Chapter 27: “The Proving Ground”
"I will find her," Kyro thought to himself, "and prove how strong I've become."
My eyes lit up, brighter than usual. A smile crept across my face, and I felt an unshakable determination growing inside me. "I will succeed," I whispered to myself. "No one will stop me. No matter what stands in my way."
Kyro let his gaze sweep across the hall, taking in the other recruits. Some of them he vaguely recognized but had never really spoken to. Others were complete strangers. He wondered about the people who had gathered in this room. Beasts, he thought. Real monsters.
Rioji, who was standing beside him, noticed his uncertainty and spoke. "This time, we have exceptionally talented recruits," Rioji said, his gaze carrying a hint of respect. Then he turned and walked over to join the other division commanders.
The tension in the room was palpable. Everyone seemed composed, but the nervous energy was impossible to miss. The murmurs and whispers of the gathered recruits filled the air. Eyes met, words were exchanged. Kyro spotted Ezryel, the one who trained with Echo. A genius, or so they said. And over there—those two. They used to be called the prodigies of the alley before they were split into different divisions. Alley monsters with the reputation of being an unbeatable duo.
Suddenly, a hissing sound cut through the chatter. The room darkened, and an uneasy silence spread like wildfire. All heads turned in the same direction. This was the moment everyone had been waiting for. Shade had arrived.
With steady, unshakable steps, he entered the center of the hall, his presence instantly commanding attention. When he spoke, his voice echoed through the room, vibrating in the air around them.
