Chapter 38: Chapter 37
Yin Xiaoya knew this trip held multiple objectives. Besides unlocking Kamen Rider powers for himself and nurturing young candidates, he also aimed to aid Shrek Academy by finding a suitable soul bone. To help Xiao San find the Yearning Heartbroken Red, a journey to the World Tree was necessary, seeking a soul beast capable of unlocking the Xtreme Memory. Accompanying Su Xuan to the Baimu Trench was also on the agenda, to find the soul ring she needed and, while there, discover a soul beast to fully unlock his Dolphi Wizard Ring. The list of tasks seemed endless.
To facilitate their journey, the academy provided two carriages pulled by spirit beasts, ensuring speed and endurance far surpassing ordinary horses. Seasoned teachers from the higher education department were assigned to accompany them. Despite these preparations, Yin Xiaoya couldn't convince three specific individuals to join them. They all declined his invitation for their own reasons, with one even stating a lack of interest in Kamen Riders.
Yin Xiaoya had anticipated this. After his interactions with these three, the System had analyzed their characteristics, identifying the most suitable Rider types for them. Even without their physical presence, Yin Xiaoya could help them unlock their Rider powers, confident that they would eventually succumb to the allure of Kamen Riders, especially after experiencing the transformative power firsthand.
Su Xuan, ever practical, voiced a question, "If their physical presence isn't required, why bring the other children?"
Of course, it's for points…, a thought that couldn't be voiced aloud.
"Ahem, some things need to be experienced firsthand to truly understand," he replied, offering a vague explanation.
As they spoke, the two boarded one of the prepared carriages, which began to move forward, guided by a fellow teacher. The accompanying teachers occupied the front carriage, while the younger students had already settled into the second one.
Inside the carriage, an awkward atmosphere prevailed, stemming from both unfamiliarity and clashing personalities.
Fang Xin, steady and composed, was also rather reserved. When meeting someone new, she would offer a polite greeting and little else. Ma Hongjun, normally outgoing, felt somewhat inferior in the presence of such gifted geniuses. This made him timid and hesitant to speak. Xiao San, burdened by his secret identity, naturally avoided approaching strangers. Only Tang Wu seemed unaffected, but she was pouting and sulking. Yin Xiaoya's arrival provided some relief.
"So, have you all gotten acquainted?" Yin Xiaoya asked, observing their expressions.
Everyone nodded awkwardly. He chuckled lightly. "Let's loosen up a bit. From today on, we're partners, close enough to trust each other with our lives, just like the Shrek Seven Monsters that Miss Su belongs to."
His attempt at camaraderie only seemed to amplify their restraint. Fang Xin, drawing from experience, offered, "It doesn't matter if you don't understand now. As long as we fight together in the future, you'll understand naturally."
Her words reminded Yin Xiaoya of the scene before their departure. Bibi Dong, Shi Er, and Dai Yin, all members of the Shrek Seven Monsters, had come to see him off. Under normal circumstances, any Shrek Seven Monster needing a spirit ring to upgrade would embark on the journey together, but the Martial Soul Saint Association meeting was only six months away. Su Xuan had already reached level 50, so the others chose to stay and train. They provided assistance within their own capabilities.
Dai Yin, the most affluent, gave Su Xuan a bracelet-shaped soul tool storing his strongest attacking soul skill, capable of being used three times. Bibi Dong created several poisonous needles from her martial soul's venom, advising Su Xuan to carry them for self-defense. Shi Er's gift was particularly impressive.
Shi Er's martial spirit was a star. When activated, his whole body appeared shrouded in a galaxy, containing countless constellations. His soul skill summoned these constellations, bestowing various positive effects. These included a 5% defense enhancement, a 5% sensitivity enhancement, and a 40% poison resistance.
While the individual effects were modest, they could be continuously maintained, and, remarkably, all three originated from the same soul skill. Yin Xiaoya compared it to Ning Rongrong's Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda, realizing that their strengths were truly comparable.
Now, observing Su Xuan interacting with the children, Yin Xiaoya sighed, As expected of Shrek, they're all monsters. He wondered about the capabilities of the remaining three.
"Master, may I ask why I didn't receive any transformation devices?"
Under the soul beast's swift pace, the vehicle covered the distance that a carriage would take an entire day to traverse in less than half the time. They were preparing to stop and rest briefly at the local city's Soul Master Guild before continuing.
At that moment, Xiao San, who had remained silent the entire journey, approached Yin Xiaoya with a question. He had learned that Fang Xin and Ma Hongjun had received transformation props, but he had not. This made him feel somewhat uneasy.
