Chapter 12: Cake
"Go to the academy!"
After gaining the memories of Liuxing, Liuying began to imagine what it would be like if she had been born on a stable and peaceful planet.
She dreamed of going to the academy, making friends, and finding companions who shared her interests. She also had other wishes: to fall into a deep, restful sleep, to buy cute gadgets with her pocket money, and to become a dessert taster.
As the Iron Cavalry Knight, Firefly IV Strategic Assault Armor—Sam—was seen by others as a weapon against the Swarm.
But to Liuying, Sam was the cradle of her life. She couldn't leave Sam for long; she was destined to fight endlessly like a weapon until she burned out.
But now, things were different. She had been reborn, and the "loss of entropy" no longer affected her—at least for the time being.
She could now live as a free-spirited, experiencing life to the fullest and touching the vibrant world with her own hands.
Though the flaws of being an artificial person remained—such as her inability to dream—they didn't stop her from pursuing a normal life. Going to the academy was something she was genuinely interested in.
Luan Yu saw the answer written on Liuying's face and smiled. "Of course, children have to go to the academy! But Shrek Academy isn't a good fit. Don't worry, your sister will send you to another school—one no worse than Shrek Academy."
"Hmm!" Liuying nodded, her eyes filled with anticipation. Going to the academy! It was something she had never experienced before, but after seeing Liuxing's memories, she was eager to start her own campus life.
Liuxing glanced at Luan Yu. The fact that they couldn't go to Shrek Academy suggested that this "cheap sister" of theirs was hostile to the academy—the alma mater of the previous protagonist.
Could she be from a villainous faction? He didn't care much, though. Looking at Liuying's expectant expression, Liuxing smiled. 'That's fine. You're not a weapon; you deserve your own life, your own hobbies, and your own friends. Sam is a weapon of war, but Liuying, you are not.'
Still, the idea of going to the academy secretly excited Liuxing too. Unlike Liuying, who looked forward to making new friends and enjoying campus life,
Liuxing was eager to learn how to meditate and refine his soul power. As an ordinary person, he had once fantasized about a world with superpowers and magic. He had even gone through a phase of middle-school delusions.
Now, with the opportunity to explore the extraordinary right in front of him, how could he remain indifferent?
Luan Yu noticed the excitement in the eyes of the two youngsters and smiled gently. 'It feels good to raise such adorable kids. My sister will probably like them too—they're so cute.'
With the two in tow, Luan Yu soon arrived at a restaurant. Having spent some time in Dragon City, she was familiar with the more renowned dining spots. As a self-proclaimed foodie, her standards for food were quite high.
The restaurant Luan Yu brought Liuxing and Liuying to was undeniably upscale. A gorgeous chandelier cast a soft glow, illuminating their faces. The lavish decor and high-end furniture exuded an air of elegance. The waiters, dressed in neat uniforms, greeted them with warm smiles.
Liuxing felt the plush carpet beneath his feet, each step as light as walking on clouds. Soft music played in the background, adding a touch of tranquility to the refined atmosphere.
Liuxing couldn't help but marvel inwardly. He had never been to such a luxurious restaurant before. From the outside, Dragon City seemed ancient, and he had assumed the restaurants would resemble old-fashioned inns. But this place was surprisingly modern.
'This world has had 10,000 years to develop, after all. It's just taken a different path.' When he first arrived in Dragon City, Liuxing had thought that after 10,000 years, the world hadn't progressed much and was still similar to how it was in the first part of the story. But now, he realized he had been mistaken.
Liuxing and Liuying followed Luan Yu, their eyes wide with curiosity.
Neither Liuxing nor Liuying had ever been to such a luxurious restaurant before.
While there were undoubtedly more extravagant dining establishments in Liuxing's world, he had never had the means to enter them—simply put, he was poor.
As for Liuying, she was merely a consumable soldier, a warrior. Though she had the ability to eat, she spent most of her time in a cultivation chamber, sustained by nutrient solutions.
The only real food she had ever tasted was a piece of oak cake rolls, which she had eaten by chance. To others, the oak cake rolls were unpalatable, akin to chewing on a block of wood, but Liuying had loved the taste and had always wanted to eat it again.
The waiter led them to a table by the window, overlooking the bustling street outside.
Liuxing and Liuying obediently sat down on the plush leather chairs, their short legs dangling and swaying back and forth. They looked so adorable that even the uniformed waitress couldn't help but glance at them with sparkling eyes.
Humans are visual creatures, after all, and cute things naturally draw attention.
Even at nearby tables, subtle glances were cast in their direction.
Luan Yu smiled knowingly. 'It seems I'm not the only one who thinks that they are cute.'
Though captivated by the children, the waiter didn't neglect his duties. He handed over the menu, and Luan Yu quickly skimmed through it, ordering a few of her favorite dishes before passing the menu to Liuying and Liuxing. "What would you like to eat? Choose your favorites,"
Liuxing gestured for Liuying to order first. Without hesitation, Liuying opened the menu and was greeted by a dazzling array of delicacies, each accompanied by beautiful illustrations that made her mouth water.
Her eyes lit up as she flipped to the dessert section, but then she frowned and asked the waiter, "Do you have oak cake rolls?"
The waiter looked visibly embarrassed at her question. The oak cake roll, despite its fancy name, was essentially bread mixed with wood chips—a cheap food for the poor. A high-end restaurant like this would never serve such a thing.
Liuxing, who understood Liuying's peculiar fondness for oak cake rolls, quickly interjected, "Liuying, let's try something else for now. After we leave, we'll look for oak cake rolls, okay?"
Luan Yu also nodded in agreement. "Little Liuying, after we finish eating here, I'll take you out to buy some oak cake rolls. For now, let's try something else. The cakes here are all delicious."
She gently patted Liuying's head, her eyes filled with sympathy. Luan Yu knew a thing or two about oak cake rolls. Out of curiosity, she had once tried a version made to mimic the taste—though without the sawdust, which was reserved for the truly desperate poor. The experience had left a lasting impression on her; it was so difficult to swallow that it felt like chewing on wood. In her eyes, anyone who could eat that willingly was nothing short of a warrior.
