Chapter 40 - Fire Rain Descends
Chapter 40: Fire Rain Descends
[Elite Desert Lizardman]
Race: Beast/Void.
Level: 15.
Class: Heavy Armour Lizardman Warrior.
Constitution: 71+20.
Mental Strength: 2.
Skills: “Warrior’s Bone Armour,” “Bone Spear,” “War Cry.”
Description: A peculiar race that dissolves easily in water, rendering them nearly defenceless in river or ocean environments.
Two new types of monsters appeared, evidently stronger than the two waves encountered earlier in the afternoon. However, the territory’s defensive capabilities had also improved significantly, making the situation manageable.
The trio, seasoned from prior battles, exchanged glances and split into their respective positions.
The “Human Missile,” Lin Daiyu, as the strongest combatant, took charge of patrolling atop the wooden walls, ready to intervene as needed. Qin Keqing, on the other hand, stayed close to Wu Chi, prepared to manage crowd control at any moment.
Finally, the lizardmen charged into the range of the defensive towers!
The [Fart Towers] were the first to engage. As per their usual strategy, the statues lifted their backsides and aimed in all directions, vibrating ominously.
Pffft!
Pffft!
Pffft!
These defensive towers were not only visual but olfactory weapons. The noxious gas expelled enveloped the entire territory’s perimeter!
In no time, the lizardmen stormed into the foul-smelling zone.
“Gah!?”
At first, their faces were twisted into menacing expressions, brimming with aggression. Yet, as they entered the pungent zone, their features contorted further in visible agony.
Moments later, they let out pained screams, collapsing to the ground and convulsing violently.
The horde of monsters surged forward, but the collapse of those at the front caused chaos. The ones behind tripped over their fallen comrades, creating a pile-up of sprawling bodies.
In the blink of an eye, the front line of lizardmen was reduced to a mass of writhing forms.
However, the sheer number of lizardmen worked to their advantage. Among them, the elite lizardmen stood out with their robust physiques. Bones erupted from their bodies, forming skeletal armour that allowed them to push through the miasma unscathed.
The effectiveness of the gas was undeniable, but it wasn’t enough to halt the entire horde.
Still, it had bought precious time!
Boom!
Flames, frost, lightning, vines, bolts, and gunfire—the defensive towers unleashed a devastating barrage. The cacophony of destruction reverberated across the battlefield, shaking the ground beneath them.
Boom! A fire explosion spell shattered the earth, blasting dozens of lizardmen skyward.
Crackle! Chain lightning arced through the horde, reducing a dozen lizardmen to charred remains.
Creak! Frost magic froze the ground solid, encasing numerous lizardmen in ice sculptures.
While the [Fire Rain Towers] remained inactive, the other defensive towers delivered a relentless assault, carving gaps into the monstrous tide.
In mere moments, at least hundreds of monsters lay dead!
Yet, the lizardmen’s numbers were overwhelming. Fearless, they surged forward, filling the gaps left by their fallen brethren. With bloodshot eyes, they charged through the noxious gas, trampling the corpses of their kin, undeterred by the barrage of spells and arrows.
Their unyielding advance brought them closer to the wooden walls.
Wu Chi observed closely. When they reached a critical distance, he turned sharply to Qin Keqing.
The graceful warrior stood tensely nearby, her palms outstretched. The “Wind and Moon Mirror” hovered above her hands, emanating a faint glow. Noticing Wu Chi’s gaze, she responded without hesitation, unleashing [Frost Breath] with full force!
Simultaneously, under Wu Chi’s command, an array of crowd-control spells, including [Earth Vine Technique] and [Frost Curse], were cast, targeting a dense cluster of lizardmen.
The barrage momentarily stalled the advancing monsters.
“Fire Rain, release!”
Wu Chi’s thoughts triggered the activation.
In an instant, the [Fire Rain Towers] depleted their reserves. Above the territory, streaks of light converged into a dazzling rain.
The scorching downpour descended from the sky. Within moments, countless streaks of fiery light, each a fireball spell, rained upon the horde with overwhelming density!
Splat! Boom! Bang!
The earth trembled as fireballs decimated swathes of the enemy. Hundreds of lizardmen were obliterated in the fiery storm, their blood spraying into the air before being evaporated by the searing flames, leaving behind a thick mist that shrouded the battlefield.
“Not bad at all,” Wu Chi nodded in satisfaction, intensifying his efforts.
The sheer number of monsters made it impossible to eliminate them all in one go, so the defensive towers had to maintain their output over time.
Wu Chi sprinted along the wooden walls, replenishing the defensive towers’ reserves and repairing any damage to the fortifications to prevent breaches. With a plentiful supply of void crystals, he managed to sustain the defences for now.
Under the relentless assault of the defensive towers, coupled with the valiant efforts of the golden-tier heroes Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing, the battlefield outside the wooden walls became a gruesome scene of piled corpses.
The air reeked of decay, fire, and scorched flesh, creating a nearly tangible stench that engulfed the area.
Even the 40 Peppa Wild Boars were forced to join the fray. Though not primary damage dealers, their primary role was to disrupt and delay the enemy. Unfortunately, their combat prowess was lacking. Against the monsters of Day 10, many fell amidst the sea of corpses, suffering heavy casualties.
The night stretched on, second by agonising second.