Yin Xiaoya smiled wryly. Because you are so different, he thought. Basically, all the Kamen Rider powers needed soul beasts to unlock, and only a few required human martial souls. Xiao San was a soul beast himself. He could unlock and use a Rider's power on the spot with only the corresponding item. However, revealing his identity as a soul beast was out of the question. Xiao San was different from the other two and needed a Rider power that wasn't naturally suited to him. Yin Xiaoya was still contemplating what kind of power to choose.
"First, I'm not your master, and you're not my disciples. You can call me Senior at most. Second, I haven't found a power that's suitable for you yet, so I intend to observe you during this trip. Does that explanation satisfy you?"
Xiao San pondered for a moment, then nodded in understanding. But Tang Wu protested, "I still don't understand! Why can't I become a Kamen Rider? Am I inferior to everyone?"
The reason for her sullen mood was this very issue. She had been told not to become a Kamen Rider several days ago, and she had been protesting ever since. Yin Xiaoya had explained it multiple times, but she simply couldn't understand.
Considering the tasks ahead, Yin Xiaoya couldn't allow her emotions to disrupt their mission. He decided to play his trump card. With a flash of light, an object appeared in his hand: a wide, flat cartridge, gray and white in color, with a crystal texture in areas other than the handle.
It was a Gashat from the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid series. Unlike the blank Rider items given to Fang Xin and Ma Hongjun, this was the Mighty Action X Gashat, sealing the power of the main Rider, Ex-Aid.
"This… what is this?" Tang Wu asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"The Kamen Rider power that suits you best. Do you know why I told you that you couldn't become a Kamen Rider? Because the power that suits you is too powerful. Even I can't unlock it for the time being. I can let you hold it now, but whether you can unlock it or not depends on your luck."
Yin Xiaoya's statement was half true, half false. It was true that Tang Wu was suited for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid's power. The System's reasoning was that they were both fans, dancers, and used hammers. How could it not be a good fit? The lie was that he could actually unlock the Ex-Aid Gashat now, but the corresponding soul beast wouldn't appear in the area they were traveling to.
More importantly, as a main Kamen Rider, Ex-Aid possessed an unparalleled idealistic power that Tang Wu couldn't control. In the All Kamen Rider system, its data power was the strongest. Even Zero-One, with similar abilities, only partially integrated data power, while Ex-Aid could become data itself. Its debut would significantly impact the Douluo Continent. Therefore, Yin Xiaoya had no intention of unlocking Ex-Aid's power in the early stages.
He was simply showing it to Tang Wu to make her happy. As expected, Tang Wu had no idea what she held. The moment she received the Gashat, she burst into a smile.
Haha, this little girl is really easy to deceive, he thought.
Just then, Su Xuan, who had been gathering information at the guild with the other teachers, approached with a grim expression and gave Yin Xiaoya a knowing look. He walked aside with her.
"What happened?" he asked.
"In the Soul Beast Forest, there have been incidents of evil soul masters attacking ordinary soul masters for several days, resulting in at least thirteen deaths," she said.
Yin Xiaoya was stunned, then his anger surged. "I remember you saying that the Soul Beast Forest is suitable for early-stage soul masters, right? So those who died…"
Su Xuan nodded. "At least eight were children under the age of fifteen."
[Boom!]
Yin Xiaoya punched the wall, unable to contain his rage.
Su Xuan sighed. "The Soul Master Association is now guarding the entrance to the Soul Beast Forest, preventing young soul masters from entering. Those leaving are also subject to strict inspections. The guild is gathering excellent soul masters to crusade against those evil soul masters. Our fellow teachers have decided to turn back. With children here, it's too dangerous. They won't let us in."
Yin Xiaoya shook his head, his expression serious. "It's okay. I proposed going there, but since such a thing has happened, I can't take the children there."
"Good. So, where next? The World Tree or Baimu Trench? Or somewhere else?"
He paused, then said, his voice trembling, "Can we stay and rest today? I haven't decided where to go yet, but I'll decide before tomorrow."
Yin Xiaoya's back was turned, so Su Xuan couldn't see his expression, but his words caused her pupils to shrink. She seemed to notice something, but didn't comment. "Okay, I'll tell the other teachers. The guild has vacant rooms. It's enough for us to stay one night."
"Thank you," Yin Xiaoya said, walking out of the guild.
"Brother Xiaoya! Where are you going?" Fang Xin asked, seeing him leave.
Hearing her voice, Yin Xiaoya dispelled his anger, turning to face the children with a smile. "It's nothing. I saw a nice clothing store when we entered the city. I want to buy a hat."
