Chapter 10: what are you ?
I teleported into my room and dismissed all my gear, letting it vanish into the shadows. With a tired sigh, I flopped onto the bed and opened the system interface. A smile spread across my face as I saw that the mission for my reputation had been completed. Finally, I thought, this better be worth it. I had exposed myself earlier than I wanted, drawing unnecessary attention and danger my way. But if the rewards were good, it might just balance out the risks.
Sigh.
[Reputation Matters to Vampires]
A vampire without a reputation is a vampire without fear and respect.
[Reward: 1000 Vampire Points]
[Special Reward: ???]
[Reward Claim: [Y/N]]
The 1000 Vampire Points, combined with the 600 I already had, brought my total to 1600. That was great! With this, I could finally afford either the [Sanctum of Night] or the [Door of Ravens]. Both were crucial items if I wanted to continue this line of work. But the real prize was the special reward. That was the reason I had taken on this mission in the first place—the potential for something extraordinary.
But the real prize was the special reward. That was the reason I'd taken on this mission in the first place. I clasped my hands together, closing my eyes for a moment. Please, Gacha Lord, have mercy on this poor soul. Give me something good. With a deep breath, I clicked Yes.
What the heck is that? I thought, staring at the hulking monster that had materialized in front of me. It had the shape of a humanoid but with a deer-like skull for a head. Its body was covered in thick black fur, and it had two small, almost comically undersized arms. The creature knelt before me, its eerie presence filling the room.
I stood up straight, circling it two or three times, examining it closely. "So... what are you?" I asked hesitantly, unsure if this was some kind of Wendigo or something entirely different.
"I am your servant, my lord," it replied. Its voice was neither male nor female, and strangely, its deer-like skull didn't move as the words came out. It was as if the voice emanated from somewhere deep within it.
"You say you're my servant. Tell me, what can you do?" I asked, reaching out to touch its skull-like head. As I did, I summoned my vampire gear, the familiar weight of it settling around me. In an instant, both the creature and I teleported to the side of a lake. This place should do for now, I thought, removing my hand from the creature's head.
The monster—or whatever it was—simply stared at me with empty sockets where its eyes should have been. I motioned for it to rise. "Now, show me what you can do."
Its gaze met mine, and then, slowly, its body began to change. Gone was the humanoid figure the size of a man. In its place stood a towering 20-foot monster. Its black fur now covered a massive, muscular frame, and its once-small arms had transformed into enormous, clawed limbs capable of tearing a car in two with a single slash.
A smile spread across my face as I realized the potential of this creature. With this monster by my side, I could be unstoppable.
"Is this all you can do?" I asked, my voice tinged with deep curiosity and a hint of disappointment.
"Yes, my lord," it replied, its eerie voice echoing again. Strangely, its mouth didn't move to produce the sound, as if the words were coming from somewhere deep within its hollow skull.
But that wasn't the source of my frustration. The real issue was the crushing disappointment I felt. Its only ability seemed to be growing larger and destroying things. I brought my right hand to my forehead, massaging my temples as I tried to process this letdown. Why did I expect so much? I thought, sighing deeply.
"Damn, you're useless," I muttered, glaring at the monster. It didn't react, though. It just stood there, staring at me with those dark, empty sockets where its eyes should have been. It tilted its head slightly, as if trying to understand my frustration but failing to grasp it entirely.
"I need to see if you can grow stronger if I feed you blood or not. And I'll have to give you a name too," I said, thinking aloud. "For now, I have to go. Can you hide yourself?"
The monster processed my words for a moment, then slowly began to shrink and transform. In a few seconds, it had turned into a small doll. I picked it up, examining it briefly before teleporting back to my room.
Today was a major disappointment, I thought, placing the doll under the bed . The excitement I'd felt earlier had completely evaporated, replaced by frustration. I'd hoped for something extraordinary, but all I got was a giant, destructive creature with no real depth or versatility. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to this monster than met the eye. Maybe, with time and experimentation, it could become something truly powerful.
