ground, enclosing the Scarlet Scholar inside.
But the Scarlet scholar didn't suffer much damage, his body soon turned as illusory as the moonlight and he flew outside of the fiery cage with no trouble.
Immediately, Dager grabbed another paper and set it ablaze.
The particles merged with his open chest which soon began recovering.
The Scarlet Scholar then appeared behind Ellone.
Prepared, Ellone's body twisted and her hand moved to pierce through the phantom body.
The Scarlet Scholar didn't bother dodging as, in this form, physical attacks against him were useless.
Instead, he reached out and grabbed another glass bottle.
Just then, Ellone's claws stabbed through his illusory silhouette.
The strange Runic symbols on her nails shone with pure sunlight.
The Scarlet Scholar screeched in pain as the holy light attacked from inside his phantom body.
His body flashed multiple times before finally appearing a few meters away.
The Scarlet Scholar's clothes were torn and burned as his stomach housed an excruciating wound.
Ellone, of course, didn't get off scot-free.
The moment the Blessing of Exorcism activated, her Vampire hand which was filled with corrosion suffered much more damage than the Scarlet Scholar ever could.
Ellone bit her lip and watched her burnt skin peeling off.
Her eyes were slightly damp, but she pushed the pain back and rushed back at her enemy.
She was aware that Enchantment Recovery wouldn't be able to heal her hand fast enough.
And there is a chance that she might suffer the same damage again.
The Scarlet Scholar watched her with enraged eyes.
A large group of pitch black bats flew out from the darkness, carrying a bright golden bottle.
Ellone flinched and jumped in the opposite direction.
Her legs got caught up in her own shadow, but the shadow was weak and clumsy.
It was clear that the Scarlet Scholar was still in the process of recovering.
The glass bottle fell down and crashed into the ground not too far from her.
The Sun Water was sent spraying in all directions.
"F*ck!"
Ellone, who usually kept her vocabulary on the nicer side, cursed out loud.
Her clothes burned straight through.
She felt as if she stood in the middle of scorching heat.
The spots where the Sun Water droplets landed were bright red and bulging.
Charred blood began seeping out.
She was in pain, but Ellone got up nonetheless.
The Scarlet Scholar used this to lift a healing potion to his lips.
At that instant a figure holding a Fiery Spear appeared right next to him.
Dager used a Spell Scroll to Flash Teleport next to the despicable Scarlet Scholar.
His hand, with a repeatedly condensed Fiery Spear, moved as he stabbed it deep into the Scarlet Scholar's torso.
The Scarlet Scholar screamed at an extreme pitch.
Dager instinctively flinched away.
His ears were ringing but his other hand moved without delay.
He was aiming for the man's heart with his now Fire Enchanted dagger.
Just then, the Scarlet Scholar's body disappeared.
Dager warily looked around, yet, he couldn't see him.
After activating his Spirit vision, Dager followed the garnet trail.
As soon as his eyes caught up, the Scarlet Scholar reappeared in the middle of the battlefield.
His body was glowing with bright red light.
The light reflected and saturated the crimson moon.
At that very instant, everyone's blood went cold.
They all immediately stopped, even if their fight was still underway, they stopped.
All the eyes of those underneath the red moonlight turned to the man.
The man had a twisted expression.
His face was smiling but painful at the same time.
His hand was outstretched towards the night sky.
In his hand was a beautiful and hypnotic tiara.
The tiara consumed the crimson moon.
It swallowed it and then shone with even bloodier color of red.
As they saw the mesmerizing tiara, everyone went cold.
It was very pretty, yet their blood went terrifyingly cold.
Many grabbed at their left chest in pain, but their eyes never left the alluring tiara.
Everyone's blood moved in the opposite direction.
Their nostrils and eyes bled.
It was painful, but noone made a sound.
It was when everyone, even the groaning Ellone and vigilant Dager, were captured by the exquisite tiara that a heavy voice sounded.
It was voice filled with blood.
But it was strong.
"Now!"
Most people woke up upon hearing this scream.
Most people who woke up knew what this scream meant.
Degster was the one who's vocal cords ripped when he forced out that shout.
But he was also the fastest to pull out a Scroll and tear it.
Everyone who awoke did the same.
The tearful Ellone also moved her charred hand to rip the Scroll.
That instant, the Scarlet Scholar's shadow boiled.
As if a monster from the underworld was moving to catch him and drag him down.
He flinched.
The Scarlet Scholar found his body fully immovable.
Even through that, he scoffed.
In this moment, his enemies used his spell against him.
They used a Sequence 7 ability against a Sequence 5 of the same pathway.
It was hilarious.
Purely by his own will, the shadow calmed down.
He watched his enemies bleed as their blood flew towards the tiara.
It was a very beautiful scene for a Scarlet Scholar like him.
His hand was freed.
He leisurely placed the scarlet tiara atop his head.
He watched the blood flow towards him.
He watched as... it stopped.
His body froze.
His entire vision turned purely Violet.
The blood immediately stopped moving.
It lazily fell down under the Violet light.
The man, Vlad, whipped his head around.
His blood red eyes reflected the moon.
The moon.
The moon shone with a radiant color.
But that color was not crimson.
A pure and saturated Violet filled his entire being.
A pure black silhouette was outlined inside that vibrant Violet.
The figure was quite short with obsidian hair that spread in all directions like hungry snakes.
The figure's long coat fluttered lightly in the wind.
The figure's eyes shone as its outstretched hand lit with a flame which seemed to contain all galaxies.
Vlad showed panic and he quickly tried to activate his Flash Teleport, but he couldn't.
He felt as if his body was being tightly wrapped.
His spirituality was hectic, moving everywhere, but not listening to him.
As the figure's eyes radiated a Violet glow, its face also got illuminated.
Vlad watched as the figure gave him a smile.
The smile was clear and gentle, as if soothing his emotions.
The figure's small hand moved and Vlad could feel his body growing.
It was growing wider, but his proportions stayed the same.
The elegant figure's lips changed.
They widened, showing a cruel and wicked smile.
Seeing this smile, Degsterk's heart slumped.
He remembered a question a certain innocent looking girl had once asked him.
'Tell me, would you like the death to be messy?'
But now, seeing the cruel smile, he felt extreme unease.
Vlad watched with a petrified expression as the figure's fist slowly opened.
His body struggled in pain and his fleeing vision saw the cruel smile move.
A soft and calm, yet strangely excited voice rung through everyone's ears.
"Boom."
'Spash!'
Vlad's body tore apart, exploding and flying in all directions.
The mesmerizing tiara fell soundlessly onto the ground.
Juny watched this with a smile on her face.
She could feel her body twisting, but she was not done yet.
A large amount of papers flew out from underneath her coat.
They spiraled and turned into small and sharp spears.
With a blink, they all flew down, accurately hitting all living or dead enemies, before setting them on fire.
Juny's insides twisted more and more with each second, but she didn't even notice.
The enemies screamed and yelled as she slowly flew her small body down.
Her feet lightly touched the ground amongst the Violet flames.
Looking around, Juny was excited.
Her potion has already greatly digested.
She stood amongst the flames and waited for the screams to die out.
Degster watched this with a fearful heart.
His eyes locked themselves with the innocent-looking Onyx eyes.
He could vividly remember them shining bright Violet glow.
He looked around at the scorching Violet flames.
He finally looked up.
He saw the beautiful and bright Violet Moon.
