Chapter 145: The Duel (2)
I could feel it as my bones and muscles grew, my skin hardened and scaled over and my antlers grew larger. I watched as Florick did the same. We completed our transformations around the same time.
We both barely fit on the rooftop of the auditorium. Florick's mouth hung open as he saw that I had transformed as well. "How did you do that?" He roared.
I saw an opportunity to strike with his confusion as a distraction, so I immediately went for his throat. He wasn't fast enough to withdraw it, so I chomped down on his neck and began to suck his blood.

He thrashed and tried to pull away from me but my jaws were too strong.

Florick whipped his tail around and surprised me when it struck me in the eye. This caused me to loosen my grip around his throat, and he ripped away from me.
"Because I had sex with your wife," I said in response to his earlier question. Technically that wasn't the real reason, but it felt like a good jab.
Florick grimaced in emotional pain and shook his head. He jumped up and took to the skies, what counted for a sky in this massive cavern. The cavern that held the surrounding city was massive and gave a decent amount of room to fly, but it still wasn't a true sky and it had limitations.
Florick blew incredibly hot fire at me as he flew away. I felt as it burned up my scales. That must have been a result of training his inner fire to grow stronger and hotter. I couldn't believe he could actually damage a dragon with his fire, but he did.

I activated my healing factor and regrew the scales, then launched myself into the air as well. I tried to flap my wings and fly, but I couldn't get the right balance to actually lift myself in the air.
So what happened was I glided across the city, finally landed on the outskirts of the city and destroying a few hopefully abandoned, decrepit buildings as I crashed.
Florick flew after me and dive bombed me with another fire attack. He burnt up my scales again, and I regrew them. This time I concentrated before taking off.
I jumped into the air and flapped my wings evenly, until I gained a decent height and then flared out my wings to dip down and gain some speed. Florick and I crashed into each other in the air.
We continued to fly as we battled. Florick slashed his claws across my face, blinding me, until I grew back my eyes. I figured since I could use blood manipulation in human form, I should be able to use it in dragon form. So I tried.
Blood exploded out of holes in my skin and blood spikes shot out and stabbed Florick multiple times. Florick yelped in pain and flew away from me, this time choosing to go back to the fire attacks.
He did a fairly decent job of keeping me on the run with those attacks, while I came up with a counterattack. I turned around midair and slashed at him with my claws, coming nowhere near his body until I extended them with blood manipulation.
I slashed across his chest, causing deep gouges in the skin and drawing a significant amount of blood. I felt kind of bad for the people below, because to them, the blood would be like a flood.
Florick yelped again and took on a different tactic. He grabbed onto me with his claws and smashed me into the wall. He kept doing that because I wasn't nearly as coordinated as he was in the air.
It was an easy thing for him to take advantage of. "You will pay for your transgressions against me and my wife. After I've defeated you, I will toss your lifeless body in front of her, and take her when she needs consolation from her grief."
"That's manipulative and disgusting! For a while I didn't think you were such a bad guy. Just a coward. Now I see you're actually evil. Regardless, Maven would never fall for something like that." I said, as he smashed me into the wall again.
"What do you think happened to her last husband?" He said.
"Wow. So murder and emotional manipulation? That's your playbook? No wonder she left you." I said. I pushed off against the wall and slammed my head into his.
We careened out of control and crashed into the ground below. I sincerely hoped we didn't hurt anyone, but I didn't have time to look around and confirm.
I felt Florick's tail curl around my throat. It constricted and cut off my airway. What he didn't know, is that as a vampire, I didn't need to breathe. I pushed my back against his chest, pretending a writhe and struggle.
Then when I knew my body was tight against his, a spike of blood burst out of my back, right where I guessed Florick's heart was. At first the blood spike was stopped by his natural armor, but I made the spike turn and spiral, grinding down the armor on his chest.
He tried to release my throat and get away, but it was too late. The spike broke through his armor and annihilated his heart. He went limp after that. I turned around to look at him.
He was laying on the ground looking at me. He opened his mouth and said, "I lied, by the way."
My brow furrowed. "About what?" I said, starting to get concerned.
"About letting Maven go and letting you take over my sect. Now that I have fallen, my men will kill her, and you won't be able to get there in time. You'll just have to watch as they tear her to pieces."
"What the fuck, dude? Seriously, what is wrong with you?" I said, putting my foot against his throat and digging my claws in.
"You fucked my wife!! What did you expect? Kindness?" He said.
I ripped his throat out with my foot and leaped back into the air. "Some common decency would've been nice," I said to no one.

I reached out with my mind to Maven.
'Maven. You gotta get out of there! As soon as they find out Florick lost, they'll kill you!'
'Dylan! Help! They're chasing me!'
