Chapter 1276: Waking Up
-----
With the death of Psychomind, the invasion was stopped. Blake and his Vampire Spirits rushed to help everyone else, bringing back all those that survived to the mothership, while eliminating any Xenoid that survived. Blake made sure to absolutely destroy them, swinging his massive drill and immediately disintegrating them as he rushed through the cosmos, resembling a comet of rainbow flames.
The view itself was awe-inspiring and made many of the pilots once more amazed and shocked by Blake's incredible performance and the power of his robot and abilities, which had received a tremendous boost after so long.
The power of his awakened Grimoire was a large part of his victory; however, it wasn't as if his two new abilities didn't do a lot of the job either, their power was significant and incredible.
Nonetheless, although they won, the victory didn't come without casualties, there were several pilots that didn't made it and died through the battle, several of them because of the brainwashing Psychomind had exerted over everyone.
However, despite the loses, they were still greeted as heroes, with people celebrating everywhere and so on. As usual, Blake ignored most of this, as he quickly went to check on the pilots, especially on Patrick, Hermes, and Emilia.
Apparently, they had all unleashed the second ability he granted them, which gave them tremendous new powers and even transformations.
Emilia had even said there was a dragon speaking to her called Bestellen whenever she transformed using that ability, although the moment she deactivated it and reverted back to normal, he was gone.
"Bestellen you say?" Blake was surprised. "Huh…"
He was really surprised he was able to somehow infiltrate into the trial as well through the usage of that ability, it meant that the ability he granted to Emilia was most likely still connected to his soul, or perhaps made out of it.
"Do you know that dragon? Who was he?" Emilia wondered.
"A digital spirit," Blake said. "Think of them as special programs."
"Oh! So that was it!" Emilia nodded, convinced something she had already guessed would be this way.
Of course, Blake was lying, Bestellen was a real dragon soul and everything, a dragon from his world, away from whatever this Trial truly was.
"Hermes, Emilia, do you feel fine after transforming?" Blake wondered. "I know it was tiring and everything…"
"We're fine," Hermes said.
"We're mostly worried about Patrick…" Emilia sighed.
"…I know."
Blake, Emilia, Hermes, and some of Blake's Vampire Spirits possessing Androids walked by his side, reaching a containment area where Patrick was located.
Unlike the two, he was unable to turn off his ability and had been locked in a state where his body and mech had merged into a monster made of bones.
He was dragged back after they found him unconscious, but still with life signals. The containment zone was greatly guarded with active soldiers piloting machine warriors, so it was of high security.
Of course, Blake was allowed to enter without problems thanks to the endless favors of the Elders towards him, which gave him the position of Supreme Commander, capable of entering anywhere he wanted by showing his ID.
Not even the most secret of areas in the mothership were hidden from his eyes!
"Supreme Commander Blake, we are glad to see you here."
"You're our hero."
"Please come in."
Three soldiers greeted him, as Blake nodded without saying a word and entered alongside everyone he brought with him, which he was also allowed to do so.
Once he walked downstairs through several floors, he reached the deepest area of the containment zone, a huge cube made of the hardest of transparent materials was located there, alongside a giant made of black metallic bones resting inside of it.
"Oho! You must be the legendary hero of our fleet, the strongest pilot, Supreme Commander Blake!"
Blake was greeted by an old man, looking around his seventies or eighties, wearing a white lab coat, and with a face full of wrinkles, alongside a balding head.
He looked small and cranky, but he was rather passionate if not insane looking, the moment he saw Blake he instantly asked him something… disturbing.
"I've been intrigued this entire time! Would you allow me to open up your body for a bit and see what's inside?!"
"What?"
Blake was left speechless they allowed a lunatic like him to be a professor and doctor of the containment zone.
"D-Doctor Hazma, please don't say such things to the Supreme Commander!"
Suddenly, Blake noticed a familiar voice and face, Henriette had arrived, walking towards Blake and company, she had a pleased smile the moment she saw Blake.
"Ah, my niece… But I was just joking! Don't take it too seriously, girl."
"Niece?" Blake wondered. "You're related?"
"Y-Yeah…" Henriette sighed, disappointed of her weird grandfather. "Please don't mind half the things he says, he's a bit crazy. Honestly at his age he should just retire and wait until we go to a new planet! He's lucky he has lived this far without even undergoing cryogenic sleep once."
"Hohoh, well I just like living my best life!" laughed Doctor Hazma. "Now, I could guess why you came here yes? For our good ol' bony friend over there. His name was Patrick right? Two year old Pilot. Genetically engineered. Pilots are kind of like us humans, but their metabolism and learning speed has increased a hundred times. Hence why you grow up in a year and also you can't live longer than twenty at most. You remain youthful through most of your life but in the last three years you'll deteriorate quickly until you die."
"G-Grandpa!" Henriette reprimanded her father again. "You don't have to say that about our brave pilots!"
"I was just informing him of something that not many know," explained Hazma. "Most pilots if not all of them die in battle. It is mostly thanks to him that they'll get to live their two decades of life and slowly discover how little they actually live… It is good to know how far you can go right?"
"I-I had no idea I would live so little…" Hermes muttered.
"No way…" Emilia was also a bit traumatized.
"I don't really care," Blake said. "Patrick, is he alive?"
"Yes he is! Barely! I've been studying him since he came here for a few hours now…" Hazma said, leading them to his laboratory next door. "And let me tell you, I've discovered many fascinating things about his constitution."
