Chapter 305: Not Just an Heir
After the initial outbreak of the war, it was sad to say that progress had significantly slowed.
The Crimson Sun Empire had managed to seize most of the abandoned territory once belonging to the Draconian Empire, but their advance had since stalled.
Instead of claiming empty, deserted land, they now faced enemy soldiers—standing firm, ready to resist with everything they had. And the fact that they were defending their homes and loved ones filled them with determination, even if it meant risking their lives to take down as many enemies as possible before their end.
That didn't mean they couldn't progress further in the empire, it just proved to be much tougher than before.
Making use of the fact that their enemy was fighting two empires at the same time, the Crimson Sun forces would combine into a single force and attacked with all their might, targeting a single city.
Typically, their army was composed of tough swordsmen, skilled archers, powerful mages, horse riders, and at least one member of the council.
Though for a council member to be present, it would mean this particular combined army had encountered some kind of trouble capturing the city they were targeting.
Silver, one of the council members, had been stationed at the newly conquered city, organizing the next offensive.
With most preparations complete, she stood on the roof of a building, observing her troops below. Judging by the confident expressions on their faces, it was clear morale was high.
"This is good, one of the most important things is for the forces to not fear the enemy. Fear, while useful in keeping one alive, will only hinder our progress going deeper in the enemy territory." Her voice carried a certain amount of grace, matching her jade beauty.
"Lady Silver," She turned at the sound of a man's voice. It was the commander of the city's garrison—young for his position, a sign of both talent and merit.
Silver noted his calm presence, something rare among those in constant battle. But even he seemed momentarily lost, staring at her in quiet awe.
"What is it?" she asked, noticing the man who had just called out was simply staring at her. There was a hint of annoyance in her voice. Sure, she was beautiful—but was it too much to hope for a man who didn't get awkward just because of it?
Snapping out of his daze, the man bowed as he spoke. "The forces are ready for the next attack. I request the aid of Council Member Silver."
With a light sigh, Silver jumped from the rooftop and landed gracefully in the street. As she did, it seemed that the soliders in the city stopped for a second, taken aback by her sudden appearance. Then, as their senses slowly came back, they all bowed in unison. "We greet the Council Member Silver!" Their voices boomed with conviction, a clear display of their unwavering confidence.
"The empire thanks you for your service!" Silver shouted, inwardly thinking, 'it won't hurt to boost their mood a little more.'
She was already armored, so with steady steps she began to walk towards the gates of the city they had captured. Another city waited to be taken.

Since this was a recently captured city, only the empire's soldiers occupied it for the time being. As the forces went into formation and set out for the attack, the city was left nearly deserted, with only a few hundred men remaining to guard the borders.
Silver now rode at the front of the army on horseback, the young commander just behind her.
"I was sent because you encountered heavier resistance than expected. According to your report, the enemy was well-organized. Should I assume a member of the Draconian Empire's council is present?"
The man's brow twitched. "No," he replied immediately. If it had been one of their council members, he wouldn't feel ashamed by his failure to capture the city—but unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
"From the info that has been gathered, they are being led by a woman in her early twenties, blue hair and eyes. Sadly, we don't have any information on her. That either means her identity has been kept secret for a long time, or she is a recently appointed leader."
"So, she's quite young?" Silver asked, a hint of surprise in her voice. "Considering I'm needed here, I don't really see the point in asking, but I'll do so anyway. How skilled is she?"
The man tightened the grip on the reins. "My pride feels insulted when I say this, but she is good. She is able to use her troops well, making use of the terrain and weather to stop the advancement of my men. Maybe if we charged in blindly there is a chance to take over the city, as we have a higher amount of troops, but this is something I can't allow to happen as their leader."
Silver brushed her fingers across her neck. 'Now this makes sense. They had trouble getting to the city due to the leadership of their leader. I just wonder, is her expertise only when it comes to leading armies or is she able to fight as well?' she wondered as she licked her seducing lips.
"I suppose I'll find out soon enough," she muttered.
*****
The attacks had paused for the moment, but that didn't mean she had time to relax. Sitting upright with her eyes closed, she took slow, controlled breaths.
Her mind had to remain sharp, not only for her own sake but for her troops as well. If she made a mistake, it wouldn't just be her who paid the price—it would be her men, with their lives.
'I am not just going to take the throne because I am the only heir. I will earn it. I will prove to our people I am worthy!' That thought filled her determination.
A gentle knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts.
"Come in." Sofia spoke gently as she stood up.
The door slightly creaked open and a petite woman with a white mask and blonde hair entered.
"Vera, if you are here, I presume it is something important?" Sofia asked.
Vera nodded before speaking. "A larger force than before has been spotted nearing the city. Not only that, but in the front is one of their council members—Silver. This is going to be a tough fight."
A faint smile appeared on Sofia's face as she stepped forward. "If you say so, it must be true. But… did you see a vision?"
Seeing the interest her friend was displaying in her power, Vera couldn't help but chuckle softly. The sound was pleasing to the ears, so much so that if any man heard it, his heart was going to melt in an instant.
She placed her hand over Sofia's head as she spoke. "Look at you, showing so much interest in my powers. I've seen many visions about this fight. But even without them, there is one thing I can say for sure: you are the one leading our army, so victory is certain."
The moment Sofia heard these words, a confidence began to rise in her soul. "Then let's go, we have a city to defend."
