Chapter 20 - AKIRA (4)
“Okay, so no backing out in the middle, right?”
“Of course not.”
Iris nodded without hesitation in response to my words.
A spontaneous shooting bet I proposed after entering the shooting range.
From .38 Special to .357 Magnum, we shoot one magazine of each caliber and combine the results. The loser grants one wish for the winner.
Although it was clearly an ordinary bet with nothing special, a strange tension hung in the air between me and Iris.
I had suggested the bet just thinking it would be fun, but Iris seemed to have genuinely caught the competitive spirit, stretching her hands even though she hadn’t even held a gun yet.
Is she like this because she’s tempted by the promise of having a wish granted?
What kind of wish could it be?
Given Iris’s personality, I don’t think she’d ask me to give her my body or anything.
The Iris I know isn’t that kind of bad person.
Then what on earth could she be wishing for?
“Hmm…”
I pondered deeply as it felt ominous somehow, but my head couldn’t come up with an answer until the range staff guided us to the shooting lane.
“We’ll start with the .38 caliber M10.”
“…Does this thing actually fire?”
“It’s an old gun, but quite a few places still use it as active service, you know? Well, I’m not sure about the condition of this one though.”
I said with a smile, looking at the 5 rounds of .38 Special loaded in the cylinder, and Iris looked skeptically at the old revolver but soon shrugged her shoulders.
The intention was to just try shooting it first.
“I’ll shoot first. Is that okay?”
“Of course. But you’re not allowed to use your ‘eyes’.”
“Obviously. Why would I make a bet if I was going to do that?”
After grumbling lightly at Iris, who reminded me of the bet rules by mentioning my eyes, I aimed the muzzle at the target on the other side of the lane.
To avoid injuring my fingers from the gas ejected from the cylinder when firing, I firmly fixed the gun in my hand by crossing my left thumb over my right thumb.
I held my breath for a moment, focused on the front sight, and aimed at the center of the target.
The moment I pulled the trigger, feeling the regular beating of my heart.
Bang-!
A recoil that strikes as if someone hit hard.
A sharp explosion that pierces the eardrum even with earplugs on.
“Hehehe…”
I chuckled softly at the familiar sensation I hadn’t felt in a very long time and checked the target.
A hole was punctured slightly above the center of the target I was aiming for.
It wasn’t bad accuracy for an old revolver.
Bang-!
Bang-!
Bang-!
After calmly putting the remaining rounds into the target, I put the gun down and stepped back.
Taking off my earplugs and turning my head, I saw the staff looking at me with wide eyes as if surprised, and Iris with a tense expression.
“Why are you so frozen?”
“…”
Now it’s time to check the results.
As the target is pulled towards the front of the lane along the wire, I see four holes neatly clustered in the center of the target and the hole from the first shot slightly off from them.
Satisfied with the result, I smiled broadly and patted Iris’s shoulder.
“Okay, 49 points. Iris, fighting!”
“Is this possible with such an old revolver…?”
“It’s in better condition than it looks after shooting it. No need to worry.”
“Haah…”
Iris, who stood in the lane sighing as if nervous, lightly stretched her hands while waiting for the staff to replace the target.
Could Iris surpass my score?
Bang-!
Bang-!
Bang-!
After five gunshots rang out, the target was pulled to the front of the lane.
“…”
“Oh my.”
Unfortunately, only three holes remained in the center of the target.
Of the other two, one was slightly above the center of the target, and the other was slightly below.
Iris had a sour expression, seemingly unsatisfied with the result.
I playfully poked her side with a mischievous smile to tease her.
“Total score is 48 points. Not bad for a 1-point difference, right?”
“…Let’s move on to the next gun.”
Oh.
Is she really upset?
I couldn’t help but be taken aback by her appearance, asking the staff for a 9mm Glock 17 with a stiff face.
I didn’t know she would take the bet this seriously.
.
.
.
.
.
“Ahaha…”
“…”
The result of the spontaneous bet Sunghyun had proposed was devastating.
His scores were 49 points, 170 points, 90 points.
Total score: 309 points.
Iris’s scores were 48 points, 170 points, 89 points.
Total score: 307 points.
Iris, who lost the precious wish right by a mere 2-point difference, froze on the spot and couldn’t say a word until she was led by Sunghyun’s hand to sit in a nearby cafe, half out of her mind.
