Versatile Mage: Starting with the White Tiger Pendant

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Battle Against the Flood Monsters

Lu Jun understood that with the significance of Magic City, any level of invasion must be defended at all costs.

If the situation deteriorates, a super mage will inevitably intervene, leaving no doubt about their safety.

Meanwhile, over in Jinling, a group of super mages had already been organized to lay a trap for the Flood Monster Monorach. They were stretched too thin to assist for the time being.

Tang Yue wasted no words, leading the elite hunters to a dam of a reservoir. In the intertwining wind and rain under the gloomy weather, the reservoir surged with waves, and the dam shook continuously.

The water's surface was pitch black, but upon closer inspection, it wasn't just black—it was teeming with the shadows of massive crocodiles. These were the Huangpu Crocodile Monsters, a species with several Commander-level leaders entrenched nearby.

The government had considered eliminating them, but since the Huangpu River connects to the Yangtze River system, the monsters were endless. Clearing one batch only made way for new species to migrate in.

Rather than allowing a stronger species to take over, it was better to leave the weaker ones behind since they were easier to manage.

Using monsters to control monsters and maintaining ecological balance had always been the military's philosophy.

As of now, the primary lineage of the Crocodile Monsters was in the Yangtze River. It was said to be ruled by a Flood Monster Monarch that had refined its bloodline to the peak, a Sub-Dragon Monarch and the mastermind behind the current chaos.

The Huangpu Crocodile Monsters had been incited and were launching an invasion but were blocked by layers of water gates and dams, preventing them from easily entering the city.

The crocodile monsters on the lake looked dragon-like in form, their tails covered in steel-like spikes, their skins thicker than reinforced steel plates. Even Servant-level monsters were eight to nine meters long.

The Warrior-level ones, however, reached over ten meters, resembling small flood dragons. Their numbers were astounding: one Warrior for every ten Servants. The densely packed horde covering the lake's surface rendered the water almost invisible, their cold, dark scales overlapping like layers of armor.

Moreover, water-based monsters were generally two to three times stronger than land-based ones, making this assault particularly troublesome.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The towering dam trembled violently. Even with its magically reinforced structure, cracks appeared on its surface under the repeated heavy impacts, scattering debris everywhere.

A squad of over ten military mages stood on the dam, using various spells to bombard the crocodile horde. Yet, they couldn't stop the surging tide of monsters. Their attacks disappeared into the Blackscale Tides, insignificant amidst the chaos. They also had to dodge the high-pressure water jets spat out by the crocodile monsters.

The leading military mage, exhausted, saw Tang Yue and exclaimed, "You're here! Quickly block the dam! We can't let them break through. If they scatter into the city's sewer systems or the streams in the villages, it'll be a nightmare to deal with."

Tang Yue frowned as she stood on the constantly shaking dam, barely able to keep her footing.

The dozens of hunters who arrived inhaled sharply at the sight of the lake. "There must be at least a thousand crocodile monsters here!"

A mid-level soldier added, "They're clever. Whenever we start drawing our Nebula, they dive underwater, rendering most of our magic ineffective."

Hearing this, Tang Yue turned and began issuing commands. "Water mages, gather here! Your job is to control the waves. When the crocodile horde dives, use violent currents to force them back up."

Lu Jun stepped forward without hesitation, obeying the command. Gradually, over twenty others stepped out as well, either specializing or dual-practicing in the Water Element. Otherwise, they wouldn't have volunteered for this mission against the Flood Monsters.

Looking down at the roaring crocodile horde, Lu Jun felt exhilarated. The lazy campus life didn't suit him—hunting monsters was where he belonged.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The next moment, Lu Jun depicted his Star Nebula. A dazzling blue radiance lit up the sky, and a 30-meter-wide river of water roared down from the dam like a waterfall.

Simultaneously, over twenty Water Mages unleashed their magic. Twenty torrents merged, forming a grand tidal wave that fell like the Qiantang River's tidal bore, each wave more immense than the last. The skies darkened as water vapor filled the air.

The entire Songjiang estuary resonated with the roaring of water. The lake's surface rose and fell chaotically, as millions of tons of water surged with immense power.

"Spirit Seed?!" The military mage leader glanced at Lu Jun in astonishment. Among the group, his torrent stood out the most, even overshadowing the collective force of the others.

As human magic descended upon them, the cunning and brutal crocodile monsters attempted their old trick of diving underwater. However, this time, things were different. To their horror, the water—once their ally—had turned against them.

The turbulent currents lifted them high into the air. The smaller ones were dragged to the lake's bottom by the overwhelming force, their internal organs crushed under the intense pressure.

Splash!

Water Element mages excelled in aquatic combat. If magic exerted one unit of power, water amplified it tenfold. The more mages there were, the greater the momentum.

The lake boiled as if alive. Towering waves, over ten meters high, lifted the massive crocodile monsters, flipping them belly-up with no room to resist.

Tang Yue shouted, "Wind, Ice, and Lightning Mages, cast your spells!"

Immediately, the remaining twenty-plus mages completed their Nebula. Tornadoes rose, lifting massive volumes of water. Ice chains stretched across the air, binding the crocodile monsters and smashing them onto the dam.

By then, the dam had already been reinforced by Earth Mages. Lu Mei, upon arriving, had wasted no time in summoning her Star Constellation. Having acquired dual Spirit Seeds for Wind and Earth, she hadn't fought a serious battle in some time, and her hands were itching for action.

Hum!

The Earth spell Rock Barrier :Stone Ridges, boosted by her 2.5x Earth Spirit Seed, fortified the dam's surface with a layer of golden radiance. It gleamed with a crystalline sturdiness and a profound, weighty aura.

One by one, the massive crocodile monsters were thrown into the air by the tornadoes and waves, only to be struck by ice and lightning, then slammed onto the dam with triple the gravity. They were crushed into pulp, thoroughly dead.

Tang Yue didn't intervene; her Fire Element wasn't suited for aquatic combat and could hinder her companions. Witnessing this scene, she was stunned. It had been six months since Bo City, and she hadn't fought alongside Lu Mei in a while. The latter had even acquired Spirit Seeds.

Noticing her gaze, Lu Mei pointed at Lu Jun and laughed, "My little brother helped me find them."

The one exchanged for Flame Rose? Tang Yue understood and recalled the hotel incident, her charming face turning slightly red as she glanced at Lu Jun with a hint of envy.

Lu Jun, clueless, continued channeling his magic. Why was everyone staring at him when so many others were around?

Regardless, the arrival of the elite hunters turned the tide of the battle. Over 300 crocodile monsters were killed, including 200 drowned or crushed by the torrential lake currents.

The Water Element's efficiency in killing was unmatched.

Lu Jun pushed all other thoughts aside, his gaze fixed on the lake. Over 200 fragmented souls ascended, the blue glimmers merging into the White Tiger Pendant on his chest.

The small white tiger vibrated with joy, eagerly devouring the long-awaited soul fragments.
