Chapter 688: Xue'er's Resentment
Seeing the expressions on these people's faces, Li Canghai's lips curled into a playful smile. He knew all too well what they were thinking—their loyalty to him was far from genuine. Revealing Ye Fei's identity now served as a warning.
While the gang leaders were stunned, the old man was also terrified. Although he couldn't speak the language fluently, he understood enough to realize that Ye Fei was about to deal with him.
If Ye Fei were an ordinary person, he wouldn't have been scared, but that move earlier had been too shocking.
"I'm Dick Cain from the Heaven Gang in Great Britain. I'm here as a guest invited by your country. If you dare lay a hand on me, the Heaven Gang won't let you off!" The old man's words sounded tough, but they were a plea for mercy. He slowly backed away, signaling his bodyguards to surround him.
Dick Cain? Ye Fei almost laughed. Why did this guy share a name with the great sage from Diablo?
Although Ye Fei's initial strength had come from that game, he wasn't about to let the old man off because of it. He smiled faintly and said, "The Heaven Gang, huh? I'll be waiting. Come at me if you dare!"
With that, he unleashed his domain, instantly taking out almost all of the old man's bodyguards, leaving only one alive to deliver a message.
As for the old man, Ye Fei didn't kill him immediately. He had noticed the shadow in Liliya's heart, and the only way to free her from it was to let her witness the old man's weakness—or even kill him herself.
Only then could she step onto the true path of a strong warrior?
Watching the people around him die silently, Cain and his remaining bodyguard were on the verge of madness. Their eyes were filled with a strange look as if Ye Fei weren't human but a devil.
"Remember, my name is Ye Fei, from Wanghai, Long Country. If you want revenge, come find me," Ye Fei said coldly to the bodyguard, not caring if they were paralyzed with fear.
Then, with a wave of his hand, he pulled Cain toward him. He raised his voice and addressed the entire audience, "I know you're all from different factions. Go back and tell your people—Ye Fei is in the capital. If you want to deal with me, bring it on!"
After making this bold declaration, Ye Fei jumped off the stage, one arm holding Liliya and the other carrying the unconscious Cain. He had made such a show to draw all the attention to himself, giving the Song family a chance to recover.
Meanwhile, he planned to bring Li Xue'er into the picture to help stabilize the crumbling Song family.
As for the Heaven Gang, he didn't care. Wanghai was now an impenetrable fortress.
Even Long Country people would find it hard to infiltrate, let alone the yellow-haired, white-skinned Brits.
If they didn't know their place, he could turn their entire nation into a dog show, just like he had done with the island country. However, unless a nation was particularly vile, Ye Fei didn't want to resort to such measures.
"Brother Li, I've caused you trouble today. I'll make it up to you with a gift later," Ye Fei said to Li Canghai with a fist salute after stepping off the stage. He knew his reputation in the capital and that some people already hated him to the core. He deliberately acted distant to avoid dragging Li Canghai into his mess.
To his surprise, Li Canghai laughed heartily. "Brother Ye, don't be so formal. Your business is my business. If you keep talking like this, don't blame me for getting mad!"
Ye Fei was baffled. Although they had gotten along well earlier, their relationship had been superficial.
They hadn't discussed cooperation, and Ye Fei hadn't mentioned his relationship with Li Canghai's daughter.
Why was Li Canghai being so friendly?
Little did Ye Fei know, that Li Canghai had already decided that Ye Fei would be his son-in-law and was trying to bring him and his daughter together. Moreover, Li Canghai was confident that Ye Fei, who had stirred up so much in the southeast, wouldn't fall in the capital.
Though confused, Ye Fei wasn't about to reject such goodwill. Besides, he was bound to have a closer relationship with Li Canghai in the future. He stopped being coy and handed the old man over, saying, "Then I'll trouble you to keep this old man locked up for now. I need to take Liliya to treat her injuries. If we delay too long, it'll be harder for her to recover."
Only then did Li Canghai realize that Ye Fei had a way to heal Liliya. No wonder he had gone to such lengths to get her.
If she could grow stronger, she'd be a great asset. However, Li Canghai had no intention of competing for her. After all, what was his would eventually be Ye Fei's.
As for whether his daughter would agree, he didn't even consider it. Even if she resisted at first, Ye Fei's excellence would surely win her over. Unfortunately, Li Canghai didn't know that his poor daughter had already been thoroughly claimed by Ye Fei.
After settling matters, Ye Fei left with Liliya in his arms. He didn't let Li Canghai's people drive him, instead borrowing a car to keep some secrets hidden for now.
He laid Liliya down in the back seat and fed her three recovery pills. Her injuries healed instantly, but the poor girl, perhaps too mentally exhausted, didn't wake up.
Ye Fei didn't disturb her. After starting the car, he drove slowly while pulling out his phone to make a call.
This time, he called Li Xue'er. They hadn't seen each other since that banquet. Li Xue'er had called him once, but at the time, he was in the middle of an intimate moment with Ye Yunqi.
When the call connected, the mischievous girl had deliberately made loud noises, causing Li Xue'er to hang up quickly. Now, calling her, Ye Fei felt a bit awkward.
"Hello?" The call was answered quickly, and Li Xue'er's pleasant voice came through. Though her tone was cold, Ye Fei could sense a hint of excitement.
"Xue'er, it's me," Ye Fei said, knowing exactly why she sounded that way. Feeling awkward, he resorted to a bland opening. In the past, he had been natural with Li Xue'er, even when she overheard his sister's teasing.
But ever since learning about her feelings from Zimao, he found it hard to maintain that ease.
"I know it's you. What do you want?" Li Xue'er's tone remained stiff.
Ye Fei chuckled awkwardly. "Can't I just call to chat?"
"Then why haven't you called before when there was nothing to talk about?" A trace of resentment finally seeped into Li Xue'er's voice.
Ye Fei wisely dropped the topic and asked softly, "Xue'er, have you missed me?"
"What if I have?" Her tone was sharp, but she didn't deny it. Perhaps the pain of longing had worn her down.
"If you miss me, you can call me," Ye Fei said with a smile. "You know my number."
This time, Li Xue'er didn't respond immediately. After a long pause, she said quietly, "I was afraid I'd disturb you again."
The resentment in her voice was gone, replaced by an even deeper sense of melancholy.