Seeing her look as if she had lost all will to live, Sunghyun awkwardly smiled and handed her a coffee cup, and only then did she grasp her sanity and accept the cup.
“I didn’t know you had such a strong competitive spirit…”
“…”
It’s not about the competitive spirit, it’s about the reward.
Iris swallowed those words she wanted to say and moistened her throat with coffee.
She had no way of knowing whether the bitterness in her mouth was from the coffee or from the sense of defeat of losing a precious opportunity right in front of her.
She wanted to beg Sunghyun for one more chance, but it was already over.
Throwing away all hope, Iris painfully opened her mouth.
“…The wish.”
“Hm?”
“Please tell me your wish. You won the bet, so you have to tell me your wish.”
“Ah, I forgot about that.”
At Iris’s dejected voice, Sunghyun scratched the back of his head as if he just remembered and started pondering.
A wish.
Having made a bet to grant a wish without actually thinking about his own wish, he started racking his brain hard.
What could he ask of Iris?
He wasn’t particularly interested in anything financial.
He had bought enough clothes during today’s shopping, eaten delicious food, and made pleasant memories.
…Memories?
“Ah!”
“…?”
As Sunghyun’s eyes sparkled as if he had thought of something, Iris looked at him with a quizzical gaze.
What could the man she loved want from her?
Luxury goods?
Sparkling jewels?
Iris, overwhelmed with despair at having lost her chance, was prepared to grant whatever request Sunghyun made and wasn’t expecting anything in particular.
“Iris, go out and play with me again next time!”
“…Pardon?”
Until something unexpected came out of his mouth.
“Did I hear that wrong?”
“My wish! It’s for you to go out and play with me again next time!”
“…Is that all?”
Such a modest and simple wish.
Iris, thinking there was no way he would use such a precious wish right won by a mere 2-point difference like that, doubted her ears and asked again, but,
“Yeah, why?”
Sunghyun just nodded with an innocent smile and,
“…!”
Thump-
Iris felt her heart sink.
To think such a man could exist in this world.
To think such a lovable man could exist.
Thump-
Thump-
Her heart beats rapidly to the point of pain, and blood rushes to Iris’s face.
“Haa… Haa…”
With each excited breath, a sticky heat rises from deep within her chest.
“Iris?”
“Y-Yes?”
“Are you okay? Your face is really red.”
“It’s nothing!”
What a terrible man he was.
To show such a kind face in front of a woman who was so desperate and fidgeting right before his eyes.
Not even tempting her to break the string of reason and give in to instinct.
How could I not fall in love with him like this?
“Phew…”
Iris hurriedly gulped down her coffee to bring back her mind that was about to flip its switch, but her heated body wouldn’t calm down easily.
“Iris, if you’re not feeling well, just say so. You look really bad right now.”
“I’m… I’m fine. Really.”
Iris shook her head, barely suppressing the urge to be nursed by Sunghyun, who was looking at her with concern.
She couldn’t lose his trust by being consumed by mere lewd sexual desire.
“Fine my ass. You’re burning up like this.”
“…!!!”
That was her intention until Sunghyun’s hand came across the table and touched her forehead.
Their breaths mingle as their faces draw closer.
Sunghyun’s warm body temperature is transmitted through his hand.
Her gaze entangles with the red eyes that have come right in front of her.
Snap-
“…Leader.”
“Hm?”
Iris felt the string of her reason snap.
“…Follow me.”
“Uh… Suddenly? What’s wrong?”
“Follow me.”
“…?”
Sunghyun looks at her with round eyes, surprised by her unfamiliar appearance growling lowly, but to Iris’s eyes that have already flipped their switch, even that was just an element stimulating her sadistic tendencies.
Grab-
“Uh, huh?”
“Forget about the dishes, just follow me quickly.”
“Iris, wait a moment…!”
Unable to wait any longer, she grabbed Sunghyun’s wrist and pulled roughly.
The surprised Sunghyun tries to resist by pulling his body back, but this is a gender-reversed world.
It was impossible for a man with relatively less strength compared to women to overcome a woman in a highly excited state.
“…Stop right there.”
“…?”
“Huh?”
But between women, it’s a different story.
“It’s been a while, Leader.”
A woman in black who suddenly appeared and blocked Iris’s path.
“…And gloomy pervert girl.”
Arisugawa Akira had intruded on the scene.
